The Harder They Fall (2021) w Van Everette and Dana Dane Aug 17, 2023

Show notes

Vincent and Len welcome Van Everette and Dana Dane of the popular syndicated The Scenario Radio Show just in time for chatter about The Blindside, Diff'rent Strokes, Six Degrees of Woody Strode & Chief Dan George, and a cringeworthy Top 5 Django. And then, it's time (00:45) to talk about Jonathan Majors, Regina King, Idris Elba, Delroy Lindo, and especially Zazie Beetz in director Jeymes Samuel's lyrical feature film debut, The Harder They Fall.

Carib Gold (1957) Aug 10, 2023

Show notes

Cicely Tyson (and a young, energetic Geoffrey Holder) makes her feature film debut, and the great Ethel Waters nears the end of the road at the top of the call sheet in this 'diamond in the rough' YouTubed for your enjoyment by ReelBlack. That's about the only thing it has going for it (besides the sweaty villainy of Richard Ward), but this ep offers a TOP FIVE Black Gold Movies, SIX DEGREES of Lorraine Toussaint and Romany Malco, FadesGiving, Romper Room, and much more.

He Got Game (1998) Jul 27, 2023

Jar Jar’s Long Hollywood History | The Redemption of Jar Jar Binks Jul 26, 2023

Show notes

This week, we’re sharing an episode of The Redemption of Jar Jar Binks, a new podcast from the TED Audio Collective. It’s a six-part series that reckons with one of the most divisive characters in cinematic history, the online hatred he inspired, and what we can learn from it today.

In this episode, host Dylan Marron goes beyond the fandom backlash and goes into some of the deeper questions about the character. Why did many see Jar Jar as a racial stereotype? What does that say about Jar Jar’s place in the world of Star Wars and Hollywood history overall? And how did all of the frenzy affect the actor who brought the character to life?

If you’d like to hear the rest of the series, follow The Redemption of Jar Jar Binks wherever you get your podcasts.

Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.

Jason's Lyric (1994) with Stephanye Watts Jul 19, 2023

The Top 5 looks at Vincent's favorite Jason movies while Len challenges his partner to go Six Degrees of D'Urville Martin to Jason Issacs and Jason Robards. And (00:47) Stephanye has definitive thoughts on the timelessness of Jason's Lyric, despite the many accents of Allen Payne and Jada Pinkett-Smith.
