103. What Ever Happened To Baby Jane? With special guest Kelly Hardy Jun 11, 2021

Show notes

I didn't bring your breakfast, because you didn't eat your din-din! We watched What Ever Happened to Baby Jane (1962) with our friend Kelly Hardy and we aren't ever gonna leave this house. Bette Davis and Joan Crawford are at the top of their game giving us high camp and we're loving every minute of it. Davis and Crawfords capitalize on their feud to create this horror masterpiece that spawned some of the shadiest subgenre names in cinema history. You just know "Psycho-biddy", "Hasploitation", and "Grande Dame Guignol" had to have been coined by a cinefile gay guy!

102. American Psycho with special guest Mike Toscano Jun 04, 2021

Show notes

Do you like Huey Lewis and The News? We watched American Psycho (2000) with MTMUG superstar Mike Toscano and we have to return some videotapes. We try to get decide if the Uber-80's tale of Patrick Bateman (Christian Bale) and his descent into madness is a horror movie, a psychological thriller or a dark comedy. Ultimately its up to the viewer. What we can agree on is that gays across the land owe director Mary Harron a debt of gratitude for delivering on those gratuitous body shots of Bale as Bateman working out, tanning and inventing Onlyfans. Was it all in Bateman's head? Maybe. Do we still love author Brett Easton Ellis even though he's a stone cold weirdo? Sure. Do we still pause the movie like giddy middle schoolers at just the right moment. You bet. It's episode 102 of Movies That Made Us Gay!

101. Grease 2 with special guest Drew Droege May 28, 2021

Show notes

There's gotta be more to life than just makin out. We watched Grease 2 with the hilarious Drew Droege and we want more than the boy next door - we want hell on wheels! It's more than just a gender swapped rehash of Grease - it gave the world one miss Michelle Marie Pfeiffer. The amount of gorgeousness when Stephanie Zinoni (Pfeiffer) and Michael Carrington (Maxwell Caulfield) share the screen can power a small town. The new crop of T-Birds fronted by Adrian Zmed are WAY cute and the Pink Ladies are serving Lewks- not the least of which is Lorna Luft giving full drag queen. This movie is full on bananas, with more grown adults playing teens, decidedly un-50's music and the flimsiest secret identity since Clark Kent's horn-rimmed glasses. We still think "Cool Rider" could have been a hit on the radio.

100. Dirty Dancing with special guest Millie De Chirico May 21, 2021

Show notes

"I carried a watermelon." We made it to 100 episodes and for this momentous occasion we watched the 80's classic Dirty Dancing (1987) with our friend Millie De Chirico (I Saw What You Did Podcast) and Nobody puts Baby in the corner! This movie can be summed up for the gays and straights alike in two simple words: sexual awakening. Patrick Swayze is strutting around the screen showing off that teeny dancers waist in skintight ballroom slacks while we're all living vicariously through Jennifer Grey as "Baby." We talk about our favorite background dancers showing out, the amazing supporting cast (we Stan Penny!) and the complete and utter disregard for 1960's realism. It's episode 100 of Movies That Made Us Gay!!

99. The Talented Mr. Ripley with special guest Michael Morgan May 14, 2021

Show notes

Everybody should have one talent, what's yours? We watched The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999) with our friend Mike Morgan and we wouldn't change anything about this moment. Do you remember where you were when you first saw Jude Law in that bathtub? Back in 1999 seeing this kind of flagrant homoerotic imagery in a mainstream movie blew our teenage minds and we've never recovered. Matt Damon in a chartreuse banana hammock, Jude Law in even less and the one-two punch of Gwyneth Paltrow and Cate Blanchett in 50's couture... our little queer minds never stood a chance. Philip Seymour Hoffman mincing around the joint sealed the deal. Hows the peeping? Tommy how's the peeping?

98. Superman II with special guest Billy Roach May 07, 2021

Show notes

Kneel before Zod!! We watched Superman II (1980) with our friend and Superman expert Billy Roach and we believe a man can fly. We take a deep dive into Superman lore and really get into what makes these early superhero movies so special. Christopher Reeve is an absolute dreamboat as Superman and Margot Kidder is adorably kooky as Lois Lane. But the Kryptonian villains are everything! Giving you disco S&M glamour. Terence Stamp's General Zod is serving early Priscilla Queen of the Desert bored-queen while Sarah Douglas is FIERCE as glamorous Ursa. We can't leave out Valerie Perrine as Lex Luthor's (Gene Hackman) ditzy moll Miss Teschemacher. Trust us, this movie is gayer than you remember.

97. Starship Troopers with special guest Matthew Farris Apr 30, 2021

Show notes

You're some sort of big, fat, smart-bug aren't you? We watched Starship Troopers (1997) with out friend Matthew Farris and we suddenly feel the need for a shower. This socio-political satire disguised as a shoot-em-up scifi movie is packed with hidden homo-tendencies... you just have to know where to look. The cast is so beautiful they all look like they were carved out of cream cheese. The combined hotness of Casper Van Dien, Denise Richards and Dina Meyer can power a small city for weeks. Not to mention the infamous co-ed shower scene brought to you by director Paul Verhoeven's (Showgirls, Basic Instinct) egalitarian view on the future of warfare. A twink-ish Neil Patrick Harris as a psychic special forces general, shirtless corporal punishment and army barracks grab-ass round out the scenes that have stayed with us since we were baby gays watching this movie with our oblivious families. Maybe we missed out on the not-so-subtle satire then, but we totally watch for the plot now. Would you like to know more?

96. Cabaret with special guest Darren Elms Apr 23, 2021

Show notes

Doesn't my body drive you wild with desire? We watched Cabaret (1972) with our friend Darren Elms and we're here for the divine decadence darling! We take a deep dive and try to find out where Sally Bowles ends and Liza Minnelli begins. Liza belts out these signature songs like such a pro we don't even care that Sally the character is an untalented hack who can't hold a note. Michael York is dreamy as Brian (stand in for Christopher Isherwood) and Joel Grey is creepily perfect as the Master of Ceremonies. Life IS a cabaret old chum so come to the Cabaret.

95. Serial Mom with special guest Ricky Diaz Apr 16, 2021

Show notes

The only "serial" I know anything about is Rice Krispies! We watched Serial Mom (1994) with our friend Ricky Diaz and you know how we hate the brown word. John Waters takes on the wholesome American family and gives us some of the most quotable lines of his catalog (are those Pussy Willows?). Kathleen Turner plays Beverly Sutphin with such a sweetness you root for her when she takes people out for the most minor offense. Why can't you wear white shoes after Labor Day? Who cares! Keep your eyes peeled for John Waters mainstays like Mink Stole, Traci Lords and Patty Hearst and peep newcomers to his stable of weirdos (Suzanne Somers!). Sometimes our neighbors drive us crazy... we just don't take a leg of lamb to the side of the heads! Yet.
