134. NFT Alpha Groups: The Truth and Value Behind Them Mar 25, 2022

In this ever-changing NFT space there is a desire to be in the know of everything that's happening from upcoming mints to project giveaways to getting on whitelists..

Alpha groups or private communities have emerged ranging from a private Twitter dm group to a whatsapp chat to full discords where you pay to join and they share all of that information only for those inside the circle.

As with most emerging trends and even in the crypto space this is nothing new and I'm a fan of finding that circle of friends or people you trust to help scale, save time and hopefully share resources and helping us all grow together.

But there is also a downside of these groups both from a mass adoption perspective but also from an individual collector perspective where I've seen friends get involved in some groups that caused them to start buying into projects nd making decisions that were outside of their norm and in many ways risking all they had in the name of these groups.

I wanted to shed light on some of the things to be aware of and some of the good and also bad that can happen with the good ole boys, inner circle or cool kids clubs that can hurt not only those involved but the projects they are involved in and the NFT community as a whole. The more I start to assess the last couple of days of my wallets being exploited and conversations with OpenSea and Metamask and the lack of control or innovation available in today's NFT marketplaces, including Looks Rare.

IT hit me that as much as we talk about centralization vs decentralization and we talk about this NFT space valuing speculation and FOMO. The place we should be focusing on isn't the metaverse or the next coolest utility to come rather identifying the basics that work and finding new ways to improve them. The question I have is how can we help empower collaboration and co-creation if while trying to control how and where NFTs innovate.

How do we focus only on decentralization vs centralization when really there is going to be a hybrid world of Web 2.0 and Web 3.0 that isn't linked to either as far as innovation and barriers to entry.. 130. Nine ETH worth of NFTs Were Stolen But I Wasn't Hacked Mar 21, 2022

Yes, I had 9 ETH worth of NFTs stolen from my wallet last night!!! (4 NFTs from two wallets)

But I wasn't hacked rather I believe exploited due to a browser extension I had installed on Chrome called "one Tab"

Here's a review of what happened and what we know as of right now and how I believe my actions once I learned I was hacked prevented them from getting the 300+ NFTs in that wallet.

I wasn't practicing what I preach in the 3x3x3 episode only because I'm buying an NFT every day and researching NFTs for 4 hours a day but I also don't know that doing things differently would have prevented this exploit but on this episode, I do my best to share the situation and my role/responsibility in being the one that transferred the NFTs away and I will have to do my best to find a better solution to prevent this in the future.

I also believe we are a community that must work with these tools to come up with solutions that don't prevent decentralization but do enable AI or processes to prevent known behaviors from allowing these things to happen without any way of stopping them.

129. NFT Collecting: The Right or Wrong Way Mar 20, 2022

I asked this question to a group of friends in San Diego last week that would be considered “NFT Whales” holding in many cases 20 to 100 NFTs of multiple projects with heavy 6 or 7 figures in NFTs.

Would you rather hold 1 “Blue Chip” NFT project or 5 NFT projects that add up to the same floor as that 1 blue chip?

As you’ll hear on this episode of the podcast the answer to the question is less what I was going for rather I wanted to explore the different approaches we can have to how many projects we own, how many of each project we own as there is no right or wrong answer to the question.

I also explore the old narrative of:

Do you go deep rather than wide

Go wide rather than deep

I will say by the end of this episode even my take on this topic shift a bit as I just love that we can have a different approach for each project we buy or each time of the year or maybe even each kind of NFT project and the beauty is we should be ok with that which makes this NFT space more exciting than anything else I’ve ever been involved with.

128. Will $APE Coin Inspire Copycats or Trend Setters? Mar 19, 2022

The long-awaited $APE coin from Yuga Labs, the parent company of Bored Ape Yacht Club, was dropped this week. No doubt it sent shock waves thru the NFT community combined with the metaverse trailer titled "the otherwise" is the biggest news since well the week before when they bought CryptoPunks and Meebits.

For those holding any of the NFTs in the Yuga Labs portfolio, I want to give a huge congratulations too, as many people were rewarded for being loyal since the jump and able for the first time to take profits.

For the rest of us to fall into the "Must Be Nice" feeling of jealousy. Still, I refused to go there as I believe the more success today's blue-chip projects have, the better it will be for all of the other NFT projects already released and yet to release.

But there are many lessons that can be learned from massive explosions into an early adoption market.

As the copycats will come out of the woodwork, there is no doubt we will see lots of projects dropping their own coins over the next couple of months and even more looking at the combo of a coin + metaverse announcement as a smart move and do that themselves.

But we must go deeper with our data and research because if this is a new trend, we must understand all of the variables that make this trend successful. After all, if it's just about the vanity or the high-level (Coin + metaverse), it will be a copycat play and fail.

One of the most interesting aspects of buying an NFT every day for a year is the need for us to evolve and adapt our criteria based on the industry but also based on the changing demands of owners and NFT project trends.

The thing that has struck me the most recently is trying to understand the project's plan for handling, creating and building on MOMENTUM.
