I'm In Love With That Song: The Electric Prunes - "I Had Too Much To Dream (Last Night)" May 17, 2022
    Show notes

Music was expanding in all directions in the 1960's; one of my favorite genres is the psychedelic/garage rock from that era. Few songs capture the sound & the spirit of that style as "I Had Too Much To Dream (Last Night)" by The Electric Prunes. Take a trip with me back to those halcyon days with one of the flagship songs from the psychedelic period.

Vintage Rock Pod 63: John Steel - The Animals May 16, 2022
    Show notes

John Steel is a founding member of the brilliant 60s group, THE ANIMALS!

The group were one of the leading bands of the British Invasion and had 10 top 20 hits both in the UK and US but will be forever remembered for one of the classic songs of all time, their rendition of House of the Rising Sun.

Bruce Springsteen publicly declared The Animals as his favourite British group of the 60s, while Bob Dylan changed his sound after hearing them. They were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1994 in a class alongside Elton John, Sir Rod Stewart, Bob Marley, John Lennon and the Grateful Dead!

In this interview John tells great stories from their time in the US, the crazy reception they received from the airport, falling out with Nina Simone, partying with Hermans Hermits and so much more!

The Band: A History: The Last Waltz - Part Six May 16, 2022
    Show notes

Full-on post-production of The Last Waltz took place over an eighteen-month period from the winter of 1977 through the spring of 1978. It was a monstrous undertaking with many moving pieces between the studio, producers, technicians, crews and the musicians.

Ultimately, the release of the film and soundtrack in April 1978 led Martin Scorsese and Robbie Robertson across the globe to promote their film. The Last Waltz, the imperfect masterpiece was a defining moment of their careers whether or not they knew it or wanted it to be. Forever on celluloid, one of the most important acts of the 1960s and 1970s was immortalized surrounded by their peers.

The Band: A History is produced, written and hosted by Tyrell William Lisson with additional research and writing by Alex McGillivray and post-production sound and editing by Michael Koehler.

Is It Rolling, Bob? Talking Dylan: Steven Cockcroft May 16, 2022
    Show notes

Belfast’s Steven Cockcroft (co-host of leading Beatles podcast Nothing Is Real) offers unexpected takes on The Boys and Bob: “Roll On John isn’t about an individual, it’s about the sanctification of Lennon” and “The Travelling Wilburys was a calculated move by George”. Also on the menu: Dylan’s questionable harmonies on an obscure Ringo album track and his controversial cover of Paul’s Things We Said Today. Plus: did you know that John asked Bob to play piano on Cold Turkey? Have you discovered the reference to Ringo on Don’t Fall Apart On Me Tonight? Ever hear Dylan’s in-concert cover of The Long and Winding Road? Or hear about the accusatory T-shirt he was gifted by George?

How good is our Beatles episode? This Englishman said fab.

Steven Cockroft is a partner in a law firm in Belfast. He co-hosts Nothing Is Real, the best Beatles podcast out there. Born in 1963, he grew up firmly believing the 1960s were the Golden Age. In the late 1970s, he sat out the 'punk wars', listening to Bob Dylan, The Beatles and Van Morrison. Hosting the podcast came about after Steven and co-host Jason Carty won the Beatle Brain of Ireland competition. They have interviewed Kevin Godley, Mark Lewisohn and several ex-members of Wings but are best known for their humorous and forensic following of the Fabs and their post-Beatles projects.

Ska Boom: 2 Tone Legacy - Mirror In The Bathroom May 15, 2022
    Show notes

Welcome to 2 Tone Legacy a special 10-part audio documentary series of the Ska Boom podcast that focuses on the stories behind the songs that contribute to the enduring legacy of 2 Tone music and its ongoing impact on popular culture. In each episode, I'll be joined by Paul Williams, author of "You're Wondering Now: The Specials from Conception to Reunion" and lead singer of UK 2-Tone band The Skapones. Paul is a noted 2 Tone expert and he'll be sharing his memories and insights on all the songs covered in this series.

It's my humble opinion that Mirror In The Bathroom by The Beat is the most distinctive song of the 80s let alone the entire 2 Tone era. This unique sound that drummer Everett Morton and bassist David Steele created together on early songs by The Beat have served as the blueprint for much of the late 80s and early 90s American ska boom that followed.

Ska Boom is hosted/produced by Marc Wasserman and co-produced/engineered by Rob George and appears on Pantheon Podcasts. Ska Boom is the audio companion to my book Ska Boom: An American Ska & Reggae Oral History available from DiWulf Publishing and Amazon.
