    After nearly two decades of being homeless and at one point living in LA's infamous Skid Row Khadijah Williams was accepted into Harvard University where she graduate in 2013. Her incredible story of living on the streets to graduating from an Ivy League school has been profiled by Oprah and other national news outlets. As the Senior Education Organizer at DC's Rocketship Public Schools the homeless youth advocate is now using her voice and experience to grow engagement between schools and the families of vulnerable youth. She shares why representation is not enough and how important it is for people of color to be included at the decision making level when it comes to education.

    EPISODE 65: Smithsonian Reopens; Connects Public to Asian American History May 28, 2021

    After being closed for months during the pandemic the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History has reopened. Some of it's newest acquisitions include George Washington's tea chest from China and the blue gown from 'Crazy Rich Asians'. They are among several objects on display that tell the ever changing Asian American story and struggle in the US. Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders have played key roles in shaping America's past in work, culture, politics and entertainment. Recently Angie joined a group of scholars, advocates and curators for a special night of sharing stories and amazing artifacts that can now be seen at the American History Museum. This week's show is an excerpt from the Smithsonian program.

Before she sold her cosmetic company (she started in her small LIVING ROOM!) to L'Oreal for $1.2 billion dollars cash Jamie was a local TV reporter struggling with a sensitive skin issue.     62. THE HATE VIRUS: Governor Larry Hogan's Family open up about surge of Asian-American attacks May 05, 2021

    Covid 'hate crimes' against Asian Americans continue to rise. New analysis found a 164% increase in reports of anti-Asian hate crimes in the first quarter of 2021 compared with the same period last year. In this episode, Angie and her parents head to Annapolis Maryland to join Governor Larry Hogan, his wife Yumi and daughter Jaymi Sterling for a candid conversation being Asian American in America. Like Angie's mom Yumi Hogan is a first generation Korean American. The Hogan's talk about about feeling the impact of the anti-Asian hate during the pandemic. Both families open up about personal and painful experiences. They discuss why this racism may be hard for others to see and how to engage in dialogue and activism to help a community that is really scared right now and hurting.
