The Ugly American Werewolf in London: KISS Revenge with Tom & Zeus of Shout It Out Loudcast May 13, 2022
    Show notes

Tom & Zeus have the #1 KISS podcast on the planet in Shout It Out Loudcast. Not only do they have deep knowledge and undeniable passion for KISS but they're also hilarious and we never miss an episode. So this week we had our Pantheon Podcasts brothers on to talk KISS's 1992 album, Revenge. The first without Eric Carr behind the drums, the first for Eric Singer, and the first time in a decade they worked with Vinnie Vincent & Bob Ezrin. We had a blast remembering college days, listening to tunes, watching KISS X-treme Close-Up, seeing the Revenge Tour and late night conversations with Ace Frehley posters. If you're not having fun talking KISS, you're doing it wrong!!

Decibel Geek 475: Eric Dover Reflects on Slash's Snakepit 'It's Five O'Clock Somewhere' May 12, 2022
    Show notes

This week Eric Dover joins us to discuss Slash's Snakepit's 1995 release 'It's Five O'Clock Somewhere.'

In 1995, Guns N' Roses were one of the biggest bands in the world; yet one of the most divided. Ongoing tensions between the members of the band would lead to constant delays in new material and the future of the band in limbo. Not one to sit around, Slash was moved to create new material on his own. With the go-ahead from label heads at Geffen Records, Slash started assembling a lineup of players and got right to work. Bringing in fellow Guns members Matt Sorum, Gilby Clarke, and Dizzy Reed as well as the bass talents of Alice in Chains member Mike Inez, he quickly got several songs written and demoed musically. With additional songwriting contributions from Izzy Stradlin and Duff McKagan, the album is loaded with Guns n' Roses attitude and sound; albeit without Axl Rose on vocals.

With lots of great music ready to go, Slash needed a singer. After auditioning over 40 others, the job went to former Jellyfish member Eric Dover. It was an unlikely hiring considering Eric was a backing vocalist with Jellyfish. But, after an impassioned audition and showing he had the songwriting chops to hang with him, Slash offered him the job. The resulting album 'It's Five O'Clock Somewhere' is a lean, mean slab of bluesy rock n' roll featuring blistering vocals and Slash's identifiable guitar tone and solos.

Eric Dover shares his memories of his time with Slash's Snakepit for this special Albums Unleashed episode; from his audition to the songwriting and recording process to the tour for the album. There's a lot of great stories in this chat that give you a behind the scenes look at what Eric went through during this time. We think you'll enjoy this one for sure.

Eric has done a lot more in his career and we hope you'll check out his other projects including Sextus and more recently The Lickerish Quartet. We hope you enjoy our talk with Eric Dover about his time with Slash's Snakepit and SHARE with a friend!

Performance Anxiety: Ben Vaughn May 11, 2022
    Show notes

Welcome Ben Vaughn into our world. The world of Performance Anxiety. Ben is one guest whose career left no room for Performance Anxiety. He was always that guy who was SUPER into music. Even though he had a genuine love of music, he started a family and worked as a landscaper in New Jersey. But once he started playing, he was hooked. But until Pulp Fiction, he was a man out of his time. But when his surf rock influenced album, Instrumental Stylings, coincided with the release of Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction, combined with a chance comment on Morning Becomes Eclectic changed Ben’s career. He began writing music for TV and movies, the first of which was the classic, 3rd Rock From The Sun.

We discuss all of this, our mutual love of AMC cars, turning his Rambler into a studio, recording an engine solo, his radio show/podcast, The Many Moods Of Ben Vaughn, his latest album, The World Of Ben Vaughn, and so much more. It’s a fascinating discussion on an unusual career in music and TV. Follow Ben @benvaughnmusic on Instagram. Check out benvaughn.org for more links. Shout It Out Loudcast: The Worst Cover Song Ever? May 11, 2022
    Show notes

This week Tom & Zeus discuss whether Poison's version of the legendary KISS classic, "Rock And Roll All Nite" is the worst cover song ever. In 1987 the movie Less Than Zero premiered and the Original Motion Soundtrack was a mixture of hard rock, hip hop and contemporary pop. The soundtrack was produced by legendary producer, Rick Rubin. The soundtrack album went gold and featured three singles. The Bangles, LL Cool J, Slayer, Public Enemy were some of the artists on the album. But the first single released from the album was a cover of Rock And Roll All Nite performed by the perennial punching bags of SIOL, Poison.

Tom and Zeus discuss this version, the good, the bad and the ugly. The song itself, whether it should have been done by Poison or by anyone else.

Another episode where strong opinions are given and a special appearance by Shaq and SIOL's favorite "handsome" team, the 1986 Celtics.
