If you’re driving along Interstate 80 at the Utah-Nevada border, or as its commonly called “cowboy corridor," your eyes will be drawn towards a massive neon cowboy, waving suggestively into the sun. This cowboy’s name is Wendover Will and he has been welcoming gamblers to West Wendover, Nevada, for almost 7 decades.
West Wendover is a small city that has thrived under a lucrative gambling industry in Nevada. In addition, it’s also known for it's legal brothels and the air force base where Enola Gay took off, heading for Hiroshima. In fact, scenes from the movie, Independence Day, were filmed here.
Amidst these tales, however, is a story so shocking that is still wends through the deserts of West Wendover. A story about a tragic night where three local families lost their teenage children.

09: The Weepy Voiced Killer Aug 12, 2019
    Show notes

For a number of serial killers, sometimes the act of murder just isn’t enough to satisfy them. Some taunt the police in letters. Some call family members to tease them. Some take to the media to stir up emotions. Such cat-and-mouse messages often satisfy the killer’s desperate ego and heighten their sense of control over the world. They want recognition and attention for their crimes But sometimes, these messages can be spurred by a sense of guilt, whether conscious or not.
Between 1980 and 1982, a serial killer was terrorizing Minneapolis residents. He became known as the “Weepy-Voiced Killer” due to the emotional phone calls he would make to police following his murders, begging them to catch him.

    08: The Cheshire Murders Aug 05, 2019
    Show notes

The Connecticut town of Cheshire has a suburban and homely feel. It looked like it belonged on a pretty postcard. Residents of this quaint town take care of their homes and keep their lawns well manicured. Historically, it was a farming town with a number of small family-run farms.
But then in 2007, a random home invasion took a sinister turn and ended with the murders of two young girls and their mother. The senseless crime struck fear into the hearts of not only Cheshire families, but families across the world. If you’re not safe in your own home, then where are you safe?

    04: Elisa Izquierdo Jul 08, 2019
    Show notes

The tragic case of Elisa Izquierdo is an all-too-familiar tale of bureaucratic ineptitude. Her short life and brutal death was so horrendous that it reduced even the most hardened officers to tears. When she was just 6-years-old, she was murdered by her abusive mother.
New York’s Child Welfare Administration knew all about Elisa's plight long before her death yet did nothing to save her. Young Elisa became a symbol of the failures in New York’s Child Welfare Administration and Family Court, whose bureaucracy allowed this little girl to slip right through the cracks and into her grave.
