Ditty TV: Warren Haynes Dec 07, 2021
    Show notes

Welcome to Insights, everyone. Today, our guest is the Grammy-winning and often emulated musician Warren Haynes, a truly gifted guitar player, singer-songwriter, record producer and bandleader who’s worked with some of the most notable acts of our time, including The Allman Brothers Band, The Dave Matthews Band, Blues Traveler, Garth Brooks, Marcus King, and the list goes on. And let’s not forget the band that he co-founded back in 1994, always a festival favorite, Gov’t Mule. Oh, and there’s his work with members of the Grateful Dead, including touring with Phil Lesh and Friends and the Dead. Yeah, the man stays busy.

He’s charismatic, he’s original, driven, visionary, and just the right type of rebellious. He’s a mentor to many and it’s a great day when you get to connect with him and hear his thoughts on the world. So, without further ado, please welcome, Warren Haynes.

The Real Me: Christina Best Dec 06, 2021
    Show notes

The Real Me follows the stories of young songwriters and performers with cancer who found hope, healing and connection through music.

Presented by Teen Cancer America, the national non-profit founded by rock icons Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend of The Who, “The Real Me” highlights the moving experiences of cancer patients in TCA’s Play It Back program, which matches them with music professionals to write, perform and record fully produced studio versions of their original songs.

    In this show...Christina Best!

Play It Back artist, Christina Best, is an educator and artist from rural North Carolina. She has always been a creative person, known to pop lock, sing/beat-box in a group, or photograph as a side hustle, but her experience as a cancer survivor pushed her to honor her creative talents more intentionally. She loves music, with R&B, Neo-Soul, and Hip Hop holding special places in her heart. She’s so excited to join the Play It Back family, and looks forward to continuing her artistry.

Imbalanced History Of Rock And Roll: Redux: The Night John Lennon Died Dec 06, 2021
    Show notes

This week, we present an encore episode from last year because sometimes it doesn't get any better than that.

40 years ("now 41...") after he was taken from us, John Lennon's murder still hurts those of us who "remember where we were." A few years ago, Ray did a short story telling of his experience surrounding December 8, 1980. It's been one of our blog's most popular pages. This week, we discuss, and we remember...

This special presentation includes a song that has always served to lift spirits disheartened by this dark anniversary. Happy Imbalanced Xmas...

Listen to this cool episode, and then get caught up here!!!

Performance Anxiety: John San Juan (Hushdrops) Dec 05, 2021
    Show notes

John San Juan is our guest. He’s the guitarist for Hushdrops. The band was preparing their third album when they suffered the unexpected passing of their drummer, Joe Camarillo. John talks about how he spent the next few months drinking, until one day he decided the best tribute to Joe would be to finish the album. It’s a really great story of how they were able to use drum tracks by Joe to finish the album. But we start off talking about his childhood obsession with music. He was playing heavy metal covers when he realized he wanted to play like Neil Young. And that’s how the Hushdrops found their sound. Their name is a completely different story, though. Follow the band @hushdrops on social media. Buy the new album, The Static, wherever you get new music. Give us a follow @PerformanceAnx on social media. You can help support the show at ko-fi.com/performanceanxiety. Merch is available at performanceanx.threadless.com. Since I was caught in traffic when we recorded this, we now join the conversation with John San Juan already in progress on Performance Anxiety on the Pantheon Podcast Network.

Ditty TV: Karl Wallinger of World Party Dec 05, 2021
    Show notes

We're excited to share our recent conversation with Welsh musician, songwriter, and record producer Karl Wallinger, best known for his band, World Party. We caught up with Karl from the control room of his new studio in Hastings in Southern England, where he's overlooking the sea – the English Channel, to be exact. In the 80s and 90s, Karl released a series of chart-topping albums, his first being the critically lauded Private Revolution. It featured the MTV darling doing nearly everything: singing, writing, producing, and playing most instruments. He escaped the sophomore slump with the release of the majestic Goodbye Jumbo. Rolling Stone said that "Goodbye Jumbo displays an ambition as broad as the emotional range of its music." More genius records followed until 2000, when all came to a crashing halt as Karl fell victim to a brain aneurysm. It took some time, but he picked up the pieces and began writing and recording again. This past year found Karl releasing vinyl reissues of his all the albums in his catalog. We're excited to find out what Karl's next move will be. World Party fans – now's the time so stay tuned.
