"Let Them Have Dominion" Dec 10, 2020
    Show notes

Looking back at the creation of man, we see God’s purposes and plan for each gender. These purposes help us function as image-bearers of God. In this episode, Brody specifically spoke to men about what the Lord has created them for. In the Garden of Eden, God blessed man by giving him responsibility. Then, man rejected that responsibility. God created us to work, lead well, and to have dominion. Brody walks through three areas of responsibility and his thoughts on dominion.

Back in the Garden, the serpent tempted the desires of man's heart to establish his own authority. Now, men struggle to lead their families well and submit themselves to the Lord.

Men—we need to humble ourselves before the Lord and allow Him to lead us. Let’s look to Jesus because he is the ultimate example of humility for us. Even Jesus didn’t count equality with God something to hold onto.

The dominion we’re striving for is spiritual dominion. We’re no longer enslaved to sin but at war with it. Man could not maintain dominion, so God sent us a Savior who can. Jesus conquered through death what we couldn’t conquer through life. Fight sin today and do not lose heart. Be the men, husbands, dads, brothers, and friends God has called you to be.

Expositional Preaching in the Local Church Dec 07, 2020
    Show notes

Expositional preaching is one of the pillars we stand on at Snowbird. There are many different styles of preaching, and everyone has their preference. No matter what style people use, there is a right and a wrong way to preach. In this episode, Brody discusses what expository preaching is and why it’s so important to the local church. We need to look at what Scripture says about preaching and be faithful to preach the Word rightly. God gave His Word to man as a revelation of Himself and His plans.

The number one priority of the pastor is to be preaching the Word of God to the church. This is the most valuable way to grow and strengthen the church. Let the main point of the text be the main point of the sermon and keep the gospel at the center. Having faithful expository preaching creates expository listeners. Let’s be faithful listeners and teachers and handle His Word well.

    10 Distinctives of a Healthy Church Dec 03, 2020
    Show notes

A question we get asked a lot is at what point should you leave your church. No church is perfect and we need to be believers who show grace towards that.

But there is a point when major issues in leadership or doctrine should cause you to leave a church. If something in the body of Christ needs to be addressed, then we have a responsibility to address it. It’s vital to belong to a church that rightly handles the Word of God with fear and trembling. In this episode, Brody walks through 10 distinctives of a healthy church. He highlights standards that church members should hold when evaluating their church or looking for a church.

No church will get all these distinctives perfect. We need to ask ourselves how we can be a positive voice in the church and not be focused on what we can complain about. Love the church and do your part to make it better. We hope you can use this as a helpful guideline to consider the health of your church.

Beyond the Flannelgraph | The Life of Daniel Nov 30, 2020
    Show notes

Today Brody jumped back into our Beyond the Flannelgraph series and walked through the life of Daniel. We’re called to be a light in the darkness of this world, and Daniel is someone we can look to as an example. When you face trials in your life, remember that the Lord will use those trials to bring you closer to Him. Every generation of believers has gone through difficulties. Long before the time of Jesus, people joyfully endured persecution based on the fact that Jesus was coming.
We have been given a better hope. We have an empty tomb and a better salvation. Have confidence that God will give us the faith to stand firm just as He did for those before us. Hold fast to the promises of God and endure the hard times.

    Why I'm Thankful for 2020 Nov 26, 2020
    Show notes

Happy Thanksgiving! 2020 has been a little crazy. So, Brody used this episode to outline things that he is personally thankful for right now. We can be thankful that God is not only the author of this life but the next.

So let’s give thanks. There’s a lot we can be thankful for right now even in this crazy time.
Many of us have so much to worry about, but let’s set this aside today and enjoy the goodness of the Lord. Taste and see that the Lord is good!
“The worst day in this life will give way to a perfect and perpetual, eternal kingdom with God in heaven with Jesus forever.”

Wrapping up CRT with the Holloway Adoption Story Nov 23, 2020
    Show notes

These past few episodes have been a little heavy, so we wanted to wrap things up a little with some personal stories. We want to be a church, a people, a ministry, that encourages and loves people well. Our hope that people understand that at the end of the day we just want people to understand the love of God and be changed by the power of the Gospel.

When God rescues us, He lifts us out of the darkness and brings us into the Kingdom with His Son. He gives us a new name and a new heart. We are made sons and daughters in the Kingdom.

So now, let’s get busy loving our community with the same eternal hope. The opportunities are there you just have to look. Get involved as a church. Countless needs surround us concerning fostering and adoption. Invest in young teens.

Be the hands and feet of Jesus right now, in your community.

A Biblical Understanding of Woke Culture, White Privilege, & BLM Nov 19, 2020
    Show notes

This episode wraps up our 3-part series on critical race theory (CRT) and intersectionality. Brody, Zach Carter, and Zach Mabry sat down and took time to discuss and define the topics of “woke” and “white privilege”. What is happening in the culture today is wrong.

Believers, we need to remind ourselves that the Lord will bring justice to every wrong that has been done. God is the one who vindicates wrong and we can trust that. Our job is to tell people the Truth and work to ensure just laws come into place. Christians should be alleviating the material sufferings of those around us. Let’s weep with them, mourn with them, acknowledge that this is sin, and tell the truth about it.

It is dangerous for the Christian to be pressing into this ideology of CRT and intersectionality. We already have a mission and a command to take part in the work of building the Kingdom. The things of this world are vapor. The world doesn’t need more people setting low bars. We need something that transcends this world. One day God will make everything right again. The culture is asking the questions, so we need to answer them. The world doesn't know why these things are happening but they can acknowledge that the current order is not right. The Gospel is the answer.

If you believe in Heaven then you can wait for God’s good justice to come. It is not our job to pick up the sword and think that we can make it right on this earth. While you wait, meet the material needs that you can and be faithful to proclaim the hope that you have.

Is Intersectionality a Useful Tool for Christians? Nov 18, 2020
    Show notes

In this second episode on CRT and intersectionality, Brody, Zach Carter, and Zach Mabry walk through the dangers of using intersectionality as an analytical tool. This theory allows for the most oppressed voice to be heard as a standard for everyone. This puts people playing the role of God and calling the shots. Believers, the Bible is sufficient. We don’t have to go outside of Scripture to find answers to the most important questions. The Word of God gives us what we need.

We are called to live in submission to the authority of Scripture and listen to and follow the guidance of the Holy Spirit. The problem we face is spiritual, and the Gospel of Jesus is our answer. God has created a standard for our source of knowledge and right understanding in the world. We know what we know based on God who revealed Himself to us through: (1) the incarnation of Christ and (2) the Bible, His written Word.

We need to remember that the Gospel is the hope and the answer for our world. We need to better understand these issues so we can articulate them with believers and nonbelievers. Christians are called to inform and shed the light on sin. We can’t be afraid to do this. It’s our job to proclaim true redemption.

What is Critical Race Theory & How Christians Should View It Nov 16, 2020
    Show notes

Critical race theory (CRT) and intersectionality are complicated and can be intimidating to understand. More clarity is needed to understand the danger of CRT and the whole-scale acceptance of it, not just in the secular world but also in the church.

For this episode, Brody sat down with Zach Carter and Zach Mabry to discuss these topics and bring awareness to the core issues. Christians must always evaluate these conversations through the lens of Scripture.

Scripture has given us everything we need to interpret the world around us. We live in a world that is sinful and has been damaged by the fall. Because of our sinful nature, the world doesn’t view human beings the way the Bible views them.
Believers, we can’t surrender the values of the Church and then pick up the world’s tools to do our work. This episode will be the first of a 3-part series to educate ourselves and other believers on the dangers of CRT and how we should confront it.

The Role of The Holy Spirit in Our Lives Nov 12, 2020
    Show notes

When we see a fellow believer fall into sin and shame, the body of Christ feels that too. We feel the gravity of their guilt, brokenness, and self-condemnation. We should long to see other believers have victory in their sin and come along-side them to push them back toward Christ. This is what the Holy Spirit does for us. He is able to identify and sympathize with our weaknesses. Jesus gave us His Spirit so that He’s always with us, ready to help us at any time.

During this episode, Brody discusses the role of the Holy Spirit in our lives. In Christ, we have an advocate who feels for us, hurts for us, and sympathizes with us. This is a powerful picture that shows us how we’re linked to God and have His dwelling in us, feeling the weight of our sin. His Spirit comes alongside us by picking us up to carry the weight of our sin. Believers, we should be encouraged and comforted by this truth. Remember that you have the Helper living inside of you, advocating for you as a comforter and a companion.
