Meet the Feebles 1989 Vintage Cinema Review - Old Man Orange Podcast 610 Oct 01, 2024

Show notes

Talking all about the puppet filled, hard drama comedy from Peter Jackson back in 1989, Meet the Feebles. Joined this episode with my good ole pal, Dave Candito who I've been meaning to get on the podcast for years. Well, we go deep into this fun filled ride, that is like a dark and twisted version of the Muppets. Straight outta New Zealand with all kinds of zany characters that you might find in any theater troop, yet turned up to 11 and in the form of animal puppets. Definitely not a movie you can show to anyone but that is truly what makes it special. Either you are in or you are out.

Scarface 1932 Vintage Cinema Review - Old Man Orange Podcast 608 Aug 20, 2024

Show notes

Today I am joined again with a classic guest from back in the podcast day, Brent from his own movie fueled show, Home Video Hustle to talk all about the original 1932 Scarface film. You probably know the classic 1983 Al Pacino, Oliver Stone, and Brian De Palma Miami Gangster classic of the same name, but not many have seen the classic prohibition era take. From Howard Hughes and Directed by Howard Hawks. Staring Paul Muni with Ann Dvorak, Osgood Perkins, and Boris Karloff. We go back in time, almost a hundred years to a pre Hayes Code era film of action packed violence, scenery chewing acting, and a solid story that always holds up fine. We get distracted along the way talking old school WWF and WCW, Resident Evil, couch co-op games, and a ton on just movies in general. Some that relate, like the Scarface video game on Wii, PS2, and Xbox and then some just of the rails tangents to no mans land. All in good fun.

So, come on by and join us on another adventure of OMO Podcast.

Be sure to take a listen to the Home Video Hustle Podcast from Brent. It's in a very similar vein to OMO and Via VHS from a man who loves movies almost more that we do. - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCfN67zqLBcbJNJw1cHI0Hlw

Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Park - Vintage Cinema Review - Old Man Orange Podcast 607 Aug 08, 2024

Show notes

We are going back to good ole 1978 to check out, for the first time strangely enough. The Hanna Barbera made for NBC TV film, Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Park on a Vintage Cinema Review show. I'm joined with my good pal, Buddy Corley as we sit outside in the mountains on a nice warm summer day to discuss this epic film. Something that we have talked about doing for a good long while and a movie we both had yet to actually see, even though we are huge Kiss fans for many years.

Fun times were had in a classic watch, then review old school podcast. Seeing the nostalgic look of the Six Flags Magic Mountain Theme Park. Which has always been a big deal for us in California and I believe with many other states. That was the whole cross country journey location for Walley World in National Lampoon's Vacation. Here you get an awesome old school 70s Kiss concert in the park. Interesting song choices, hilarious dialogue, and a much different main villain than expected from the title. It's not a great movie by any means, but it is still fun, goofy, and something of rock and roll history to be experienced for sure. I feel that Kiss and Scooby Doo Animated Movie that came out a few years back was a retake of attempting this flick once more.

Rolling Thunder 1977 Rewind Review - OMOP Presents Via VHS Podcast Jul 26, 2024

Show notes

Bringing you another out of the vault, off the rarity's album episode of Via VHS on OMO Presents with a classic, rewind review.

We are going back to 1977 for the pure amazing experience of Rolling Thunder! A gritty action, revenge flick in a return from Vietnam style. Directed by John Flynn of The Outfit and Out for Justice. Written by Paul Schrader of Taxi Driver, Yakuza, and Raging Bull along with Heywood Gould doing a punch up 2nd take. Staring William Devane, Linda Haynes, and a very young yet extremely memorable Tommy Lee Jones. This movie is about as pure perfect as a film can be in my book. Everything is firing on all cylinders. Characters are great, action is brutal, the story is intense, and the real world grit just makes it all that more thrilling. One of those movies that Quinten Tarantino and Eli Roth have always recommended and for damn good reason.

Heavyweights Rewind Review - OMOP Presents Via VHS Podcast Jul 24, 2024

Show notes

Bringing you another out of the vault, off the rarity's album episode of Via VHS on OMO Presents with a classic, rewind review.

This time we are talking the ultra classic fat kid summer camp flick of 1995's Heavyweights. Directed by Steven Brill and Written by an early days Judd Apatow. Back when Disney made good edgy kids comedies. This is also when Ben Stiller was playing all the intense bad guy rolls, here he's the megalomaniac fitness entrepreneur that is putting together a fitness program to sell off about these kids quick weight loss regiment. Also featuring a pre Kenan and Kel Nickelodeon days, Kenan Thompson. Hilarious good time fun all around in this classic 1995 film. A classic 90s flick from our generation for sure.

Dazed and Confused Rewind Review - OMOP Presents Via VHS Jul 22, 2024

Show notes

Bringing you another out of the vault, off the rarity's album episode of Via VHS on OMO Presents with a classic, rewind review.

This time we are going back in time to two eras. 1993 when this movie was made and 1976 when the film takes place. Dazed and Confused, the all time classic hang out picture that just makes you want to be there on that end of school, start of summer vacation night. It's like the 70s version of American Graffiti and filled with probably one of the top tier soundtracks of all time. I know I watched the living daylights out of this movie in the past, especially during my high school years. Richard Linklater the director and writer captures the magic of that pocket era that is still relatable to this day, even if it is now almost a half century back. Weird to think about it that way. This film also introduced tons of later day big stars, like Matthew McConaughey, Ben Affleck, Joey Lauren Adams, Milla Jovovich, and Parker Posey to name a few.
