    Movies You Forgot You Forgot

Welcome to the home of forgotten films. Each week, Joe Devine & Adam Richmond discuss a different film that they’ve seen before, but forgotten existed. They discuss cinema, memory, culture and history – as well as play silly games about cheese, budgets, and re-casting.

Listeners needn’t have seen the film, but are welcome to watch (or re-watch) before episodes for a different perspective. And at the end of each show, Adam & Joe read out forgotten film lists to each other, to find the film that becomes the focus for next week’s episode.

    Latest Episodes:
75: Closer, Julia Roberts, and very rude words Jan 28, 2025
Show notes Joe & Adam take a long hard look at the film Closer, based on the play of the same name, by Patrick Marber.
Released in 2004, the MYFYF duo ponder if it translates to screen, the brutal language of love, and the Julia Roberts of it all - is she just too damn powerful to be believable?
They keep singing that Damien Rice song too. Content warning: the film is bracingly frank with its use of rude language, and it gets quoted. A lot.
Send us an email at moviesyouforgotyouforgot@gmail.com with any cinematic thoughts you have, along with suggestions for future episodes. There is a ‘communal list’ of films people forgot they forgot - add one to the tally.
Follow Adam on Letterboxd, it’s fun over there. He might follow back - depends on your numbers and if you review the films you log.

    74: Swingers, On a Night Out movies & Answer-machines Jan 21, 2025
Show notes The fantastic John Favreau/Vince Vaughn indie buddy comedy Swingers (1996) gets the Forgot You Forgot treatment. It’s a real gem of a flick, lightening in a bottle - Joe managed to forget it though. Topics on the docket: male friendship, the creative daring that got the film made, and the sad demise of the answerphone in life (and its dramatic use in films). It’s a ruder episode than usual - you have been warned.

73: Best Films of the Year Jan 01, 2025
Show notes Joe and Adam conduct the annual Movies You Forgot You Forgot awards, including best film of the year, best new film to you, and others!

72: Platoon, Vietnam War Movies & Ruined by Spoofs Dec 24, 2024
Show notes Joe & Adam dive into Oliver Stone’s 1986 Vietnam War flick Platoon, and ponder is this canon Vietnam War flick or has the current state of Charlie Sheen made it a tad laughable.

Also, is it enough to just watch Vietnam War films to know about Vietnam? (No). Also, why’s Joe so touchy?
Thanks for listening, we love you. Email us as moviesyouforgotyouforgot@gmail.com with all your thoughts and notions and criticisms, Adam can handle it. Maybe try and suggest a film for the communal list; dare you?
Follow Adam on Letterboxd @errorofways. He’ll follow back.

71: Prometheus, Alien & Imagining The Future Dec 17, 2024
Show notes It's a prequels episode, with Prometheus in the firing line. Ridley Scott's Alien prequel, starring Michael Fassbender & Charlize Theron was released in 2012 and never quite lived up to expectation. Joe & Adam, in this episode, discuss why the film doesn't really work, why the original Alien is great, and how people imagine the future.

70: Collateral, Tom Cruise and Streetlights Dec 10, 2024
Show notes Michael Mann's Collateral is on the bill in this episode of Movies You Forgot You Forgot. Does Tom Cruise make it work as the silver-haired villain? Is Jamie Foxx miscast? And why does Mann love shooting outside at night? All this and more!

69: Gladiator 2, plus Rotten Tomatoes’ Best of 25 Years Dec 03, 2024
Show notes It’s an Off To the Cinema special (aka a non-essential filler episode), as Joe gets his special wish: to see Ridley Scott‘s Gladiator II with his best bud Adam. He loves everything about the original, and had high hopes for the follow-up starring Paul Mescal, Denzel Washington and Pedro Pescal.
It didn’t go well, and Joe shares his lamentations about the film’s failures.
Plus, there’s a bit of afters about Rotten Tomatoes Best Films of the Last 25 Years list.

68: Pulp Fiction, Quentin Tarantino; Foot Massage Digressions Nov 26, 2024
Show notes This is not a film that Adam forgot he forgot. Clearly. This is all on Joe, Quentin Tarantino’s seminal, iconic, zeitgeist-changing, comically violent crime flick from 1994.
Starring John Travolta, Bruce Willis, Uma Thurman and Ving Rhames, it’s a flick of unforgettable moments and seared-in-the-mind dialogue. Not for Joe though.
The duo chat violence in movies, post-modernism, what a great film it is, Tarantino’s baffling insistence on appearing in his own films, and getting waylaid by foot massages along the journey.

67: Almost Famous, Nostalgia and Invisible Sad Boys Nov 19, 2024
Show notes The Cameron Crowe directed 2000 nostalgia music flick about a band on the run, starring Kate Hudson, Billy Crudup and Patrick Fugit, and featuring the late great Philip Seymour Hoffman.
Joe & Adam dig into director’s cuts, the fine differences between nostalgia for a general past time versus a nostalgia for being young (with added Chat-GPT for clarity/confusion), and this film’s missing heart of darkness.
Send us as email at moviesyouforgotyouforgot@gmail.com with your thoughts, feelings and ideas, plus any suggestions you have for a
film you forgot you forgot. We’ll add it to the communal list! Enter into consideration. 66: The Lobster, Colin Farrell’s Triumph of Will, and Lots of Lanthimos Nov 11, 2024
Show notes What animal would you get turned into? Joe & Adam ponder The Lobster, Yorgos Lanthimos’ 2015 dry as a bone awkward sci-fi comedy starring Colin Farrell and Rachel Weisz.
Is the film all logic brain and no beating heart? There is much discussion of Lanthimos’ tone, and a great divide over whether Poor Things is good or not.
Also: what is the narrative of Farrell’s career, what sound does a lobster make, and what animal is best to get turned into. As well, of course, there’s the usual business of the Box Office Game, and the Forgot You Forgot Picking the Next Film Game.
Email us with your film suggestions at moviesyouforgotyouforgot@gmail.com.
And follow Adam over on Letterboxd, he’ll follow you back and enter friendly good-hearted film banter.
