Russ reflects on this being the Neil's first project after the passing of Ben Keith and LA Johnson. Mike very much prefers this version of hitchhiker. The Band: A History - The Last Waltz: Part Two Oct 06, 2021
    Show notes

Backstage The Band were a mix of emotions. Robertson recalls an “anxious but ready” Scorsese, and that each member of the Band was calm and collected.

At around nine the The Berkeley Promenade Orchestra left stage and the house lights slowly dimmed. A large curtain of shimmering confetti lit from all sides was let down in front of the stage, chandeliers were then lowered to a position above the stage, increasing in glow as they descended.

Suddenly, in the darkness, a spotlight erupted on Levon Helm, who kicked things off at 9:07. "Good evening..."

Produced, hosted and edited by Tyrell William Lisson. Additional writing and research by Oscar Ashley.

Performance Anxiety: Troy Murrah (Restavrant) Oct 06, 2021
    Show notes

One of the benefits of doing this podcast is being introduced to new bands by my guests. Early on I had Leah Shapiro & Peter Hayes from Black Rebel Motorcycle Club on the show. After the show they both said I had to have the guys from a band called Restavrant on. Well, it took a little while but we finally made it happen. Troy Murrah from Restavrant is my guest. He got started playing music a little later than most. He ruined his chances at guitar lessons by skipping piano lessons as a kid, but he got a chance later on after a relationship ended. He taught himself slide guitar by watching as many tapes and DVDs of his favorite blues guitarists as he could find. He started playing out and chose the name Restavrant as kind of a joke and now he’s stuck with it. His sense of humor rears its head all over the place, like using typos on albums on purpose.

In addition to his music, Troy also creates quilt-based wooden works of art. He started the project as a memorial for his mother and it’s grown so much that he was asked to write a book about it. Check out restavrant.com, they’re pretty easy to find on social media, too. Their high energy dirty blues rock is definitely worth checking out. You can also check out social media @PerformanceAnx. You can help support the show at ko-fi.com/performanceanxiety. Merch is at performanceanx.threadless.com. And check out the other great shows on the Pantheon Podcast Network. There’s absolutely something for everyone. Now I hope I’ve worked up your appetite for Troy Murrah of Restavrant on Performance Anxiety ,part of the Pantheon Podcast Network.

    The Devil's Music 36: Jane Wiedlin Oct 06, 2021
    Show notes

Rock’n’Roll Goddess Jane Wiedlin probably doesn’t need an introduction, but... here it is anyway. She’s a founding member of The Go-Go’s, a prolific songwriter and mistress of catchy pop tunes. Just some of her several hits include The Go-Go’s “Our Lips Are sealed” and her solo work: “Blue Kiss”, “Rush Hour” “Tangled” and “But For The Grace of God” by Keith urban, which went to number one. Among others, she’s collaborated with Sparks and more recently, Italian musician Pietro Straccia on Ellectrodomestico. She’s also actor and voiceover artist – you may have heard Jane on several cartoons and not realized it was her! In this episode, Jane and lifelong bestie hostess Pleasant Gehman chat about everything from the late 1970’s punk scene to the early 1980’s rockabilly craze to 1990’s and early 2000’s debauchery Los Angeles style. In addition, they spill the beans on the three feature films they’ve been in together, including the noir women-in-prison film “Stuck” and The Go-Go’s documentary. Also; Jane’s Hawaiian farm and her army of crazy pigmy barnyard animals, kooky touring stories and much more.

Is It Rolling, Bob? Talking Dylan: Michael Scott Moore Oct 05, 2021
    Show notes

While held captive for 32 months by Somali pirates, writer and Dylan fan Michael Scott Moore had plenty of opportunity to contemplate lyrics, especially All Along The Watchtower. He was given a Bible during his captivity and discovered, in Isaiah, “the ramparts, the princes, the two horsemen and the wildcat. The whole song clicked! It’s about the fall of Babylon! Or Western Capitalism. Or the music business.” His other favourite captivity song was Jokerman (“freedom just around the corner for you”).

We delve into the mysterious Infidels album in detail (“is he accusing the audience or himself with that title? I never got the sense that he left himself out of the equation”). Other topics covered: Dick Dale, Charlie McCoy, Bobbie Gentry, surfing in the Gaza Strip and the philosophy of Richard Mitchell. Don’t miss our most wide-ranging episode so far.

Michael Scott Moore is an award-winning journalist and novelist, author of a comic novel about L.A., Too Much of Nothing, as well as a travel book about surfing, Sweetness and Blood, which was named a best book of 2010 by The Economist. He’s been a visiting professor at the Columbia School of the Arts and worked for several years as an editor and writer at Spiegel Online in Berlin. Michael was kidnapped in early 2012 on a reporting trip to Somalia and held hostage. The Desert and the Sea, his memoir about that ordeal, became an international bestseller.
