147. The Trunk Murders: Winnie Judd Dec 01, 2021

It was October 16, 1931, when Winnie Ruth Judd bought a train ticket, boarded the vessel with the two traveling trunks, and made her way to Los Angeles. En route, the trunks began to leak and emit a horrible smell. Police greeted Judd at the Los Angeles station and asked her to open the trunks. Winnie was afraid and mortified on the inside, but her outward demeanor was coy and stand-offish. When asked to smell the trunks, she leaned in and claimed that she couldn't smell anything at all. The baggage attendants pushed her to open the trunks. Claiming that her husband had the keys, she fled the scene. What would occur next would leave many asking what happened and who was responsible?

On September 14th, 2015, Nicola “Nikki” Cross tucked her two children into bed and kissed them goodnight in their home in Hemel Hampstead. Her husband, Daniel, was on a business trip in Hull three hours away,
Around 10:30 pm a strange man appeared outside the house demanding Nikki let him in. Nikki called Daniel to discuss how she and the kids could get somewhere safe when the strange man broke into the home. Helpless, Daniel listened as the whole nightmare unfolded.

144. A Family Shattered: Becky Watts, Bristol's Angel Nov 03, 2021

Cam and Jen are going to St George, Bristol, England in this listener-requested episode.
Thursday, February 19, 2015, started like any other day. Dad, Darren, had left early for work. His wife, Anjie, was getting ready for a doctor’s appointment when their 16-year-old daughter Becky knocked on the door. She was coming home from spending the night at a friend’s house and her key didn't work. Becky went up to her room and was never seen again.
Everyone is stunned when Becky's dismembered body is found close to home. Even more shocking was the person who confessed to her murder.

In the early hours of September 13th, 2016, a woman we will only know as Jane Doe, loosened the clothes that were used to bind her hands and legs, found her captor’s phone, and quietly called 911.
When the 911 dispatcher answered, Jane Doe, whispered that she was lying next to the man that had abducted her and was holding her hostage. When asked if she knew the name of her kidnapper, Jane Doe replied Shawn Grate.
When police interviewed Grate, he confessed to more than just kidnapping.

141. A Dark Love: Columbo Family Murders Oct 13, 2021

It is May 7, 1976 right before 5pm when a stolen car had been located. The car belonged to a man named Frank Columbo who lived in Elk Grove, a suburb of Chicago. Authorities notified the Elk Grove police and asked them to do a welfare check on the Columbo home. When officers entered the home, it was clear that this was much more than a stolen car recovery case. A loving family had been brutally murdered and a neighborhood was scared. The crime would shock everyone but the biggest shock was yet to come.

140. From Debt to Death Row: Maureen "Miki" McDermott Oct 06, 2021

We're are going back to the mid-80s with this case. 1985. Police Academy 2 was a box office smash and holding on to number 1 at the box office for 4 weeks and We Are The World by USA for Africa was the number 1 song. Coca-Cola released New Coke and women’s hair was as high as a stockbroker on Wall Street.
Stephen Eldridge 27year old and 37 years old Maureen “Miki” McDermott were pretty much inseparable from the night they met through mutual friends at a gay bar called In Touch Lounge in Van Nuys, California. Miki was about 10 years older than Stephen but they both were gregarious people and loved being the center of attention.
They were great friends. Well...at least one of them thought so.

138. The Brutal Murder of Celeste Fronsman Sep 22, 2021

Early on a Sunday morning, a man was driving along Ohio Route 208 when he noticed a woman lying in the middle of the road, As he got closer the woman picked herself up and threw herself at the truck begging for help and screaming that somebody was trying to kill her.
The woman was severely burned and covered in scratches from dragging herself a quarter of a mile through branches and undergrowth. The man got out of his truck, laid her down in the grass, and gave her a blanket to cover her naked body before he placed a call to 911.
