What Worries You? Jan 15, 2021
    Show notes

Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we read out of Psalm 127:2 which says "2 In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat— for he grants sleep to those he loves."

"What worries you? What keeps you up late at night. What wakes you up just as you close your eyes? Today’s devotional gives me peace. God grants sleep to those he loves. That means all of us. He loves us all, but can we truly enjoy the rest he gives us if we are in a constant state of worry?

This is something I have to constantly remind myself. When I hit hiccups along the road I get worries and anxious I immediately take the control back from Him. I don’t do it purposely, but I don’t surrender them freely. I have to remind myself to do so.

My goal this year is to be healthier and full of joy. Everyday I surrender old habits and become overall, a more joyful person. I remember my joy comes from Him. He protects me, He gives me rest, He gives me food to eat and a shelter over my head. Now I get to enjoy life, live it to the fullest, laugh, and serve. I get to do things in a different manner.

It’s all about remembering to surrender and to rest in Him. I hope you do that this weekend. "

Guard Your Eyes Jan 14, 2021
    Show notes

Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we read out of Mark 6:22-23 which says "22 “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. 23 But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!"
"In the same way what we are surrounded with will guide us in this life. If you are surrounded with and always watching people argue, chances are you argue a lot. Same for complainers. People with negative attitudes. There is power in choosing to remove yourself from situations.

If you want to be a prosperous person, you need to surround yourself with other prosperous people. Same principal when it comes to being healthy.

Now, the same principal can be applied to not only what we surround ourselves with, but also to what we take the time to watch. Maybe you spend way too much time watching TV. Maybe all of the movies you watch are violent. Or maybe you spend way too much time aimlessly scrolling on social media.

These actions aren’t stimulating our imagination. They don’t give us time to get alone with God. They do the opposite. If we continue to poison our souls with the things we see, it’s going to be harder and harder for us to get to a place of pure love and pure faith. Instead of watching the news and scrolling for hours on end, crack open the Bible and see what It has to say.

Choose to read encouraging texts, chose to watch encouraging movies. Chose to take notice of the beauty of nature. Go outside. Surround yourself with loving people. Guard your eyes. Protect your eyes. Healthy eyes will leave you with a body full of light."

Throw Away The Shame Jan 13, 2021
    Show notes

Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we read out of Isaiah 54:4 which says "Fear not; you will no longer live in shame. Don’t be afraid; there is no more disgrace for you. You will no longer remember the shame of your youth and the sorrows of widowhood"

"The same way you can be a fan of the Star Wars franchise without reading and watching every text created, you can have a personal relationship with Christ without having read the Bible in its entirety.

I personally haven’t read the full bible, cover to cover, and I told myself for many years that I would never be capable of something like this. I told myself that because I hadn’t read the Bible cover to cover, I wasn’t eligible to share my testimony or my prayers.

That ideology is crippling and shameful. Just like I am now beginning to watch the clone wars, I too am reading more of the Bible. Somethings are starting to make more sense. As I continue watching the show, I can take note of the references I have seen in other movies or series. The same thing will happen as you read your Bible. A lot of the love and faith you’ve encountered in your walk with Christ will make a lot more sense as we start reading the full story.

Just like those that have only seen one movie, and love the movies, you could be a person who’s read one verse, encountered Jesus one time, and still love Him. The beauty of our relationship with Jesus is that after we encounter Him, we begin a journey of a lifetime, learning more about Him. Reading more of the Bible, learning to surrender, learning to lean into our faith. Don’t diminish your love for Jesus because you’ve only recently started to get to know Him. Don’t diminish your love for Him even if you’ve known Him all of your life, but never got around to reading the full Bible.

Our takeaway today is to remember to throw away the shame. Jesus died for that. Walk around and be bold in your faith. Share your testimony and your love and remind yourself that you are also continuing to go deeper into a relationship with Christ. We’ve all been given the instructions to spread the light of the gospel to those around us. Mark 13:10 says For the Good News must first be preached to all nations.

I hope you feel encouraged to do so."

    We've Been Given Peace Jan 11, 2021
    Show notes

Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we read out of John 14:27 which says " Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid."
"So as I prepared for the week ahead of me, I came across this verse and I thought it was so fitting. I hope you can hold onto it. His peace is not the same kind of peace that we find in the world, which is soothing because it confirms His ways are higher. But he continues with “Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid”.

Jesus is asking us over and over and over in the Bible to not be afraid. So if you are still a little sad from the events of 2020, and still a little worried about what the future will look like, remember that we have been given peace. We can live in peace. We don’t have to be afraid of the future. We know we live a life with Jesus, so let’s give all our worries to Him and let’s live for today.

Continue to work on your resolutions, continue to get alone and pray, but don’t forget to unplug after your work day and embrace your family. Play boardgames, make dinner, make memories."

Enduring Through Change Jan 06, 2021
    Show notes

Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we read out of 1 Corinthians 10:13 which says "No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it."
"The beautiful part of this verse is that He provides a way of escape, and once again the word from yesterday comes up and it says he provides us with a way of escape so that we may be able to endure it.

So it got me thinking. Endurance. What does it mean? Well according to the dictionary, the definition is: the fact or power of enduring an unpleasant or difficult process or situation without giving way. So I looked up, Endure. The definition of that is too suffer, patiently.

It’s only day six on 2021 and man do I want to eat all the chocolate in the world. But I know that I made a commitment to myself. That I would become a person who values her health. So now, I need to endure. The beauty is that God gives me everything I need to do so. He gives it to me, and he gives it to you. What ever you are enduring, God has you protected. He’s given you the tools to get through today. So make the best out of it."

Where Our Strength Comes From Jan 05, 2021
    Show notes

Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we read out of Colossians 1:11 which says " being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience"

"This verse today solidifies a truth that I talk about in the book. The source of our strength is God himself. Our strength gives us endurance and patience. It’s what allows us to become disciplined. It allows us to keep going when we don’t want to. Why? Well because the habits we are trying to form, they start with our identity and our identity is in Christ.

If he is the source of our strength, we know we have a never ending supply of strength. God doesn’t get tired. He doesn’t take a break. He is always there. He isn’t emotional, or moody. He doesn’t feel like supplying us with strength on January 1st and then runs out of strength on January 18th. The best part of this verse is that we are being strength according to him, so that you may have great endurance. Meaning when we get tired, all we have to say is “Hey Jesus, I need more strength to get through this mental block, to get though this relational block, to get through this physical block, to get through this spiritual block. When we realize our strength comes from him, we can walk into a life where our endurance is on his doing, not on our doing.

This could truly be your year, when you understand that he is the source of our strength meaning we don’t have to do this alone."

We Are Called Jan 01, 2021
    Show notes

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we kick off 2021 together in prayer. Today we are reading out of 2 Timothy 1:7-10 which says "7 For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline. 8 So do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord or of me his prisoner. Rather, join with me in suffering for the gospel, by the power of God. 9 He has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time, 10 but it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel."
"Resolutions are always hard. I find that a lot of the times, I start something and half way through January things are right back down to normal. A lot of you will pray everyday for 3 weeks, and you may slowly start to slip away from prayer time, I get it its nothing personal that happened to me, that’s why I started this devotional.

God gives us everything we need to become who we were called to be. But first and foremost we were called to be Holy. We were called to live a life after His heart but He knows that life gets in the way.

I hope this verse gives you the courage that it your days don’t have to “go back to normal” but that the resolutions you’ve written are new your new normal. You can do this, You can make this your year, with Him by your side."

Happily Ever After Dec 30, 2020
    Show notes

Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we read out of John 10:9-10 which says "9 I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full."
" This verse reminds me that we get to live Happily Ever After in Him. Through him we get to have life, and have it to the full. Meaning we get to have it all. Not all that we want, but we get to have everything he wants for us and what he wants for us, surpasses anything we could ever dream or imagine.

He wants to give us life, love, joy. He extends grace and mercy. He calls us by name. He knows what we need and he knows where we’ve been and yet still, we get to live a life of happily ever after.

There is an enemy and he will try his very best to kill and destroy you joy. It happens when we are driving and someone cuts us off, or drives too slow. It happens when we allow our flesh and emotions to dictate our situations. It happens when we allow negative thoughts to consume us. It happens when we have lack of communication with our loved ones.

He is sneaky, and his promises sound like ever after, but he can only give short term pleasure. We are in it for the long hall. We pray, and we lean on Jesus to remember that only He can give us pasture. He is the only one who can give us the happily ever after we truly deserve. One with Him."

Everything We Need, We Have! Dec 29, 2020
    Show notes

Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we read out of Philippians 4:19-20 which says "19 And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus. 20 To our God and Father be glory for ever and ever. Amen"
"Let today’s devotional serve as a beautiful reminder, that your needs will be met. You will always be taken care of, according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus. We don’t have to get weighed down by anything because we are ready for the next chapter. Everything we’ve learned, has prepared us for what’s next.
So don’t let this past year discourage you, it was very very necessary. Instead, get alone, get with God, and pray. Write down everything you experienced. Write down your wins, and your stocks, bring them to Him. Tell Him everything you want to accomplish over the next year and with faith, know that He hears you, He knows what you need, and everything will be given to you. "

    I am MORE Than a Conqueror Dec 28, 2020
    Show notes

Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we read out of Romans 8:37-39 which says " 37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

"These verses are beautiful reminders and should be stables in everyone’s life. We are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. The beauty of this passage is that it talks about how much he loves us. Because he loves so so much, because there is NOTHING we can do, or be, or go, that would separate His love for us.

This means that in our day today, we can face different obstacles, and make stupid mistakes but still come back to the one truth. That he loves us no matter what. This doesn’t give you a hall pass to become an awful person, but this serves as a reminder that when we work hard we can conquer all things. That includes all goals, and resolution.

We should all strive to be better in the new year. To learn more from God everyday. With Him and His love we can accomplish great things.

I pray as we go about our day we remember His love, His goodness, and His strength that we can lean on. No matter what you face, new classes at school, weight loss goals, new job on the horizon, career changes, what ever it is, we are conquering through Him."
