After 50 years locked away in a vault, the world finally got to see and hear some of the abandoned footage from the Beatles "Let It Be" sessions. The new documentary "Get Back" gives us almost 8 hours of never-before seen film and an unprecedented look at The Beatles at work. It was worth the wait. Decibel Geek 462: New Noize December 2021 Dec 15, 2021
    Show notes

We're back this week to discuss all the rock news that's fit to spit with New Noize December 2021! As we close out another year, there's quite a few interesting stories going on in the rock world and we're here to cover it for you all.

We recently passed the anniversary of the loss of Dimebag Darrel. Coinciding with that, the venue where the tragic shooting happened (Alrosa Villa in Columbus Ohio) met it's fate with a wrecking ball. We discuss our memories of that tragic day as well as the impact that Dimebag had on our lives.

David Lee Roth recently added more dates to his upcoming Las Vegas residency. Billed as his final shows, the addition of dates makes one wonder if this was just another ploy to sell more tickets. We give our thoughts on Diamond Dave's recent announcement.

Former Black Sabbath vocalist Tony Martin recently launched a new single from his upcoming album and it is damn good! We talk about Tony's contributions to Black Sabbath as well as our thoughts on his upcoming album.

Other topics covered this week include Steve Vai reminiscing on playing EVH songs and honoring him, Ted Nugent's strange way of delivering songs, Motley Crue selling their catalog for serious bucks, KISS possibly going on with new members, a Vinnie Vincent festival that was just announced for Nashville, KK Downing being angry, and way more!

We hope you enjoy New Noize December 2021 and SHARE with a friend!

Ditty TV: Kathy Mattea Dec 15, 2021
    Show notes

Welcome to Insights, everyone. Today, our guest is one of the most acclaimed female country artists of our time, West Virginia native and multi-Grammy award-winner, Kathy Mattea. When chatting with an artist of Kathy’s caliber and who’s been at it as long as she has (the early 80s to be exact), there’s obviously so much ground to cover and so many roads to go down. Today, what we focus on mainly is her new role as host of NPR Music and West Virginia Public Broadcasting’s Mountain Stage show.

Kathy’s been performing and sometimes co-hosting on the show for over 30 years, so it makes total sense that she would take the reins. She’s also performed on the show more times than any other female artist, second to fellow West Virginia native Tim O'Brien. While West Virginia will always be her “home,” Kathy’s chatting with us today from her house in Nashville, TN, and we’re honored to connect with her. So, without further ado, please welcome, Kathy Mattea.

Ska Boom: Punky Reggae Party - Basement 5 Dec 14, 2021
    Show notes

Welcome to “Punky Reggae Party” a special audio documentary series of the Ska Boom podcast that focuses on the historical origins and impact of reggae on popular music that will explore the phenomenon of punk and post-punk bands adopting the sounds of reggae

The convergence of punk with reggae and ska in the late 70's and early 80's resulted in some significant musical developments leading some punk and post-punk bands in England to experiment with the sound of reggae and dub in particular.

Reggae was natural for punks to mine as inspirational fuel, just as earlier rock ‘n’ roll eras adopted ideas and energy from blues and R&B. And chances are quite a few English punks had more than a few scratchy Trojan 45s in their record collections and a love of reggae in their blood.

In this episode I’m going dig into the history of Basement 5 who were arguably the first black punk reggae band and are described by many artists who followed them as "hugely influential" and "groundbreaking". And amazingly, Basement 5 continues to be one of the few remaining untold stories of its time.
