The Mistress Carrie Podcast 81: Leslie Mandoki Dec 24, 2021
    Show notes

    Episode #81

Leslie Mandoki is a Hungarian singer, drummer, songwriter, and producer, and is best known for his work with greats like Lionel Richie, Phil Collins, and Chaka Khan, as well as for his work as musical director for Disney’s feature movies including Mulan, Tarzan, and Brother Bear. Running together through a tunnel to escape the iron curtain and communist dictatorship for freedom tends to make for life-long bonds. For the young Hungarian artists, musician Leslie Mandoki and animation artist Gábor Csupo, later the creator of TV classics Rugrats, Aaahh!!! Monster and Duckman, and the original animator for The Simpsons, these bonds have now come to fruition in ways that are the things of dreams. Leslie talked to Mistress Carrie about his childhood and fleeing communism, owning his recording studio, the Mandoki Soulmates and their first US release 'Utopia for Realists', freedom, the Beatles, and much more.

Leslie Mandoki plays together with Ian Anderson (Jethro Tull), John Helliwell (Supertramp), Nick van Eede (Cutting Crew), Till Brönner, Al Di Meola, Jesse Siebenberg (Supertramp), Cory Henry, Mike Stern, Randy Brecker, Bill Evans, Richard Bona, Tony Carey, Bobby Kimball (TOTO), Jack Bruce (Cream), David Clayton-Thomas (Blood, Sweat & Tears), Chris Thompson (Manfred Mann´s Earth Band), Steve Bailey, and Julia Mandoki.

This is the story of the new world-wide, multi-format release on the Sony InsideOut label of MANDOKI

SOULMATES UTOPIA FOR REALISTS, in which Leslie Mandoki’s culturally relevant, socially aware prog-rock,

flavored with the virtuosity of jazz-rock, is tightly integrated with visionary concepts from world-famous

animator Gábor Csupo for Mandoki’s magnum opus “Hungarian Pictures,” inspired by the music of Béla

    Bartók.

Decibel Geek 463: Albums Unleashed - KISS Psycho Circus Dec 24, 2021
    Show notes

We're delivering a big KISSmas gift this week as we are joined by producer/engineer Mike Plotnikoff for Albums Unleashed - KISS Psycho Circus! This album, released in 1998, promised to be the return of the original fearsome foursome to the studio. Unfortunately, it turned out to be anything but that.

Psycho Circus has become a very polarizing album among the KISS fan base. Coming off the heels of the successful Alive Worldwide reunion, anticipation was high for a reunion album. The final product, however, would include more Tommy Thayer and Kevin Valentine contributions than those of Ace Frehley or Peter Criss.

Mike Plotnikoff joins us for this in-depth talk about the making of Psycho Circus. After growing up a KISS fan, it was a big deal for Mike to be involved in the project. Producer Bruce Fairbairn had been on a run of big albums from bands like Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, AC/DC, and Van Halen. His knack for a polished, big guitar sound would also be achieved on Psycho Circus.

In this long-form discussion, Mike Plotnikoff talks about the making of Psycho Circus, the mood between the members in the studio, the use of outside musicians, songs that didn't make the album, and much more!

We hope you enjoy Albums Unleashed - KISS Psycho Circus and SHARE with a friend!

Ditty TV: Samantha Fish Dec 23, 2021
    Show notes

Welcome to Insights, everyone. Our guest today is Kansas City native Samantha Fish, the magnetic and original blues-rock and Americana artist behind the new studio album, Faster, which is available now via Rounder Records. If you know Samantha, you know she has a great sense of fashion and great musical taste, and she loves performing, especially her new songs.

She recorded the new album, on which she channels her blues heroes but always gives it a unique spin, at The Village Studios in LA, a recording complex housed in a 1920's Masonic Temple. This record’s a snapshot of where she was in 2020, and ultimately, it’s an album about being bold. We’re so excited to have her on the show to discuss the new album and what she’s been up to recently. So without further ado, here’s Samantha Fish.
