Is It Rolling, Bob? Talking Dylan: Laura Tenschert Jan 24, 2022
    Show notes

Fellow podcaster Laura Tenschert’s Definitely Dylan contains multitudes of theories and insights which she shares in this eye-opening episode. German-born Laura learned English by listening to Bob, which gave her sharper ears than most. Dozens of songs are given forensic treatment, ranging from classics like Lord Protect My Child and Buckets of Rain to oddities like Fur Slippers and Dirty World.

Topics covered include Dylan commenting on his creativity via his songs, where the next generation of Bob’s fans will come from, his penchant for “Dad jokes” and the tight connection between To Ramona and False Prophet. Laura even manages to explain the difference between Tulsa’s Bob Dylan Institute, Tulsa’s Bob Dylan Archive and the Bob Dylan Centre in (yes) Tulsa. An ideal companion for anyone walkin’ down the Dylan highway.

Dylan scholar Laura Tenschert is the creator of Definitely Dylan, a podcast exploring the work of Bob Dylan and its relevance in our culture from a modern, feminist perspective. She is a board member at the Institute of Bob Dylan Studies at the University of Tulsa and contributed to the 2021 book Dylan At 80: It Used To Go Like That, And Now It Goes Like This.

Ska Boom: Punky Reggae Party - Grace Jones & the Compass Point All Stars Jan 22, 2022
    Show notes

Welcome to “Punky Reggae Party” a special audio documentary series of the Ska Boom podcast that focuses on the historical origins and impact of reggae on popular music that will explore the phenomenon of punk and post-punk bands adopting the sounds of reggae.

I first became aware of Grace Jones late one night during the mid 80s when I happened upon her video for “My Jamaican Guy” on Friday Night Videos. For younger listeners, Friday Night Videos aired on NBC and was an attempt by the network to compete directly with MTV.

The song was my official introduction to Jones and her backing band the Compass Point All-Stars with whom she collaborated to record her iconic trilogy of albums -– Warm Leatherette in 1980, Night Clubbing in 1981, and Living My Life in 1982 recorded at the Compass Point Studios in the Bahamas for Islands Records founder Chris Blackwell.

Ska Boom is hosted/co-produced by Marc Wasserman & co-produced/engineered by Rob George.

Pamela Des Barres' Pajama Party with Lyndsey Parker Jan 22, 2022
    Show notes

My guest this week is Lyndsey Parker. We have been friends for a long time, and I'm thrilled to say that her latest book which she co-authored, the autobiography of legendary muse and former GTOs member Mercy Fontenot, "Permanent Damage: Memoirs of an Outrageous Girl", is not only just incredibly well written, but the nods from the press and readers have been sensational ! We speak about Mercy's last few years helping Lyndsey get the book together, and of course the funny stories that went along with it.

Lyndsey is the music editor at Yahoo Entertainment and host of the daily SiriusXM Volume show Volume West and Rhino Records' podcast series Totally '80s. Considered an expert in music and pop culture, Parker is an Online Journalism Award nominee and has written for Elle, MOJO, Rolling Stone, NME, and Guitar. She is a regular commentator on AXS TV’s The Top Ten Revealed and has appeared in the Netflix documentary The Show Must Go On: The Queen + Adam Lambert Story and the A&E documentary I Want My MTV, as well as on VH1's Behind the Music, CNN, MTV, The Insider, and Good Day L.A.

Tune in now as we speak about all things Rock and Roll.
