Tunes & Tumblers: Movie Night - Woodstock 99: Peace, Love, and Rage Oct 13, 2021
    Show notes

Movie Night is a cinematic journey into our favorite music films and concert documentaries. Download the pod, stream the movie, and sync up to our winning commentary. It's like we're all hanging out again.

It's been called one of the greatest disasters in live music history, and not just because Kid Rock was on the bill. This week, we revive our Movie Night format (previously known as QuaranTunes & Tumblers) to return to July 1999 and the infamous disaster that was Woodstock 99. The HBO documentary Woodstock 99: Peace, Love and Rage covers the travesty in harrowing detail, unfolding over three blazing hot days and nights of nonstop performances and heaving mosh pits. Though the festival purported to echo the counterculture idealism of the 1969 original instead devolves into riots, looting and sexual assaults. How much do the filmmakers get right? Who are the Umbilical Brothers? And are Trader Joe's knock-off Takis as good as the original. Watch and tune in to find out.

CW: Frank discussions of violence, sexual assault, racism, victim blaming, and death

Dave Mason is a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee with his band Traffic, but there's so much more to his story! As well as a successful solo career in America, Dave also played and recorded with legends like The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Michael Jackson, Fleetwood Mac and his good friend, Jimi Hendrix!

It's an incredible career for a man born in rural Worcestershire who's lived in Hawaii since the 70s. Hear some of his stories in this star studded interview. Plus find out what my favourite 5 Traffic songs are.
