    Show notes

In 1972, director Perry Henzell released the film “The Harder They Come.” Its story revolves around a rural Jamaican musician who journeys to the city of Kingston in search of fame and fortune. Ivan, the central character is played by a young Jimmy Cliff. The film was an immediate hit in Jamaica and eventually the US via midnight shows, running weeks and sometimes years in some cities.

Reggae historian Roger Steffens joins us to talk about this highly influential film, which turns fifty next year! We’ll also discuss the soundtrack that features Cliff, Toots and The Maytals, Desmond Decker and many others, and would virtually establish reggae music outside of Jamaica. Join us!

Performance Anxiety: Livio Ercoli (Round Eye) Jul 21, 2021
    Show notes

This is a Performance Anxiety Podcast first. We welcome Livio Ercoli of the punk band Round Eye. Round Eye is based in Shanghai China. But the band is not Chinese. It’s full of ex-pats. Livio talks about how he got to China from Italy and how he started playing music there. He talks about how things are changing there and not for the better. Livio tells a story about having a meeting with the Minister of Culture about shutting down their tour while reviewing screen shots of band members’ phones and threatening to deport everyone...but doing the tour anyway in the most underground, punk move ever! The new album is a wild one and was produced by Mike Watt (from Pedro). This is a great episode and I know I learned a lot! Follow Round Eye on Facebook and Instagram. Pick up the new album, Culture Shock Treatment on Paper and Plastick Records. Follow us @PerformanceAnx on the socials. Coffee is happily accepted at ko-fi.com/performanceanxiety. Cool stuff like shirts, mugs, shower curtains and onesies are available at performanceanx.threadless.com. Now let’s take a trip to Shanghai with Livio Ercoli and Round Eye on Performance Anxiety on the Pantheon Podcast Network.

Goldmine: The Beatles 100 - One Hundred Pivotal Moments in Beatles History Jul 20, 2021
    Show notes

Longtime Goldmine contributor John M. Borack speaks to Goldmine editor Patrick Prince about his latest Beatles book, The Beatles 100: One Hundred Pivotal Moments in Beatles History. There were many pivotal moments in Beatles history and two examples that were brought up in this Goldmine Podcast episode were the transition from the rough 'n' tumble rock band to Brian Epstein's polished "suit image" and, of course, the Paul Is Dead controversy. It all makes for a great listen!

Decibel Geek 451: Koncert Memories Jul 20, 2021
    Show notes

We're back this week to talk about memories of KISS live with Koncert Memories! We know many of you have seen KISS live going all the way back to the glory days of the 70's. However, Aaron and Chris didn't get started until the early 90's. This makes for an interesting discussion as we got into the band at a commercial low-point and got to witness the resurrection of their popularity with the reunion tour in 1996 and all the strange twists and turns that lead us to today.

Tours discussed this week include the Hot in the Shade tour, Revenge tour, Bad Boys of KISS tour, Alive Worldwide 96-97 tour, Psycho Circus tour, Farewell tour, World Domination tour, Rock the Nation tour, Alive 35 tour, and End of the Road tour. Additionally, we discuss some Ace Frehley solo shows and notable one-off performances including KISS playing on a floating stage in Nashville in 1994 and the Vinnie Vincent acoustic performance at the 2018 Atlanta KISS Expo. There's a bunch of fun and interesting stories in this episode.

We hope you enjoy our Koncert Memories and SHARE with a friend!
