Episode 262 - Teaching Our Kids A Biblical Worldview with Elizabeth Urbanowicz Jun 19, 2023
    Show notes

“We want all children growing up in Christian homes to be able to think biblically and to faithfully navigate the culture in which they’re living.” Elizabeth Urbanowicz, CEO of Foundation Worldview, helps us as Christian parents to equip our children in the Word of God and to carefully evaluate every idea they encounter. She talks about easy to use tools you can use to do this as a busy mom and how to incorporate them into your child’s day, whether around the dinner table or driving to a soccer game.

The Moms in Prayer Podcast is a part of the Christian Parenting Podcast Network. To find practical and spiritual advice to help you grow into the parent you want to be visit www.ChristianParenting.org

    ABOUT OUR GUEST

Elizabeth Urbanowicz is a follower of Jesus Christ who is passionate about equipping kids to understand the truth of the Christian worldview. She holds a B.S. in Elementary Education and Spanish, an M.S.Ed in Literacy Education, and an M.A. in Christian Apologetics from Biola University. Elizabeth began her professional career as an elementary teacher in a Christian school. Several years into her teaching experience, she realized that despite being raised in Christian homes, attending a Christian school, and being active in church, her students thought more like the culture than like Christ. She created curricular materials that would equip her students to think critically, helping them discover that Christianity is the worldview that lines up with reality. Elizabeth now works full-time on developing comparative worldview and apologetics resources for children. Her goal is to prepare the next generation to be lifelong critical thinkers and, most importantly, lifelong disciples of Jesus Christ.

    SCRIPTURES

The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever. Isaiah 40:8 NASB

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:2 NIV

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Hebrews 13:8 NKJV

Episode 261 - Pouring Out Our Hearts to the King with Susan Shepherd Jun 12, 2023
    Show notes

“We are invited to the throne of grace and mercy where God wants us to pour out our hearts to Him.” Susan Shepherd, Moms in Prayer USA Country Coordinator, gives us a sneak peek into the new 4-week online Bible study, Petitioning the King. Get new insight into praying for others from examples in the Bible including David in the Psalms, Moses praying for the Israelites, Paul praying for the church, and most importantly, Jesus’ prayers.

    ABOUT OUR GUEST

Susan Shepherd joyfully serves as the USA Country Coordinator for Moms in Prayer International, coaching, encouraging, and working with amazing godly women across the United States. She joined a Moms in Prayer group in 1996 when her daughters were in elementary school. Since then, she’s experienced the peace, power, and perspective of watching God work in the lives of children and schools and she is passionate about sharing this hope and joy with other moms. Susan is married to Joe, mom to two married daughters, and the grandmother of three with another grandchild on the way. Susan loves to pray, but she also likes coffee with friends, traveling, and a good book.

    SCRIPTURES

Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7 CSB

Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. Hebrews 4:16 NIV

If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened; but God has surely listened and has heard my prayer. Praise be to God, who has not rejected my prayer or withheld his love from me! Psalm 66:18-20 NIV

My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. They are not of the world, even as I am not of it. Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth. As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world. John 17:15-18 NIV

And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God. Philippians 1:9-11 NIV

In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God. Romans 8:26-27 NIV

Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. Romans 12:14,18,21 NIV

Episode 260 - A Passion to Pray for Children & Schools with Fern Nichols Jun 05, 2023
    Show notes

“I was sending my boys to junior high, into a battlefield every single day for their minds. Who’s going to pray?” Fern Nichols, founder of Moms in Prayer International, walks us through the power of praying together including two key purposes of prayer, why we pray, and the crisis we’re in and what to do about it. She also tells us the stories of two of her sons and how God answered prayer for their safety, salvation, and important life decisions.

    ABOUT OUR GUEST

Fern Nichols is a former elementary school teacher and the founder of Moms in Prayer International, a prayer movement that mobilizes women around the world to gather to pray for their children and schools. In 1984, Fern was fearful about sending her two eldest children off to junior high. She knew the school would be a battlefield for their hearts and minds. She realized the warfare would be intense and to fight in this battle she needed to invite other moms to pray. She called a mom and asked her to pray with her for their children and school. Her response was an immediate “yes,” and that was the humble beginning of Moms in Prayer that now spans the USA in every state and is in more than 150 countries.

Moms in Prayer is an hour of hope. Moms are discovering that being a part of the Moms in Prayer community is turning their fears to faith. Week after week they are learning to never underestimate the power of their prayers. Fern has traveled to almost every continent in the world speaking, teaching, and training women how to pray effectively. She and her husband Rle have been married 51 years. They were involved with Campus Crusade for Christ (now CRU) for 15 years. They have four children and 10 grandchildren.

    SCRIPTURES

And whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. John 14:13 NKJV

Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete. John 16:24 NIV

I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people. 1 Timothy 2:1 NIV

“Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me.” Psalm 50:15 NKJV

“I looked for someone among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found no one.” Ezekiel 22:30 NIV

When they arrived, they went upstairs to the room where they were staying. Those present were Peter, John, James and Andrew; Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew; James son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James. They all joined together constantly in prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers. Acts 1:13-14 NIV

So Peter was kept in prison, but the church was earnestly praying to God for him. Then Peter came to himself and said, “Now I know without a doubt that the Lord has sent his angel and rescued me from Herod’s clutches and from everything the Jewish people were hoping would happen.” Acts 12:5,11 NIV

Episode 259 - The Power of Christian Community with John Decker May 29, 2023
    Show notes

“Instead of sending your kids off to college alone, they can actually meet other Christian incoming students and leaders months before they land on campus.” Today we talk with John Decker, Director of Ministry Partnerships for Every Student Sent. He addresses the issue of college students falling away from faith in Christ through a social platform where incoming students can find a local campus ministry or church and connect with other Christian students before getting on campus.

    ABOUT OUR GUEST

As the Director of Ministry Partnerships for Every Student Sent, John Decker and the Campus Renewal team have developed a coalition of major college ministries, youth ministries, Christian schools, and denominations dedicated to making it standard practice in America to connect Christian youth to college ministries and churches before they leave home. This has been shown effective to reverse the 70% college faith drop-off and create resilient disciples who learn to multiply.

John received a BS from Syracuse University and SUNY College of Environmental Science and worked for 24 years in the US and abroad in business development for Lockheed Martin and Philips. He planted an Intervarsity Christian Fellowship chapter at Syracuse and while developing the college transition ministry, also established a branch of College Assistance Plus to help Christian families and financial advisors understand the business of college, negotiate lower tuition, minimize debt, and find the right career. John is blessed with a wonderful wife of 43 years, three children, and eight grandkids who all get together often at their Syracuse, New York home. You can reach him at john.decker@campusrenewal.org.

    SCRIPTURES

Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.” 1 Corinthians 15:33 NKJV

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you. Psalm 32:8 NIV

And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen. SCRIPTURES

Unless the LORD builds the house, they labor in vain who build it; unless the LORD guards the city, the watchman stays awake in vain. Psalm 127:1 NKJV

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. Matthew 6:34 NKJV

Casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:5 NKJV

I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears. Those who look to him are radiant, and their faces shall never be ashamed. Psalm 34:4-5 ESV

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. Philippians 4:6-8 NKJV

There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. 1 John 4:18 NKJV

Max and Denalyn now live in San Antonio, Texas. They have three grown daughters, two sons-in-law, and two grandchildren.

    SCRIPTURES

“Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.” John 3:7-8 NKJV

“It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.” John 6:63 ESV

“And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.” John 14:16-18 NKJV

“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.” John 14:26 NKJV

“However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you.” John 16:13-14 NKJV

“Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.” Romans 8:26 NKJV

Joni and her husband, Ken, have been married since 1982.

    SCRIPTURES

Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.Proverbs 22:6 KJV

But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal.Matthew 6:20 NASB

I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.Romans 8:18 NIV

Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.2 Corinthians 4:16-18 NIV

And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.Ephesians 1:22-23 NIV

For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives.Colossians 1:9 NIV

If they had been thinking of the country they had left, they would have had opportunity to return. Instead, they were longing for a better country—a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.Hebrews 11:15-16 NIV

Episode 255 - Teaching Children to Love & Welcome Others with Trillia Newbell May 01, 2023
    Show notes

“I want to help parents engage further with their children about what it means to welcome and love the way Jesus does.” Today we hear from Trillia Newbell about her children’s book, The Big Wide Welcome. She brings to our attention the sin of partiality or favoritism and how important it is for us as parents to check our own hearts in order to model this for our children. Kids will learn that Christians and churches are called to be like Jesus, fully welcoming people so they can come to know the Good News.

    ABOUT OUR GUEST

Trillia Newbell is the author of several books including 52 Weeks in the Word, A Great Cloud of Witnesses, Sacred Endurance, If God Is For Us, and the children’s books, The Big Wide Welcome, Creative God, Colorful Us and God’s Very Good Idea. When she isn’t writing, she’s encouraging and supporting other writers as the Acquisitions Director at Moody Publishers. Trillia is married to her best friend, Thern. They reside with their two children near Nashville, TN. You can find her at trillianewbell.com and follow her on Instagram at @trillianewbell.

    SCRIPTURES

Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." Matthew 19:14 NIV

My dear brothers and sisters, how can you claim to have faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ if you favor some people over others? For example, suppose someone comes into your meeting dressed in fancy clothes and expensive jewelry, and another comes in who is poor and dressed in dirty clothes. If you give special attention and a good seat to the rich person, but you say to the poor one, “You can stand over there, or else sit on the floor”—well, doesn’t this discrimination show that your judgments are guided by evil motives? James 2:1-4 NLT

Yes indeed, it is good when you obey the royal law as found in the Scriptures: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” But if you favor some people over others, you are committing a sin. You are guilty of breaking the law. James 2:8-9 NLT

The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it? Jeremiah 17:9 NKJV

When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, “Will you give me a drink?” (His disciples had gone into the town to buy food.) The Samaritan woman said to him, “You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?” (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans.) Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.” John 4:7-10 NIV

Jodie talks about her new book, Praying the Scriptures for Your Marriage. Listen in as she reminds us that this is not about “fixing” your spouse, but bringing your cares and concerns to God. As we do that, He softens our hearts, knits our hearts together, and goes to work.

    ABOUT OUR GUEST

Jodie Berndt is a popular speaker and the author of ten books, including the bestselling Praying the Scripturesseries for Children, Teens, and Adult Children. They have four married children and two grandchildren and live in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

    SCRIPTURES

The LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.” Genesis 2:18 NIV

Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. Ephesians 5:1-2 NIV

Oh, that their hearts would be inclined to fear me and keep all my commands always, so that it might go well with them and their children forever! Deuteronomy 5:29 NIV

For it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure. Philippians 2:13 NKJV

For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless. LORD Almighty, blessed is the one who trusts in you. Psalm 84:11-12 NIV

“I’ve loved you the way my Father has loved me. Make yourselves at home in my love. If you keep my commands, you’ll remain intimately at home in my love.” John 15:9 MSG

Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Philippians 2:3-4 ESV
