WGB #130: Ready For Some Buck Ball! Dec 21, 2021
    Show notes

The Buck Showalter era is here and the boys are buzzing! This is as close to a perfect hire as you're gonna get for a franchise that needs to turn things around and re-establish a winning culture in the clubhouse. Not only does Buck have the baseball pedigree and temperament for New York, but he's got one hell of a baseball name to go along with it. Bucking right we're excited! The guys give their initial thoughts on the hiring, highlight his biggest statements from the introductory press conference and we look ahead to how he'll fit in with the personalities on the team and in the front office. It won't always be smooth sailing, but with Buck steering the ship we gotta believe that he'll get us through any rough patches we might hit along the way.

WGB #129: MAD MAX IS NEW YORK MET Nov 29, 2021
    Show notes

To all of the Uncle Stevie haters, of which there were WAY TOO MANY, crawl back into your holes because you're never seeing the light of day again after this. The richest owner in baseball did what we knew he would do and spent more money over the course of 5 days than anyone could have even imagined! Maxwell Scherzer is a New York Metropolitan, Eppler obliterated the AAV record and Mad Max will be earning a yearly income that eclipses full franchises! That's what Steve Cohen does! He listens to your criticisms, tells you to go scratch and then drops his wallet on the table and moves mountains. There is no going back after this, the guard has been changed, the league is on notice and the Amazin's have the largest payroll in Major League Baseball. You thought the 5-year plan was a stretch? Well we just kicked into hyperdrive so you better buckle up bitch cause where we're going we don't need (holiday) roads. CASH IS KING, COHEN IS KING, YA GOTTA BELIEVE.

WGB #128: Cousin Billy's Black Friday Blowout! Nov 28, 2021
    Show notes

Clem and Kyle fire up an emergency pod to talk about Billy Eppler's explosive Black Friday signings. Eduardo Escobar, Mark Canha and Starling Marte mark the team's turnaround and the tip of the iceberg for much bigger spending. The guys break down each player, how they'll fit into the scheme and clubhouse and which players should still be on Billy Boy's radar. This was the sign we've all been waiting for. The proof that Steve Cohen can flash the cash and the players will line up. Now that we've got a professional outfield and super utility players to lengthen the bench, it's time to set our sights on pitching. The December doomsday clock is already counting down and work stoppage is on the horizon so there will almost certainly be a lot more news and a lot more pods on the way as the Mets aim to wash the disappoint of last year out of their mouths and take back the East. We gotta believe that this is the time we've been waiting for so make sure to follow along on Twitter (@gottabelievepod) and Instagram (@wegottabelieve) to stay up to date on all the news as it happens!

WGB #127: Orange and Blue Balls Nov 16, 2021
    Show notes

Turns out Thor is more two-faced than Loki as Noah Syndergaard double crossed the Amazin's and skipped town for California. The one time "ace-in-waiting" never fully lived up to anyone's lofty expectations, but we were hopeful for a comeback with the qualifying offer. There were no guarantees that he would take it, but based on his comments and social media posts we thought it was a foregone conclusion. Turns out he wanted to let us down one last time on his way out the door, thus closing the book on the of the Mets' arsenal of aces that we thought would lead us to multiple championships way back in 2015. Instead, like all who have come before him, he parts ways from Flushing with a sour taste in his mouth. The guys break down what Syndergaard meant to the team, his impact on the fans, the larger-than-life persona off the field with little results on it and where the hell we go from here. Make no mistakes about it, this news is shocking. Not because we thought we could rely on him long-term, but because now the Mets have some MASSIVE HOLES to fill in the rotation. Good thing our new GM is on the way? The Mets landed a GM and it ended up being a last resort instead of a first option. The newest general manager of the New York Metropolitans is Billy Eppler. Billy was meant to grab the headlines today and set the fanbase's minds at ease, but instead we're dealing with the Noah fallout. When one fire is put out, the next sparks up. Eppler received a terrible rap while with the Angels and gives fans reason to worry as he was seen as wasting the prime of Trout's career, however, he is a New York guy who rose quickly in the Yankees' ranks before heading west. He's described as a bright young leader who was served a raw deal by the Halos, but whether or not that's true is anyone's guess. Only time will tell on whether Billy Boy is our guy, but one thing's for certain, we gotta believe that he's just a stepping stone to greater things ahead.

WGB #126: From Black Edge to Black Balled? Nov 05, 2021
    Show notes

We tried waiting for positive news as long as we could, but with the recent news of Raquel Ferreira declining an interview for the Mets vacant GM position, the guys had to jump on the pod to discuss what has been going on with this ball club. It makes ZERO SENSE that the Mets haven't even been able to set up an interview for their president of baseball ops or GM positions and we're breaking out the tin foil hats and saying somethings a foot. We knew that the owners weren't thrilled about voting in Uncle Stevie at first, but to allow him to buy the team only to block him from hiring any suitable candidates is OUTRAGEOUS. Sure, some of the people on the short list were stretches, but we're basically trying to hire the equipment room stock boy at this point and aren't having any luck. A few excuses carry weight, but when you have under qualified, glorified statisticians claiming "lack of experience" is the reason they are turning down a multi-million dollar job, it leads us to believe that baseball has blackball-ed our franchise. The guys break down the timeline of events, who the most recent targets have been and how (if at all) we can overcome this for 2022. You know it's never good when we're rooting for a work stoppage, but we gotta believe that there's shadowy figures behind the scenes preventing this team from getting good. Pray for Mets Fans everywhere.

WGB #125: Rojas Is No Mas Oct 05, 2021
    Show notes

It's Black Monday for the Mets and Luis Rojas was the first out the door. We're sure that more heads will roll before the off-season is over, but Luis' name was definitely at the top of everyone's list. The guys jump on to discuss his stressful tenure, we weigh the option of actually keeping him around in another roll and we take a look at the far too early list of candidates that could fill the role. We also list the names on the chopping block and trade bait and look to the free agent market to hopefully answer the numerous questions we still have with this roster. BONUS: During today's episode we got a special phone call from White Sox Dave who had a scoop on a name that many players are already pulling for to take on the Mets' manager role. It's day one of the off-season, but we gotta believe it's already off to a good start!

WGB #124: Ding Dong, The Season's Dead Sep 30, 2021
    Show notes

Clem and Kyle pick up the shattered pieces of a bygone season and try to make sense of what happened. We've had plenty of time to let it all sink in, but any time you're setting records for the longest time spent in first place for a losing team you know you've been through the ringer. We also break down Sandy's comments regarding Javy Baez and Luis Rojas, weigh in on Stroman, Syndergaard and Conforto's upcoming free agency and preview our picks on who should stay and go for 2022. The season is just about wrapped up, but we gotta believe that this lit a fire under Uncle Stevie to get right back to work on October 3rd. Big changes are about to be underway and we can't wait to see what they do next!

WGB #123: Polar Bear, Pete Alonso In the Building Sep 20, 2021
    Show notes

Huge episode today for the boys! We kick it off with a little weekend recap and some front office rumors, but we gotta believe we’re just spinning our wheels here with 12 games left to play. THE BIG NEWS is we finally got the Polar Bear, Pete Alonso, in studio to answering Mets’ fans burning questions. We talked about the struggles of this year’s squad, his HR derby performances, what it’s like to be a superstar in New York, dealing with fans on social media, thumbs down-gate and more! Pete was a pleasure and exudes that confidence you’re looking for from the face of the franchise. We asked him about his positivity and he gave us some inside info on how he’s able to clear out the negativity and move on with his job. The team might not be performing up to our liking right now, but a new process is underway in Queens and we’re just getting started on a much grander plan!

WGB #122: Sad State Of The Season Sep 16, 2021
    Show notes

Let's been honest here, we all knew this was coming. After August we tricked ourselves into thinking there was a chance to turn it back around but we lost too much ground too quickly and couldn't regain our footing in time. The Cardinals' sweep of the Mets this week essentially marks the end of any postseason campaign and has forced Mets fans to look back on what could have been and ahead to what could be. KFC and Clem discuss the Post report about Cohen's Twitter, Sandy's confidant and Rojas' 'return.' We address the fanbase and their impact on the growth of the club and remind everyone that this is just year one so if you're not on board, get on board because Stevie's staying and we gotta believe that this was just a bump in the road on the highway to success.

WGB #121: A Subway Series For The Ages Sep 13, 2021
    Show notes

Very rarely does a match-up live up to the hype, but this weekend's Subway Series had EVERYTHING. The drama, the pageantry, the emotion and the raw aggression that you could only dream of between these two teams. The guys break down each game in the series, we talk about the incredible job that they did with the September 11th ceremonies and we are officially ready to declare our love to the Boos Brothers: Javy and Frankie In a year of ups and downs, this series was the embodiment of a full length season. The best part of it all? Francisco Lindor finally had his Mets Moment and waged war on the Yankees lineup and pitching staff. No one was safe from his fury and it got us feeling like it was '86. The swag, the bravado, the villainous nature- It's the PERFECT COMBO when you have those guys playing for YOUR team. Let's face it, Mets are at their best when they love to be hated and that's the cocktail that we have going at the moment. Week to week we feel like we have completely different teams, but as long as our big dogs are cleaning up at the plate and our pitching holds out we gotta believe that we have a shot at both the division and wildcard spots with 18 left to play.
