No FIller: Marcus Congleton's Niche-less Indie Rock - The Music Of Ambulance LTD Feb 01, 2022
    Show notes

We're taking a break from the dream pop resurgence of the 2010s to reminisce over one of Quentin's favorite indie rock records from our high school years: Ambulance LTD's "LP" from 2004. With a frontman in constant struggle to keep his band together, and a bankrupt record label preventing him from releasing new material, Marcus Congleton's Ambulance LTD was rather short-lived. Though they may not have had enough time to evolve their sound and bring it to maturity, a band that once said "their niche is not sticking to any particular niche" somehow managed to release one of the better guitar pop records from 2004; a true gem in the era of cookie cutter indie pop.

    Tracklist:

    1. Primitive (The Way I Treat You)
    2. Ophelia
    3. Sugar Pill
    4. Sugar Pill (demo version)
    5. Stay Tuned
    6. Drug Cabin - Steely Dad

See Hear: Voyage of the Rock Aliens Feb 01, 2022
    Show notes

Would you be tempted to watch a film where aliens travel around in a space ship in the shape of a Flying V looking for the source of rock and roll in the universe? How about if it involved a high school romance, a battle of the bands, escaped mental patients armed to the teeth, and a polluted lake?

Tim, Bernie, Maurice and friend of the show Paul Ryan have done just that.....and had a conversation about it for your aural pleasure.

Welcome to episode 93 of See Hear Podcast.

Voyage Of The Rock Aliens is a forgotten musical from 1984, made in an era when instead of the MGM musicals of yesteryear, we were presented with Can't Stop The Music and The Apple. Like many musicals from the 70s and 80s, Voyage combines fantastical elements with popular music....at least what was popular in the mid 80s....so synths, Linn drums, big hair and space costumes are the order of business here. Did we mention that Jermaine Jackson appears in the opening minutes of this film for NO REASON AT ALL????

When aliens are looking for where rock and roll music is in the universe, they're going to trace it to a town called Speelburgh (ho ho ho) where they hear techno music being sung by Pia Zadora....because, yeah....

The film attempts to be a parody of several different styles of film making – is it successful? Download the episode and we'll tell you.

Our gratitude to Paul for bringing this suggestion to the show and joining us to discuss it. As Bernie said, “Thanks a bunch, Paul”. You can find the film on Youtube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DEWQH1ajnbk&t=1007s

If you’ve been enjoying the show, please consider giving us a favourable review on iTunes and let your friends know that our show exists. If you don't enjoy the show, tell your adversaries to tune in. We don't care who listens.....

Imbalanced History Of Rock And Roll: The Day The Music Died Jan 31, 2022
    Show notes

February 3rd, 1959...encapsulated in song as "The Day The Music Died." The truth is always deeper (and sometimes darker) than the manner in which old school media portrayed major news stories. Given the difference in media cycles in the 1950's versus today, it might be hard to understand how slowly news traveled, and how few details were shared by news reports of the day, The media didn't know how much they didn't know.

That's especially true in this case, the tragic airplane death of Rock n' Rollers Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J.P. Richardson, aka The Big Bopper. The tragic crash had immediate impact, but the long-term effect, in its aftermath, has grown through the decades.

The Imbalanced Boys take a closer look at this history-altering event in music.

Shout It Out Loudcast: Album Review Crew Episode 27 "Slave To The Grind" with Chris Jericho Jan 31, 2022
    Show notes

On the 27th Episode of the Album Review Crew of Shout It Out Loudcast, Tom, Zeus, Sonny & Special Guest, the one and only, AEW Superstar and Fozzy Lead Singer, Chris Jericho joins us to review the 1991 second album by Skid Row, "Slave To The Grind."

This historic album was the first metal album to debut at number #1 on the Billboard 200 on the Neilson SoundScan era. The double platinum album was once again produced by the legendary Michael Wagener. It showcased the band's heavier sound and transitioned the band away from the "Hair Metal" label.

The album featured some of the best vocal work ever by one of the era's greatest frontman, Sebastian Bach. The dual guitar attack of Dave "Snake" Sabo & Scotti Hill & main songwriter/bassist Rachel Bolan and drummer, Rob Affuso. The music incorporated some punk, thrash and metal influences and more serious, gritty and political lyrics as well.

This was Shout It Out Loudcast's first ever Patreon Pick, which means the exclusive members of SIOL's Patreon family selected this album.

The boys breakdown and dissect the tracks, and rank the songs. They then rank the album and the cover against the previous 25 albums reviewed on the Album Review Crew Episodes.

So listen, enjoy and laugh along or as Bach sang. . . Get The F*&K Out!
