    Show notes

We're bringing you a great batch of ear candy for you this week with the Radio Sucks Radio Show March 2022! If you're new to Decibel Geek, the premise is simple; radio continues to spin the same 50 songs over and over again while newer artists and new material by our favorite bands regularly get ignored. That's not the case here!

We've got 10 great tunes to band your head to this week. You'll get great tracks from young bands including Whiskey Grin, Bloody Heels, On Top, and Junkyard Dive. Also, a fresh new rock track from Eightball and new tracks from great artists such as Kane Roberts, Santa Cruz, Million $ Reload, and John Corabi. We close things out with a spin on classic KISS' sound with a track from Klassik '78 from their new 'Phantoms' album.

It's an hour-plus of great music and talk so join us for Radio Sucks Radio Show March 2022!

Performance Anxiety: Matt North Mar 18, 2022
    Show notes

Longtime drummer turned guitarist, singer, & songwriter Matt North graces the podcast today. He’s got such an amazing story that starts with his uncle, the poet laureate Jesse Stuart. His influence on Matt’s life is unquantifiable. As was moving from his hometown as a child. But he found comfort and friendships playing the drums. It was such a help to him that he found himself playing as a professional drummer by the age of thirteen! But that’s just the beginning.

He moved to San Francisco for the music scene but stayed for the comedy. He began doing standup and roomed with Patton Oswalt and Mitch Hedberg. Their dedication to their craft lit a fire under Matt, but for his music, not his comedy. He wound up in LA playing drums, professionally and even doing some acting. But with the rising cost of living in LA, coupled with the discovery that his son had a learning disability and would require assistance, Matt and his family decided it was time to leave. He moved to Nashville where he ended up in a lawsuit about the quality of the special needs education his son was receiving. All of this helped to inspire his latest album, Bullies In The Backyard. There are songs influenced by his legal battles, the job he had to get at The Home Depot to help pay for that battle, and even his awesome mother-in-law. Go buy the album at mattnorth.net and while you’re there, click the social links to keep an eye on this guy. And follow us, too @PerformanceAnx. You can help us through ko-fi.com/performanceanxiety or getting merch at performanceanx.threadless.com. Rate & review. and check out all the other great shows on the Pantheon Podcast Network, like Long May You Young, The Rock & Roll Archive, Stephanie & Stephanie Talk Tunes, Side Jams, & more. But for now, check out singer, songwriter, & great dad, Matt North on Performance Anxiety.

    Show notes

Century Club is your weekly shot of what's new in music. Every week, the Tunes & Tumblers team bring you a mini pairing of a recent release and a craft shooter to keep your quarantine interesting. Make all the shots to enter the esteemed club yourself.

Florence Welsh and her Machine have returned from wherever they reside in the Fae to bless us with the first taste of their new album. "King" is a march to war between artistic ambition, family, and social expectation with Florence + the Machine striding right down the middle. Knock back the non-alcoholic yet invigorating Golden Crown shot before you take up arms yourself.

But the fun doesn't stop there. Psychedelic folk duo Party of the Sun stop by the pod to send us off with an exclusive live performance of their song "See Through" from their latest EP Capsule I. It's a smooth and satisfying dessert to one of our fierest conversations to date. Cheers!

I'm In Love With That Song: The Edgar Winter Group - "Frankenstein" Mar 18, 2022
    Show notes

In our previous episode, we looked at the history of instrumental songs that topped the pop charts. For my money, there's never been a more unlikely hit instrumental than the synth-infused, riff-heavy stomper that is Edgar Winter's "Frankenstein". This episode, we break down this instrumental classic featuring Edgar Winter on keyboards, sax and drums.

Songfacts Podcast: Michelle Willis Mar 17, 2022
    Show notes

Michelle Willis... is so startlingly talented. She's probably one of the best singers I've ever heard in my life.

    ~David Crosby

When asked how her 2012 self would react if told she would have David Crosby and Michael McDonald play on one of her albums one day, Michelle Willis would not have been surprised. That's not arrogance, it's self confidence, and Willis oozes with it. She is a performer who knows what she is capable of with her voice, her instrument (keyboard), and her writing.

Having spent the last few years with a front-row seat to Crosby's resurgence, playing on two of his most recent albums and touring with his band, we are now treated to Willis' new album Just One Voice out April 8, 2022.

On this episode of the Songfacts Podcast, Michelle talks about some of the songs on the new album, plays a bit of her amazing song "Janet," and gives us some insight on all things Crosby. Having had a chance to listen to this album top to bottom, I can tell you that it is a must listen.
