    Micheaux Mission

Vincent Williams and Len Webb have started an amazing journey to watch and review every African-American film released in theaters. Their passion project, the Micheaux Mission, honors Oscar Micheaux, a trailblazing Black filmmaker. Their enthusiasm and dedication are truly inspiring as they seek the perfect wine to pair with Pam Grier’s Coffy, find five movies since 1985 that don’t feature Samuel L. Jackson, and connect with other film fans who share Len’s view on The Last Dragon. Their commitment to celebrating and examining African-American cinema is both commendable and uplifting. Welcome to the Mission!

Introducing of Some of My Best Friends Are... Sep 23, 2021
    Show notes

This week, we're sharing an episode of Some of My Best Friends Are...

The show is hosted by Khalil Muhammad and Ben Austen, two best friends who grew up together on the South Side of Chicago in the '80s. Khalil is Black; Ben is white. They invite listeners into their conversations about the absurdities and intricacies of race in America. Mixing anecdotes, entertaining storytelling, and thoughtful debate, Some of My Best Friends Are... helps listeners make sense of our deeply divided country.

In this episode, they look back at two classic Interracial Buddy Films and their dynamic in pop culture: 48 Hours and Lethal Weapon. They ask: How did these films, and others like them, shape a generation of moviegoers' views on racism and law enforcement? What did they say about being white and Black men of the time?
