OG 283: Carolina Hurricanes dominate road trip | Is Canales really on a Panthers hot seat? | Not the World Series we were promised Oct 29, 2024

Show notes

Joe Ovies and Joe Giglio open the show with the World Series, which has not been a battle of titans thanks to Aaron Judge and the New York Yankees fizzling out. That expands into a larger conversation about baseball becoming a regional sport and how the New York City media no longer dictates what fans are talking about. Moving on to the NFL, where the Carolina Panthers look to be sellers at the trade deadline. CBS Sports' Will Brinson also floats the possibility of Dave Canales being on the hot seat. To the NHL, where the Carolina Hurricanes were spectacular during their traditional NC State Fair road trip. N&O columnist Luke DeCock helps break down what's been going right and what could potentially be an issue for the Canes.

OG 282: Dave Canales has no confidence in Bryce Young | Duke, UNC remain 'Coastal Forever' | NFL Lightning Round! Oct 28, 2024

Show notes

Joe Ovies and Joe Giglio open the show lamenting the fact they had to seriously watch the Carolina Panthers because Bryce Young started. What did they learn? There's zero confidence around the QB. Only one thing remains true about the Panthers -- Sean Payton loves to troll his old NFC South rival. Over to college football, where Duke made the worst kind of history in their loss to SMU. The Blue Devils will see Miami next, which is a very winnable game given the Hurricanes keep playing with their food. Mario Cristobal dropped some recruiting bars after the Canes beat FSU, but so did Mike Elko. Giglio has a message for Texas A&M fans though. Over to Chapel Hill, where the Tar Heels potentially reset their season with a win over Virginia. In the NFL Lightning Round, Ovies takes a victory lap over Aaron Rodgers before whipping around the league.

OG Business Preview: TV's role in potential College Football Super League Oct 24, 2024

Show notes

Joe Ovies and Demetri Ravanos welcome you to "OG on Business", an every other week look at the sports media business. ESPN is taking College GameDay to Indiana. While Ovies thinks the destination tracks with the show's typical October curveballs, Demetri is convinced it's all part of a Lee Corso official retirement soft launch. Speaking of ESPN, what is their role in the success or demise of "Project Rudy"? Disney and FOX essentially have a duopoly when it comes to college football broadcasting, so where would the push really come from to adopt the proposals of this college football super league idea? Joe and Demetri close the podcast with quick thoughts on Tom Brady's ownership role impacting his role at FOX and how a certain demographic of ex-ESPN personality goes the 'cancel culture' route after they leave Bristol.

OG 280: Aho, Canes step up vs. Oilers | Can the Hornets save Charlotte? | ECU's spot on the coaching carousel | Toxic Panthers vibes Oct 23, 2024

Show notes

Joe Ovies and Joe Giglio open the show a little tired since Ovies spent the last 2 nights watching Sturgill Simpson in Cary. He managed to get back in time to watch the 2nd & 3rd periods of the Carolina Hurricanes OT winner at Edmonton, which was a classic case of "your best players needing to be your best players". Over in the NBA, while LeBron James made history with his son, folks in Charlotte are wondering in the Hornets can save their city's current sports woes. At the very least, it won't be as toxic as things are getting around the Carolina Panthers. In college football, where is ECU sitting in the upcoming coaching carousel?

OG 279: Getting awkward between Panthers & Bryce Young | Miami vs. Clemson ACC collision course? | Canes check-in | Lightning Round! Oct 22, 2024

Show notes

Joe Ovies and Joe Giglio open the show wondering if Copiers Plus can reboot Carolina Panthers head coach Dave Canales, because the man needs a press conference talking point reboot as things continue to get awkward over Bryce Young. ACC Network analyst Eric Mac Lain drops by to assess where things stand in the conference football race and how many teams should make the expanded College Football Playoff. Mike Maniscalco jumped on for a Carolina Hurricanes check-in, where it seems the team has already run a full season arc in the course of 4 games. In the Lightning Round, Ovies and Giglio hit some NFL headlines and a curious NC State basketball fun fact.
