Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we begin our 15 devotional series of prayers and read out of Matthew 26:69-75 which says "69 Now Peter was sitting out in the courtyard, and a servant girl came to him. “You also were with Jesus of Galilee,” she said. 70 But he denied it before them all. “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he said. 71 Then he went out to the gateway, where another servant girl saw him and said to the people there, “This fellow was with Jesus of Nazareth.” 72 He denied it again, with an oath: “I don’t know the man!” 73 After a little while, those standing there went up to Peter and said, “Surely you are one of them; your accent gives you away.” 74 Then he began to call down curses, and he swore to them, “I don’t know the man!” Immediately a rooster crowed. 75 Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken: “Before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times.” And he went outside and wept bitterly."
"My favorite verse however is verse 73, which is where this title comes from, the bystander said “Surely you are one of them; your accent gives you away” and it reminded me of all the times someone has stopped me to ask me where I was from. When I say Miami, they proceed with, but are you Spanish? And I always say, yeah my family is Cuban.

We should all have an accent. Not in the way we pronounce our words, but in the way we speak, in the way we act, in the way we walk. Someone should say to you.. “Surely you are Christian, the way you love others, gives you away!"

Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we begin our 15 devotional series of prayers and read out of Mark 14:61-62 which says "61 But Jesus remained silent and gave no answer. Again the high priest asked him, “Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?” 62 “I am,” said Jesus. “And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.”
"Today I wanted to focus on the fact that He was nothing like they had imagined. He wasn’t a rich man. He wasn’t a king. He wasn’t royalty. He was a carpenter. He was a friend of sinners. He was a man who changed the world. He was the son of God.

To apply this scripture you must understand the power of that sentence. The power behind His declaration of being the son of God. He was the chosen one. He was the savior and they were too blind to see it.

I hope we don’t live our life too blind to see Jesus when He stands right in front of us. I hope when we see God move in our life, we don’t have to question if it was Him or not. I hope we become so familiar with Him that we never have to ask the question, are you the son of God. I hope we grow such a deep relationship with Him that we know with every fiber in us, that He is who He says He is. "

Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we begin our 15 devotional series of prayers and read out of Luke 22:39-46 which says "39 And he came out and went, as was his custom, to the Mount of Olives, and the disciples followed him. 40 And when he came to the place, he said to them, "Pray that you may not enter into temptation." 41 And he withdrew from them about a stone's throw, and knelt down and prayed, 42 saying, "Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done." 43 And there appeared to him an angel from heaven, strengthening him. 44 And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly; and his sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground. 45 And when he rose from prayer, he came to the disciples and found them sleeping for sorrow, 46 and he said to them, "Why are you sleeping? Rise and pray that you may not enter into temptation."
"All of our choices seems so minuscule compared to what Jesus was asking. Yet we fail all the time. The task before Him was heavy, yet He followed through with it so gracefully. Our only take away today is to reflect on how He prayed. He prayed a normal prayer, one that we pray everyday, God if there is any other way please show me. A lot of the times, there is easy way out of our calling, but every time He sends us strength. Just like he sent an angel to strengthen Jesus.

So if there is anything you take away from this passage is that, in your moments of prayer, you will always come out stronger than how you went in. Take the time to pray over your choices. Whether they be difficult life changing choices or not, everyday we must pray that we stay on track with where he has called us."

Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we begin our 15 devotional series of prayers and read out of Matthew 20:17-19 which says "17 Now Jesus was going up to Jerusalem. On the way, he took the Twelve aside and said to them, 18 “We are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the teachers of the law. They will condemn him to death 19 and will hand him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified. On the third day he will be raised to life!”
"...Why did they return to their old ways?

He said “They were human, maybe they needed an anchor to ground them and the only anchor they knew was the anchor of their old ways”

And just like that a light bulb went off.

We are human, and as humans we tend to look for things we can attach ourselves to. The good news for you and I is that we don’t live in a weird reality where we think Jesus died and isn’t coming back. We get to live in a world where as this verse says, on the third day he will rise.

So, on this beautiful Monday I want to encourage you. Don’t go back to your old ways. Find your anchor in Jesus. You were called for much bigger and greater things. Celebrate His victory, because he defeated death, you can turn away from your old habits and hang onto the promises of eternity. "

Trust Builds Trust Mar 12, 2021

Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we read out of Matthew 6:25 which says "25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?"
"They say healthy relationships are built on trust. You’ve heard the words before, “If we don’t have trust, we don’t have anything”. We understand how important that it in romantic relationships, but why is it any different in our relationships with Christ?

This verse is saying do not worry about your life. What will you eat or drink, what you will wear. Is not life more than food…

Think about that saying, is life not more than food, and the body more than clothes.

In short, of course there is so much more to life. The relationships we build, the memories we make, the love we experience, yet sometimes we sacrifice all of these moments, we sacrifice our moments while we are paralyzed in worry.

A lot of the times we treat our jobs, the number in the bank, the numbers of likes on Tik Tok, and the number of followers on Instagram has if it were the clothes on our body. The thing is none of these things will sustain us.

We must trust God. We must trust that He will never allow us to go hungry. We must trust that He always has our best interest in mind. We must trust what is written in the Bible. We must trust what He has to say about us. Without trust, we make this relationship about us and not about Him."

Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we read out of Hebrews 13:6 which says "6 So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?”

"Every season brings an opportunity for growth. An opportunity to continue grow deeper spiritually, and opportunity to grow into the person you’ve always wanted to be.

Never do you have to do such things alone. For He is your helper and we do not be to be afraid. There is nothing that can happen to you, no one that can hurt you. No matter how difficult the season, how dry the harvest, how low the valley, God is teaching you, God is leading you, God is watching over you.

So take this season, and embrace it. Look for where you can grow. Look for how you can change. Your time here will serve it’s purpose. It will give you the experience necessary for future season.

Experience is vital. It helps us build confidence. Why? Well because in every season, we know God delivers us. And if we know that he is with us and that he is our helper, we can have the confidence that if we ever have to face the same or a similar situation, we would know exactly how to grow through it again."

Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we read out of Galatians 6:8 which says "Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life."
"Nothing good comes out leaning onto your flesh. Nothing good comes from selfishness. Nothing good comes out of vanity.

The second part to this verse says it all, whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.

If you’re wondering what pleasing the spirit looks like, look to the fruit of the spirit. Galatians 5:22-23 says 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

Today all you have to do is meditate on such things. Sow good seed and watch how your harvest will shine.

Sow goodness, sow love, sow joy, and peace and kindness and faithfulness. You have the self-control to reframe from your selfish ways. Eternal life is so much greater than anything your flesh can provide.

Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we read out of Psalm 25:9 which says "He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way."
"Doing life God’s way isn’t hard. But it requires you to say no to your flesh every single day. I read the verse above and I wanted to go back through scripture to really see what it says about His way.

1 John 2:6 says the one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked.

So we are to abide in him, and walk like him.

    Psalm 18:30 says As for God, His way is blameless;

    The word of the Lord is tried;

He is a shield to all who take refuge in Him.

I really love that it says the word of the Lord is tried. Meaning this way of life, being humble, walking with the Lord, saying no to temptations, serving those around us, it’s a tried and tested way of living. It gives us strength when our world crumbles, it gives us clarity when we need it. It allows the bigger voice in our life to be His.

As you go about your day today, look for the areas in your life that are not aligned with how God wants you to live and ask yourself why. Is it a need for control, or simply something you do not want to give up. Like we started todays, Devo, He wants to teach you His way, what is He trying to teach you today?"

The Builder Of All Things Mar 05, 2021

This is Episode 200 of the My Morning Devotional Podcast.
    Find us on Instagram: @mymorningdevo
Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we read out of Hebrews 3:4 which says "For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God"
"This verse just stopped me in my reading and I wanted to stay here for a little while, just really meditate on that. God is the builder of all things. It was such a perfect verse for today’s prayer.

Together we celebrate consistent prayer. I don’t care if you started praying with us last week or back when I started this podcast in June, we’ve all been praying for sometime now. If today is your first day, I encourage you to keep tuning in.

When I look at this community I am thankful. Thankful because I know who the builder is. It’s not me, I am no one. But Jesus uses us all to build His story. We all play a role, if you see it or not. Everyday you come into contact with people and you have the ability to become the hands and feet of Jesus right where you find yourself. It’s a blessing to be able to do life with Him, and it’s a blessing to be able to do life with this community.

I am eager to grow deeper in my faith, and I am honored you have joined me on the journey.

As you go about your day today, look at the things around you. He is the builder of all things. Your home, your relationships, your careers. If any of these things feel as if they go in the opposite direction of God’s will, then maybe you forced a door on a pillar of your life in which a door was not intended. Interior designers need permits to reconstruct walls, don’t start building doors when they aren’t first approved by the architect."

Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we read out of 1 John 5:7-8 which says "7 For there are three that testify: 8 the Spirit and the water and the blood; and these three agree."
"As you go about your day reflect on this. God the father, creator of the universe. Creator of the earth and the heaven. King above all. Jesus, his son, the word turned flesh. He walked with God in the beginning. He sacrificed His life for us. He is 100% man, yet 100% God. He lived a sin-less life and died for us. He is our greatest friend. The Holy Spirit, which is the very breath of God that resides within you. It is the voice on conviction and accountability. he gives you the strength to push forward and the discernment for when to pull back.

We are three part as well. The body, physical body the only thing given to us at birth that will be with us when we depart. It takes care of us, gives us a home while we are on this earth. We don’t give our bodies the credit they deserve. We are also part soul, our very essence the thing that makes us who we are. Our personality and life experiences all wrapped into one beautiful energy. Our third part is the spirit that lives within, and we just covered that. It’s our direct line to the father.

We are all connected. It’s important that we treat them all with the love and respect it deserves. Let’s fill our minds with pure thoughts, let’s fill our bodies with the greatest kinds of foods, let’s nourish our spirits by getting into the word. Let’s confide in our father as we pray everyday. Let us not lean onto our understanding but rather let’s look to Jesus for direction.

My prayer today is the same as it was in June, may we all find the time to honor what He’s given us. May we all find the time to worship, may we find the time to praise. May we find the courage to surrender. May we find the strength to spread love and light in this dim world. "
