Performance Anxiety: Peat Rains (You Bred Raptors?) Jan 29, 2022
    Show notes

If you’re looking for new music, this is the episode for you. Peat Rains of You Bred Raptors? (with the question mark) is the guest. He’s the kind of guy who started playing bass because everyone else was playing guitar. His introduction to music was a little different than most. His earliest influence was his deadhead pastor father. Immediately after high school, he was signed to a label in a Pennsylvania diner. It was one of those milkshake type of deals. He started playing 8 string bass because of a typo and a friend willing to front him $700. The band You Bred Raptors? has paid its dues by busking in New York City subways. But that’s also how they got the gig opening for Yoko Ono at MOMA, a TED Talk, and several birthday parties. Peat is very candid about being difficult to define, winning the all important wife demographic, and what Rick Springfield has or has not done for him. We also find out about the strangest tip the band has ever received. Follow the band @youbredraptors on social media. Buy music on Bandcamp or at their website youbredraptors.com (which is where you can also book them for YOUR next birthday party). Follow us @PerformanceAnx on social media. Goldmine: Mandoki Soulmates Jan 28, 2022
    Show notes

Producer, composer and drummer Leslie Mandoki comes on the Goldmine Podcast to talk about the latest album by prog rock supergroup Mandoki Soulmates, Utopia For Realists. Mandoki Soulmates can be called a supergroup because of its many collaborators — beginning in its infancy with contributions from Jon Lord, Greg Lake and Jack Bruce and currently involving the likes of Jethro Tull's Ian Anderson, Mike Stern, Al DiMeola on the latest release. Leslie has stories to share, as a Hungarian refugee in 1975, escaping the Iron Curtain, to working with the late Soulmate bassist Jack Bruce (Cream) to vocalist Eric Burden (Animals, War) and Phil Collins (Genesis), Prog lovers will take a lot from this particular episode.

    Show notes

Movie Night is a cinematic journey into our favorite music films and concert documentaries. Download the pod, stream the movie, and sync up to our winning commentary. It's like we're all hanging out again.

With Omicron giving us early COVID vibes, we decided to lock down with another Movie Night episode. This week we take another look at the tragic loss of one of the most promising young rappers of the decade. HBO Max's Music Box: Juice Wrld: Into the Abyss takes an unflinching look at the meteoric rise rand sudden death of Jarad Higgins, better known by the stage name Juice Wrld, all through the candid lens of his own behind the scenes videographer. It's a portrait of an artist whose significant talent was only outweighed by his private battles with mental illness and drug addiction. Needless to say, you might want to grab your tissues for this one.

CW: Frank discussions of drug use, depression, suicide, and death.

Long May You Young 68: Storytone - Part One (feat. Joel Desmarais-Racine) Jan 27, 2022
    Show notes

Joel Desmarais-Racine (Don't Be Denied podcast, Neil Young Canadianposting) joins the boys all the way from Canada for this mammoth two-parter where we try and tackle every inch of Storytone! We discuss the making of the recordings. We get into our favorites and least favorites of the 3 versions Neil released. Joel brings up Neil's relationship with Pegi vs. Daryl. Luke and Russ feel a bit like Disney Princess's. Joel can't believe we've never seen Predator 2. Mike gets a little annoyed at Luke calling Neil "Giddy Lee". Luke learns something new about David Hasselhoff and Jackie Chan.

Decibel Geek 466: Chris & Aaron Do Florida Jan 27, 2022
    Show notes

This week the guys recount a roller-coaster of a weekend in the sunshine state as Chris & Aaron Do Florida! One of the more memorable guests from Decibel Geek history was Dick Wagner. The original career-spanning interview with Dick as well as his appearance for an Albums Unleashed episode on Alice Cooper's Dada album were listener favorites and it led to a friendship between the guys which was cut short due to Dick Wagner's untimely passing a few years ago. Dick's partner Susan Michelson also became a friend through that experience. Susan would go on to found the Dick Wagner Remember the Child Fund; a music therapy program that provides musical instruction and instruments to sick and disabled children. That's what led to last week's events in Florida.

The Dick Wagner Remember the Child Fund recently added Woodstock co-founder and music industry legend Artie Kornfeld to it's board. Artie will be working with the charity in many ways in the near future. Chris & Aaron were selected by the charity to be the interviewers for an upcoming film project featuring Artie. The guys met up with Artie at Dogmanic Studios in Pompano Beach, FL for several hours of discussion of his amazing career with a hyper-focus on Woodstock and it's societal impact.

The interview was a definite highlight of Chris & Aaron's trip to Florida but not the only thing that happened. In this episode, the guys give a day-by-day account of the trip. There are many ups and downs throughout this loose discussion. From too much alcohol on too little sleep to rental car adventures to meeting some special friends while in town to flight issues to having one of those friends come in and save the day; there's a lot to discuss.

We hope you enjoy Chris & Aaron Do Florida and SHARE with a friend!

Decibel Geek is a proud member of the Pantheon Podcasts family.

Chris & Aaron would like to give special thanks to Susan Michelson, Deborah Peak, Artie Kornfeld, Ralph Viera, Charlie & Daniella Hill, videographer Albert Aronov, and Christian and the team at Dogmanic Studios for the hospitality.

Stephanie and Stephanie Talk Tunes: Meat Loaf | Previously Unreleased 2010 Interview + Meat Memories Jan 26, 2022
    Show notes

Co-host Stephanie Myers has long considered herself a Meat Loaf superfan -- she saw him in concert 13 times, has every album, and has seen all his movies. After his tragic Jan. 20 passing, she's looking back on lots of amazing memories, ranging from meeting him after a show to interviewing him for an article. What she's sharing here today are not only her stories and memories connected to his music and legacy, but also the previously unreleased audio from that 2010 interview, shortly after the release of his album "Hang Cool Teddy Bear." Meat was his usual warm self in this interview, and we want to share that side of him with you on this episode. Meat talks with Stephanie about the album, touring, the music industry, and even the music he enjoyed at the time (including Foo Fighters/Dave Grohl and Kings of Leon). The Stephanies hope you enjoy it. Rest well, Meat.
