    Struggling to find time to get alone with God every morning? You aren’t the only one. We’re the Alessi sisters – Stephanie, Gaby, Richelle and Lauren – and this is the My Morning Devotional podcast. We set out to produce short daily devotionals we like to call a Daily Dose of Heaven.     Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we read out of Jeremiah 31:3 which says "the Lord appeared to him from far away. I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you."
    "Today’s devotional was prompted from the thought, “I am Loved”. It’s an affirmation I like to repeat often. It’s so easy to get overwhelmed in our season that we feel inadequate or as if we aren’t good enough for where God has us,.

    Maybe you are in school, or maybe you are helping raise your children’s children. Our ages may differ but the feeling of inadequacy can paralyze us at anytime.

    This verse is saying that he has loved us with an everlasting love. One that transcends age, experience, or adequacy. He is faithful. We are loved.

    The Bible says we are fearfully and wonderfully made. It says we are a new creation in Christ. It says that He so loved the world He gave is only son. It says, we are loved unconditionally. So on this Tuesday I am going to choose to bask in the love God grants us. I am going to sit in His faithfulness. I am going to put on the posture of gratitude and I hope that you do too.

    Repeat after me, I am Loved. I am Loved. I am Loved. Boys, this is for you too. Repeat after me, I am loved."

    Loving the GOAT Feb 04, 2021

    Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we read out of 1 Samuel 16:7 which says "But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”

    "So as we dive deeper into Love and what it means and how we can choose to do so, we have to think. How do we LOVE God?

    If we fall short, and we know we are not perfect how can we show such a perfect creator the love He deserves?

    I know the scriptures are clear. We are to live a life modeled after Jesus’ example. We should study His way. Study how He would enter rooms, read on when He spoke and understand the words He used. Why did He carry so much authority? Why did He ask some to follow and others to stay behind Etc. There is so much to learn.

    So that brings us back to the original question, how can we love God? I think that is where today’s verse comes to play. We need to understand that God has patience, He extends us Grace, so in return we should work on our hearts. Following His word. Really living a life like Jesus did. Serving his children, extending kindness. Becoming the very thing that is missing in the world.

    Our hearts say much more about our motives than any other words or even actions that we may produce. He knows when we do things out of vanity. The best way we can love Him is to humble ourselves and truly serve Him.

    Don't serve money, don't serve social media, don't serve the world, serve Him. "

    The Answer is Grace Feb 02, 2021

    Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we read out of Romans 11:6 which says "But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works; otherwise grace would no longer be grace."
    "Welcome to day two, on our study about Love. Today I wanted to prompt the question, “How does Jesus love us?” The Answer is Grace.

    Grace is what sets God apart from us. It’s what makes Him so great. He grants us Grace.

    Think about the amount of effort it goes into forgiving someone when they’ve offended you.

    Imagine a time when someone hurt you. When that happens your immediate response is to either respond out of anger or the “I’m going to forgive them but I don’t need that person in my life” and while those are perfectly human approaches, God is so different.

    There is never a second guess, he gives us yet another chance.

    We will always fall short. We will never be perfect. We can’t, we are flawed. We can study Jesus and really model our lives after Him, but what makes Him different is simple. He extends us Grace. Everlasting, never failing, grace. Every single time we mess up, he extends grace.

    This verse is beautiful, his love has nothing to do with our capabilities. It has everything to do with his Grace for if it’s not about His grace, then what would we even need grace for."

    What is Love? Feb 01, 2021

    Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we read out of 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 which says "Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away."
    "Storge is the empathy bond. Liking someone because of your similarities, familiarity, otherwise found of each other because you’ve been bonded by chance. It’s a strong kind of love. Like the love you may feel for your family members. An example is the natural love and affection of a parent for their child. It is described as the most natural, emotive, and widely diffused of loves.

    Philia, is the friend bond. Lewis describes it as one of the most beautiful and powerful kinds loves to exist because it’s freely chosen. He notes that friendship in the modern world is often overlooked. But it should be noted how powerful it truly is. Think about how much love goes into a relationship when you get to pick the people you want to have around you.

    Eros is the romantic kind of love. The feeling of loving someone or being in love. Its beautiful as God designed us to marry and build a family. But it can be dangerous too, as you can turn someone into a god. Anyone who’s had a toxic ex knows exactly what that may feel like.

    The final kind of love, is Agape love, or unconditional love. This is the love God has for us. Unconditional and never changing. No matter what we do, His love for us will never cease. This is the hardest one for us to understand, because it is nearly impossible for us to feel this. We can get angry at others, turn away from them when we do not agree with their choices, but God doesn’t. He can’t. Because His love for us is Agape love. It’s the greatest of the four, the most powerful, and you’ve been given this kind of love."

    Get Some Rest Jan 29, 2021

    Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we read out of Mark 6:31 which says "Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.”

    "As we prepare for the weekend ahead of us, it is vital that we carve time out to unplug and find rest in Him. Find a quiet place and play some soft music. Instrumental music if you can, and talk to him. Paint, or mold clay, read a book do something that will take minimal effort but it will allow you to remove yourself from the noise of this world.

    I love that Jesus instructed those who did not have a chance to eat to go with him by themselves to a quiet place to get rest. It’s no coincidence that they couldn’t eat. I said this the other day, in our physical world we need food to survive. But in the spirit, we need to find quiet alone time with Jesus to thrive.

    I hope we all get some much needed rest this weekend."

    Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we read out of 1 Peter 4:11 which says "If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen"
    "We are peacemakers. Meaning when we speak, we do so as one who speaks the very words of God. Jesus was known as the Prince of Peace. He was peace, His very essence was peace. Peace means, listening without imposing personal opinion. It means, serving without selfish ambition.

    This is what this verse is saying. When we speak we must do so as if God himself were speaking. When we serve we shall do so by His strength. This way everywhere we go, and in everything we do, people should feel something different about you.

    They should ask themselves “Why are they so graceful? Why do they help others? What makes them so joyful” Everything we do should be so intertwined with the way Jesus lived, that it would be no surprise when someone asks if you believe in Jesus."

    "In Psalm 107:2 it reads: Let the redeemed of the Lord tell their story—

    those he redeemed from the hand of the foe,

    The affirmation here is that we are Redeemed. “I am redeemed” We no longer serve the hand of the enemy, of the world.

    Ephesians 6:10 says “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.”

    Affirmation: I am Strong in the Lord

    Romans 8:37 reads “No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.”

    Affirmation: I am more than a conqueror.

    1 John 4:4 reads “You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world”

    Affirmation: I am an Overcomer"

    Power From Above, Power Within Jan 26, 2021

    Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we read out of Ephesians 3:16 which says "16 I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being"
    "We all have an inner man, the spirit that lives within our hearts. And Just as we eat in the physical world to give us strength for the day ahead, our spirit does also need to be fed. This is saying our power and our strength comes from above.

    If you’re ever at a place of exhaustion and not knowing what to do or where to go, maybe you need to be refilled with the power of the Holy Spirit.

    That means, like I said last week finding time to get alone with God. This weekend my Pastor preached a sermon all about finding and retreating to your secret place. We need to talk to God in our secret place. Where is yours? This is a question you should ask yourself. I know mine is in my room, I have a desk and that’s where I do all of my readings and replenishing. God is asking you to find a place, and find Him there. He will replenish your spirit with the power you need for this day. Do this over and over again and watch your days transforms.

    The secret to losing weight isn’t to starve yourself, that just leaves you malnutrition, the secret is eating plenty of foods that are rich in nutrition. The same can be said about the spirit. Don’t starve yourself by looking for the approval of others, seek the power of God himself through His scriptures and His stories."

    The Prayer of Faith Jan 21, 2021

    Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we read out of James 5:13-14 which says "13 Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise. 14 Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord."

    "Here are some four ways you can apply prayer and worship in your daily life.

    1. Worship in the Car - this is one of my favorite times to do so. Just me, God, and the open road. Maybe you’re never in the car alone, that’s okay, play worship music with your loved ones. It allows the room for the entire family to partake in a nice worship session.
    2. Read Your Bible - read stories and do the SOAP method. It’s kind of what we do here. SOAP stands of Scripture, Observation, Application, and Prayer - It’s good to clean yourself every morning, or right before you go to bed. I know this devotional was created and works for us because we are busy people, but maybe you can try and find one night of the week to reading scripture on your own. This leads me to point number 3.
    3. Schedule Your Time - This right here will save you so many hours. It will help you take bake the time you spend aimlessly scrolling, or watching TV. Block out your schedule, put locks on your apps. Hey, I have a 1 hour time block on Tik Tok. I needed it. It’s okay to come to those realizations. If you play video games, the same thing applies. If you have a schedule and a routine it’s hard to break it. Every morning I wake up at the same time, and I produce this show. It’s a daily habit at this point.
    4. Pray before bed - make it a habit to say the words, “Jesus, thank you for everything you did today, I love you” right before you go to bed. It doesn’t have to be a long prayer, just enough where you know and are constantly reminded of who protected you all day and who gives you breath in the mornings.

    We Will Be Exalted Jan 18, 2021

    Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we read out of 1 Peter 5:6-7 which says "Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care on him; for he cares for you."
    "I love this verse because at firsts it asks us to humble ourselves, so that he may exalt us. Meaning we won’t be exalted until we humble ourselves under His hand, meaning we serve rather than request to be served. But then after it says he will exalt us, it says “Casting all your care on him; for he cares for you” meaning, we can’t fully humble ourselves if we haven’t let go of the thing that worries us.
    How could we be in a state of humility if we cannot surrender all of us, including the control we have over our worries. We must surrender it all. So go about your day today and look for habits and hobbies that you can surrender. What are the things you haven’t let go of that won’t allow you to humble yourself?
    The definition of exalt is to hold (someone or something) in very high regard; think or speak very highly of. Another definition is to raise to a higher rank or a position of greater power. God loves us, that was never in question, but He wants to elevate you.
    How can He elevate us if we are constantly stuck in the present or past worrying about things that we cannot control? Humble yourself, server those around you, become the hands and feet of Jesus and He will exalt you in due time."
