Today's episode is a Listener Request! Thanks to Christina Young for her request.
Big thanks to Wondery and The Generation Why Podcast for sponsoring this episode Make sure you go listen to Justin and Aaron. They are amazing.
Down the road from Costco, past the Hobby Lobby, and the Chick-fil-A. stood a home on Knob Hill Drive that was in stark contrast to its surroundings. It was filthy and run-down, with a stench that assaulted people before they even reached the front porch.
Once you made it to the porch, visitors were welcomed with a black door covered with symbols of a skull, crossbones, and an inverted cross. A community watch area sign warned that police were not welcome. “Evil Will Triumph” was written in bold white capital letters.
This was the home of Pazuzu Algarad. A self-proclaimed satanist who filed his teeth to sharp points and drank the blood of animals during the “dark moon.” He allowed—and even encouraged—people to engage in drug use, orgies, and murder, in his own home.
He's also was responsible for the deaths of Joshua Frederick Wetzler and Tommy Dean Welch, along with being convicted for accessory after the fact for the death of Joseph Emmrick Chandler.

    185. Children of Thunder: Cult of Killers Oct 12, 2022
    Show notes

We are headed to a small town named Woodacre which is located right outside of San Francisco, California. It is Marin County which is beautiful if you have never been there, truly postcard pretty. The town is a small community where the center of the action is a bar named The Paper Mill Saloon where the locals meet to catch up and unwind. Bartender Jennifer Villarin worked hard to make all the patrons welcome. It was August 2nd, 2000 and Jim had brought Jenny dinner and Jenny closed up the bar around 11 pm. The two made their way home. It was right around 5 am when the neighborhood heard gunshots ring out. The police were called to the residence and arrived on the scene to discover two people had been shot and killed. The studio apartment was located behind a house, meaning that the killer had to know that an apartment was located. Jim Gamble's body was on the ground next to the bed as if he got out of bed when he was shot. Jenny was in bed. Both had no clothes on. The only evidence that they found was 9 mm-caliber gunshot shells which they believe came from a semi-automatic pistol. Two were used for Jenny and four were used for Jim. The community was in shock as no one could imagine killing this much loved couple. Before all is said and done, there would be five victims and a bizarre tale of worship, fraud and murder.

    183. Little Girls Lost: The Lyon Sisters Sep 28, 2022
    Show notes

It is a parent’s worst nightmare. The abduction of a child is more than traumatic but what if two of your children simply disappeared. That is precisely what happened on March 25, 1975, when 12-year-old Sheila Lyon and her little sister, 10-year-old Katherine departed from their home to walk ½ mile to the local shopping mall in Wheaton, Maryland, a suburb of Washington, DC. The girls made it to the mall but never made it home, they would never be seen again. This case has many twists and turns, but a dogged investigator and his team refused to give up. This is the story of The Lyon Sisters.

    Show notes

Situated in the middle of a wild and beautiful outdoor playground, the town of
Smithers, British Columbia, Canada, rests at the foot of the luminous Hudson Bay
Mountain. The town is located halfway between Prince George and Prince Rupert along
the 450-mile evergreen-lined Highway 16. Currently, most of the inhabitants of Smithers
are of European descent. The First Nations people, notably the Wet’suwet’en, called this land home for thousands of years. Now there are only about 8% of the current population are First Nations people.
And even though the entire area of the Bulkley Valley is untamed, wild, and
peacefully scenic, there is another, darker side of the valley. All along Highway 16 are
billboards with the following warning: Girls Don’t Hitchhike on the Highway of Tears.
    Killer on the Loose.
Ramona Wilson was sixteen and a member of the Gitxsan nation. She was looking forward to going to a dance with several of her friends on a cool and calm evening in June of 1994, but she never made it to the dance. She simply vanished into the inky-blue twilight.
Unfortunately, she's not the only one.

It is Jan. 9, 2002, in Oregon City, Oregon, 12-year-old Ashley Pond left her home to walk to the bus stop for Gardiner Middle School. Ashley was hurrying as she was going to be late and miss the bus stop located approximately 10 minutes from her home. Ashley was popular in school but what she loved most was dance. She was on the school’s dance team, The Fallen Angels. The team would be rehearsing that day for the big competition they had coming up. Since she was late, Ashley started running as she didn’t want to miss school. Little did her loved ones know, that she would never make it to the bus nor arrive at school. Ashley simply disappeared and she would not be the only one.

Back in 2018, we covered this case with our first episode of The 12 Nightmares Before Christmas. It is the most infamous unsolved murder in the state of Missouri. The case is open, and the child's identity is still unknown.
It was February 1983 when two men entered the basement of 5635 Clemens Avenue, a derelict and vacant apartment building in northwest St. Louis, and stumble upon a grisly scene that would haunt the authorities and the community for years.
The 40th year anniversary is upon us, and a St. Louis local is fighting to get St Louis’ Jane Doe, known as Precious Hope, not only her name but the justice she deserves.
Listen now on this special Our True Crime Podcast episode as we speak to Edrar ‘Bird’ Sosa, director of the documentary “Our Previous Hope Revisited: St Louis’ Jane Doe,” which is premiering on Amazon Prime on September 15, 2022.

    179. Fighting for Katie Palmer: An Interview with John Palmer Aug 24, 2022
    Show notes

Earlier this month, Cam and Jen sat down with John Palmer and discussed the tragic accident that took his wife Katie's life.
April 21st, 2020, in Denison, Texas, situated on the border of Oklahoma. Thirty-eight-year-old Katie Palmer decided to take an early morning walk with her husband, John Palmer, hoping to see the nesting spot for a bird known as a killdeer.
As the couple was returning home, they walked along Glenwood Drive at 7:45 A.M, on the left-hand side, facing the traffic, as pedestrians are supposed to do in Texas. Glenwood Drive also did not have dividing paint lines; it’s just an open road where drivers know to stay on their side. It’s wide, it’s flat, and there is nothing on it to hinder a person’s view. The sightline is over 600 feet, and the maximum speed limit is 30 miles per hour.
About 1/5th of a mile from their home, a Ford F-250 pickup truck crossed from the right-hand side of the road to the left-hand side of the road and struck Katie and John as they were walking. The vehicle struck Katie and Josh with such force that it knocked them out of their shoes. Katie landed 75 feet away, and John landed 70 feet away. For a little context, 75 feet is equivalent to the height of a six to seven-story building. Katie wouldn't survive.
The driver of the truck, a neighbor named Cory Foster, has a driving record filled with DUIs, speeding, and reckless driving, yet he was able to walk away from this scot-free.
Everything about Katie's case has been mishandled. Trust us, it will get your blood boiling.
Thank you to John Palmer for coming to the show. We know the road to justice is exhausting, but we will stand beside you in your journey and fight.

    178. Hiding in Plain Sight: Henry Wallace Aug 17, 2022
    Show notes

As little kids, we are scared of monsters and things that go bump in the night. We hear stories about big scary, hairy creatures that would get you if you weren’t being good. But what if the monster was nothing like that, what if they were kind and helpful. What if they were your good friend? What if the monster was hiding in plain sight?
