In this series of Neon Galactic interviews, KEET-TV attended the 2024 Contact in the Desert event in Indian Wells, CA, to chat with several folks who represent the leading edge of radical thinking in the subjects of artificial intelligence, NHI, UFOs, and more. This is Part II of four interviews conducted at the event, which was held between May 30 and June 3 of 2024. Anthony Peake has written a number of books dealing with a range of topics that challenge preconceived and materialistic notions of reality. His wide expertise and deep thinking merge concepts and details from a number of sources to produce a uniquely pragmatic and sensible approach to the existential questions and conundrums facing humanity. With early sources and influences ranging from "The Sky People" by Brinsley Le Poer Trench and British series "Man Myth and Magic," to Jacques Vallee’s "Passport to Magonia" and John Keel’s "Operation Trojan Horse," Peake from the beginning was an avid intellectual explorer who sought to push boundaries and make sense of the universe. While his early career focused on economics, the sociology of religion, and Italian Renaissance art, by the year 2000 he’d decided to focus on putting much of what he’d learned and come to believe into book form, in what later became his first volume, “Cheating the Ferryman.” It was a distillation of all his areas of interest, quantum physics, neurology, ancient myths, altered-states of consciousness and the mystery of death. Thanks to the help of Professor Bruce Greyson of the University of Virginia, an article based upon Peake’s “Cheating the Ferryman” hypothesis was to appear in the Winter 2004 edition of the Journal of Near-Death Studies, the academic periodical of the International Association of Near-Death Studies (IANDS). A few months later, in early 2005, British publishing house Arcturus bought the rights to the book and, a year later, and after a substantial re-write, it was published as, “Is There Life After Death – The Extraordinary Science of What Happens When We Die.” More than 60,000 copies have since been sold, and the volume has been translated into various foreign language editions including Spanish, Russian and Polish. In this conversation, we discuss Peake’s notions of the human soul and how every conscious being has two abiding centers of identity within, a daemon that represents the being’s higher self – which transcends and unites our earthly incarnations – and an avatar-like personality that is bound to only one life cycle. We also discuss Peake’s conception of reincarnation, and the presence in this universe of egregorials, creations of consciousness that over time can gain the autonomy and power to manifest independently of their creators. In this episode of Neon Galactic, co-host Dr. Chris Avis and I interview Dr. Pamela Kryskow and Graham Walker from Roots To Thrive, an innovative Canadian therapy program that deploys visionary psychedelic medicine to address a range of ailments. According to its website, Roots To Thrive describes itself as a living curriculum that is designed to reconnect humanity to its true nature, to each other, and to all that is. “From this secure and embodied place, we remember who we are, the abundance of resources around us, and our innate capacity for healing,” it reads. In this episode, we interview Italian author, occultist and teacher Marco Visconti about the nature of magick, the universe, and the efficacy of spiritual technologies. Visconti is an expert in the field of occult studies and magic, focusing on Alistair Crowley's Thelema, and we discuss his recent book, "The Aleister Crowley Manual: Thelemic Magick for Modern Times," as well as the difficulty finding good spiritual teachers in an age dominated by materialism and reductivity. Visconti has made a career out of bringing folks into the magickal fold and helping them develop their super rational talents. He has been initiated into Argenteum Astrum and Ordo Templi Orientis, although he is no longer a member of the latter organization. He describes the nature of such associations, and the difficulties inherent in such collective pursuits. He also describes his work on a new book, focusing on the nature of the Holy Guardian Angel in Thelemic rites and traditions. Author, experiencer, and host of her own podcast, Earth: A Love Story, Robin Lassiter in this interview shares her wisdom and insight surrounding the presence and nature of non-human intelligences and their seemingly deep interest in human affairs. We focus on her book, Earth: A Love Story, a powerfully told memoir of magic, suffering, addiction, family, mother nature, identity formation, and spiritual becoming that unfolds amid the presence of other intelligences and seemingly discarnate beings. From the Colorado mountains to California and beyond, the book describes how Lassiter experienced the mythic potential of the world from an early age, and how that sensitivity to life and pain and possibility would later both cause her trouble and save her life. Due to a tenuous ZOOM connection, the video in this episode is occasionally glitchy, but the conversation was so fascinating and important I posted it anyway. The discussion is clear and intelligible. In this chat, Dr. Jack Hunter and I discuss the nature of the paranormal, and the ways in which Academia has embraced the topic, and the ways in which it has failed to engaged with its more challenging aspects. Through the lens of such disciplines as ecology and anthropology, a coherent understanding of the paranormal is possible if difficult to pin down. Hunter has made a career out of engaging with these topics, and in refusing to be reductive about the complexities involved. His recent book, "Deep Weird," focuses in particular on those occurrences that fall outside mainstream categories by virtue of their strangeness. Hunter argues that it's that complexity that can likely tell us the most about what we're encountering. All aspects should be embraced and analyzed, not ignored or ridiculed according to operative prejudices and intellectual laziness. We explore his experiences with the spiritual realm through early research around spiritualists and mediums, events that challenged his world view and pushed him into a process of what he calls "ontological flooding," where the possible explanations for various phenomenon multiply and refuse simple or trite resolutions. This straddling of ontologies and explanations is one key to gaining a global perspective, he believes. Hunter is known for exploring the borderlands of consciousness, religion, ecology and the paranormal. He is an Honorary Research Fellow with the Alister Hardy Religious Experience Research Center, and a tutor with the Sophia Center for the Study of Cosmology in Culture, University of Wales Trinity St David. In this episode, we have a fascinating discussion with former Blondie bassist and philosopher Gary Lachman, whose lengthy bibliography as an esotericist and researcher covers an assortment of mystical movements and characters that together define an ancient -- yet surprisingly modern -- mode of thinking. Lachman describes how he made the transformation from rock star to underground intellectual after years of wandering in the so-called wilderness. Through the work of British writer and social critic Colin Wilson, Lachman was inspired to engage with occulted mysteries and research the strange and fascinating phenomenon in his own life, including a lifelong series of precognitive dreams. While he initially intended to teach philosophy after retiring from the music industry, he later found Academia stifling, and turned his attention to writing about our weird and wonderful universe after working at a famous metaphysical bookshop in the Los Angeles area. We talk about the evolution of human consciousness, as laid out in the work of German philosopher Jean Gebser, and how that process of evolution involves both the construction of something new and the destruction of older forms. We also discuss likely ontologies that can accommodate high strangeness, and what individual people can do to help encourage humanity's collective evolution. Lachman also describes how the occult is alive and well in modern society, explaining how Donald Trump and his allies deployed such methodologies to help get him elected, and how Pepe the Frog is an example of such efforts. In this episode, we interview Professor Jeffrey Kripal about the nature of transcendent experiences, visionary encounters, UFO sightings, and more, examining how these various phenomena challenge humanity's operative worldview and push boundaries. Because they don't fit, they are either neglected or ignored. Kripal is the J. Newton Rayzor Professor of Religion at Rice University, and has for years been an advocate of taking such experiences seriously, and on their own terms. We discuss his book, "The Flip," and how the intellectual and psychological transformation described in those pages is happening more and more frequently to a broad number of people, but particularly to scientists. Many of humanity's greatest thinkers and innovators, both in the past and presently, believed themselves to be in contact with non-human intelligences. We talk about the nature of these intelligences, the nature of humanity, and how one seems to invariably reflect the other. Other questions we explore: How do the humanities fit into a reinvigorated study of the strange and seemingly impossible? How do we think about such things when our cultural authorities keep telling us they're necessarily nonsense? What do these experiences say about both the witnesses and whatever it is that we're encountering? Also, has our current secular, materialist worldview contributed to the problems we're now facing across the globe, and what can be done to fix these issues? In this episode, we speak with author and expert Mitch Horowitz to explore the realms of esotericism, hermetica and the occult, while also attempting to understand how these worlds intersect with ufology and the broader search for NHI. Are they different ways of trying to describe the same reality? Horowitz explains how he views reality, and how that view includes an invisible, nonmaterial realm that parallels our own. We discuss the limits of physicalism as an ontology, and the progress being made in science and elsewhere to flip that script and achieve a new consensus around a more complicated, post-material worldview. In this episode, author and researcher Mike Clelland describes how his years and years of research have yielded a huge number of stories that link sightings of owls with UFOs, NHI, synchronicities, death, and spiritual awakening. Culled from his own life and those of countless witnesses, these tales of connection run the gamut from merely odd sightings of animals to hugely transformative mystical experiences that point to a deeper, and largely unknown, facet of reality. Clelland describes how he felt compelled to write his book, "The Messengers," after a series of seemingly inexplicable events came together in a way that silenced his inner skeptic and convinced him that reality is much deeper and more mysterious than we pretend. According to his research, the owl can be a symbol that serves to unlock human consciousness and lift day-to-day experience into a realization of the transcendent. It often alerts witnesses and contactees to the fact of their interaction with The Other, and is consistently sighted at moments of profound and personal meaning.
