    #147 MCU 2019 Year-in-Review Dec 28, 2019
    Show notes

Marvel Studios enjoyed its biggest year ever in 2019, and so did the fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe! Black Panther made history as the first superhero-based movie to be nominated for a Best Picture Oscar. Captain Marvel, Avengers: Endgame, and Spider-Man: Far From Home each topped $1 billion worldwide. Endgame actually did it twice on the way to becoming the highest-grossing film in global box office history! After The Infinity Saga came to a close, we learned all about Phase Four via Marvel Studios' Comic-Con and D23 Expo announcements. We spent a month worrying that Spider-Man was leaving the MCU before Disney and Sony finally got a deal done. Then, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige picked up the additional title of Marvel Chief Creative Officer, making him responsible for all Marvel creative on the big screen, small screen, and on the comic book page. We discuss all of these stories and more in this 2019 year-in-review!

#146 Marvel Television is no more, but don’t blame Marvel Studios Dec 12, 2019
    Show notes

Marvel Television is no more. We already knew the division was being absorbed into Marvel Studios, but now we know much more about how the consolidation is taking shape. Did Marvel Studios play a part in Marvel TV's demise? Hardly, as Marvel TV's fate had already been sealed, perhaps necessitating this reorganization in the first place. It's time to recap what we already knew, what's happening now, and what it all means in the near and distant future for Marvel content on the small screen!

We've got our first look at the first film in Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Marvel Studios is already crushing it. We break down the awesome teaser trailer for Black Widow shot-by-shot in this episode! We examine what this movie means for Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson) and how it could impact the future of the MCU, even if it's set in the past.

#144 New Marvel Studios release dates, ’The Infinity Saga’ box set review, and more! Nov 20, 2019
    Show notes

It's a busy week! We begin with new Marvel Studios release dates in 2022 and 2023. What movies can we expect to fill these dates? Can Marvel Studios handle four movies per year along with its Disney+ series? Then, we review The Infinity Saga Collector's Edition box set with a complete breakdown of all of the exclusive material on the bonus disc. Finally, we look at some Avengers: Endgame surprises on Disney+ and examine the future of how we will watch Marvel (and other) movies at home.

#143 Will audiences ever feel Marvel fatigue? Nov 08, 2019
    Show notes

We begin this week's episode with the exciting news that Peyton Reed will direct the third film in the Ant-Man franchise! Then, we discuss our featured topic: Marvel fatigue. Disney executives say they're not worried about it, but should they be? With Marvel Studios about to increase its output dramatically (especially in 2021), we look at the ways Kevin Feige and company have and can continue to maintain the audience's appetite for more Marvel!

#142 Avengers: Damage Control spoiler review Oct 29, 2019
    Show notes

This week, we step inside the Marvel Cinematic Universe with our SPOILER review of Avengers: Damage Control! Marvel Studios and ILMxLAB have created a dream-come-true virtual reality experience that put us right in the middle of a battle between The Avengers (of which we're now members) and Ultron, and we survived to tell the tale. We discuss every detail before looking to the future to explore additional opportunities in this new storytelling space and whether or not such adventures should officially be part of the MCU canon.

#140 Spider-Man stays in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Kevin Feige works on Star Wars Oct 02, 2019
    Show notes

It was a massive week in Marvel Studios news! Spider-Man will remain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, for now, after Sony Pictures and Disney signed a new deal. Kevin Feige sounds like he's okay with the idea of Tom Holland jumping from the MCU to Sony's Universe of Marvel Characters (and perhaps back to the MCU from there). Speaking of the Marvel Studios boss, he's also developing a Star Wars movie, leading to questions about his future at Marvel Studios and The Walt Disney Company. We've got all of these topics covered in this episode!
