    89. The Lakewood Monster Jul 08, 2020
    Show notes

Today we are headed to the Pacific Northwest to just a bit south of Seatle Washington to a town by the name of Lakewood. Lakewood is home to McChord Air Force Base with lots of its residents supported by the base, many of the residents know one another or at least knows a friend of a friend. The small community of around 59,000 people love the area and feel safe here that is until July 4, 1996, that would all change as a monster would pay a visit to Lakewood and change it forever.

    88. Just A Simple Plan: Carl Patton Jul 01, 2020
    Show notes

It is December 20, 1977, when two hunters, out for the afternoon looking to bring home some ducks for Christmas dinner, stumble upon something. Unfortunately for them, that something was not a holiday feast but the body of a woman who, from the looks of it, had been out there for a while. The men called the police immediately and due to the location, two responding counties arrive, Fayette County and Clayton County. As officers look closer they can easily see what was the cause of death: two gunshot wounds to her head. As officers are working to secure the scene and collect evidence, it doesn’t take long to notice something else. They see it is a sleeping bag, but when they pull it from the water, they know it is not empty. Once on the banks, another female body is discovered inside the sleeping bag. Investigators are in shock but this case was far from over.

SPECIAL: Victims of Injustice: Black Lives Matter Jun 10, 2020
    Show notes

This episode is completely different than normal. OTCP, along with 19 other podcasters from around the world, came together to stand with the BLM movement. Although we had a very small part in the making of this episode, we are so thrilled to be part of it. All proceeds we make on this episode will be donated to The Loveland Foundation Therapy Fund. https://thelovelandfoundation.org/loveland-therapy-fund/
As podcasters, we have a platform and duty to speak up and call out injustice. In light of the murder of George Floyd, we have come together in solidarity to use our platform to speak up against racial injustice and amplify the voices of black podcasters that deserve more recognition. Racism is prevalent in all industries; from the media who under-report on black victims to the justice system which routinely fails black victims. In this collaborative episode, we document black history and current events with the voices of those who have lived through it.

    86. A Stranger in the Night May 13, 2020
    Show notes

*THIS EPISODE INVOLVES DETAILS THAT MAY BE DIFFICULT TO HEAR FOR CERTAIN PEOPLE. Listener discretion is advised.
It is August 5, 1992, just before midnight when 29-year-old Joan Burghardht returns home to her apartment after a night of having fun with friends. When she got inside, she felt something was not right. It scared her enough to call the police. The police arrived at her house and she explained to them about the missing money, the fan, and that it seemed like her dresser drawers had been messed up as if someone was looking for something. Police took her statement and did a sweep of the house. Whoever was in Joan’s apartment earlier was now gone. Officers told her to keep on a few lights and to make sure all the windows and doors stay locked. Sadly for Joan, this would not be the last visit from a stranger in the dark.

    85. Friendship Fraud: George Kalomeris May 06, 2020
    Show notes

Fifty-six-year-old Thomas Jones was a reserved kind of fella. He lived modestly and wanted a simple kind of life so the community of Mulford Delaware provided exactly what he wanted and needed. Thomas lived by himself and was a farmer. He owned and operated a small farm but he was not quite your typical farmer. Thomas was a paraplegic but that didn’t stop him from doing what he loved to do including farming his land. It was August 13, 1997, when a hired healthcare nurse stopped by to check on Thomas. The nurse called out his name after not answering the door. As she looked around, she knew something was not quite right. Thomas kept a clean and tidy house and things always had their place. There were dishes on the table and a few papers strewn about. His wheelchair was not in the house, so she ventured outside thinking maybe he was just outside. As she was looking around, she saw something and it was not good. There was a splattering of blood in a line as if something was bleeding as it was walking away. The nurse rushed to call 9-1-1. This is just the start of a twisted tale as it just weirder from here.

On October 21, 2009, a 6-year-old neighbor girl who lives nearby shows up and asks if 9-year-old Elizabeth Olten, the youngest of Patty Preiss’s children to come over and play for a bit. At first, Patty said no but we know how convincing two little girls can be and she finally broke and said ok but Elizabeth had to be home by 6 pm for dinner. When 6 pm comes and goes and Elizabeth doesn’t arrive home, her mom knows something is not right. Elizabeth is scared of the dark and would never come home after nightfall. Patty makes a phone call to the neighbor’s house to see what time Elizabeth left their house. Patty is shocked to hear that Elizabeth was never at their house. Police arrive to investigate and what unfolds is a sick and twisted tale.

Jackie along with two friends were playing in and around Frog Pond, a pond near their homes located in the woods nearby. 82. Blue Eyed Six Apr 15, 2020
    Show notes

We have another Listener Submitted Script for you today!
The Blue-Eyed Six was a group of men who thought they had a foolproof plan to make money by taking out life insurance policies on an old recluse, named Joseph Raber. Thinking he was frail and on the verge of death, they hoped for a speedy return on their investment.
This crime became an international sensation in 1878. In fact, it was so huge, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the author of Sherlock Holmes, paid homage to the town and the sensational name given to the murderers in his short story 'The Red-Headed League'.

    81. The Lying Game Apr 08, 2020
    Show notes

It is February 2008 in Arlington Heights Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, where we first meet a young man by the name of Justin Newman. Justin is a blonde-haired, blue-eyed 20-year old who was working at a home improvement store and trying to figure out what to do with his life. Justin, who lived with his mother, was a generous kid who had been working since he could so that he could help his mom pay the bills. He was a very likable kid, responsible and hard-working. Working at the improvement store, allowed him to meet a lot of construction workers and contractors and one of these contractors was a man by the name of Ari Squire. This chance meeting would leave a trail of destruction. As is so often the case, not all is what it seems.
