    Mastermind Parenting Podcast

Welcome to Randi Rubenstein’s Mastermind Parenting Podcast. So, the big question is this – How do parents like us know that we aren’t messing up the biggest role of our lives, especially when we happen to have a strong-willed kiddo that is constantly pushing our buttons? We’ve all heard that kids don’t come with a manual, so how can we know for sure that we are saying the right things or that we’re getting this parenting thing right. On this podcast for parents of toddlers to teens, we’ll be giving you real tools you can use right away so that your kids will feel like they can talk to you about absolutely anything and everything. At Mastermind Parenting, we believe when your thoughts grow, the conversations in your home flow. This podcast will help you make a crucial shift in your home from the old lecturing style to convos that feel collaborative, connecting and most importantly…PRODUCTIVE.

MMP88: Talkin’ Smack About Our Kids Nov 12, 2019
    Show notes

Our convo this week includes a clip from my Mastermind where I discuss a 1968 study done in a school called the Pygmalion Effect.

The Pygmalion effect is the phenomenon whereby others' expectations of a person affect the person's performance. The bottom line is that what we think and say about a child has the ability to greatly impact their future success. So remember, your words have power...when you speak unkindly about your kids, it represents what you’re really thinking or worried about and those thoughts can hinder their performance and their life. Think better thoughts. Say useful words. Find a new narrative. Encourage and support your kids. And if your kids aren’t “doing well”, get curious and figure out why. Learn how to support your kids so that they have the brightest future possible. THEY deserve it!

MMP86: 3 Tips to Improve Behavior (since lecturing, punishing and yelling isn’t working) Oct 29, 2019
    Show notes

In this episode, I’m sharing an audio of me coaching a mom in the Mastermind whose 17month old was starting to display aggression towards her. I role play in this clip how to focus on the skill-building rather than the mistake or misbehavior. Remember, what we focus on grows. We want to uncover the root of the behavior to effectively teach new skills rather than putting the emphasis on the problem and accidentally reinforcing the negative behavior. Enjoy!

MMP85: From Stagnation to Transformation: Creating the Family You Crave Oct 22, 2019
    Show notes

In this week’s conversation, I talk about the big difference between staying stuck vs. how to truly create the life and family you know you’re meant to have. This is a concept that you can apply to pretty much any area of your life where you don’t yet have the outcome you want...from peace in your family, to the career or even your version of your ideal body and appearance. Yes, I like to feel and look great. I believe that we all deserve to love our lives. This episode will help you get started in the area of creating the family and peace you crave in your household and then...the sky’s the limit. Enjoy!

MMP82: Top Tips to Make Memories While Making it Through Little Kid Years Oct 01, 2019
    Show notes

In this episode, I share some in the trenches Mama tips with my Mastermind moms. The mom that I was coaching was frustrated with the afternoon environment in her home. The boys were overtired and there was a lot of fighting, crying and tension. I walked Mom through a realistic plan, some practical tips and helpful ways to shift her mindset and embrace her reality.

So often it’s more a mindset shift than anything else. It’s about learning to stop “resisting what is” that will allow you to create peaceful afternoons. Little kids are freaking exhausting AND the long days will become a memory sooner than you may realize, especially if you learn how to master your mind. I think you’ll learn some helpful tips in this coaching clip. Enjoy!

MMP81: “We Can Do Hard Things”: Building Resilience & Grit in Our Kids Sep 24, 2019
    Show notes

This week’s episode is a clip from a coaching call in the Mastermind. I talk about how it affects your kids when you’re going through a hard time like divorce, a cheating spouse, health problems...unfortunate stuff adults go through. I discuss tactics to use and how to have a useful mindset when “life happens”. We cover the yin/yang in life, building resilience and grit and the goal of teaching our kids that difficult moments in time won’t break us.

MMP80: When the “Easy” One Started Acting Up: Live Coaching Clip from the Mastermind Sep 17, 2019
    Show notes

In this episode, you’ll hear me coaching one of my Mastermind Mamas about her almost 3 year old who has suddenly become “destructo” girlie. I use Mastermind Parenting Pillar 2: All Behavior is Communication as the foundation to get curious and problem solve with her and uncover the root to little sister’s sudden troublesome actions (like throwing all the dinner napkins on the ground and knocking down older brother’s Lego creation).

I think you’ll enjoy hearing how we spin the scenario to see it differently to change Mom’s mindset and thoughts. Then I coach her and role-play how different it would look when she handles the situation with her new thinking. Oh and I think you’ll love my singing voice. Enjoy!

MMP79: Our Love/Hate Relationship With Screens: A Convo About Becoming “Indistractable” with Nir Eyal Sep 10, 2019
    Show notes

In this episode, I sat down with author, speaker, Stanford grad and professor, Nir Eyal. I had the pleasure of reading a pre-released copy of his latest book, Indistractable. It’s a must-read for anyone, like me, that has trouble putting your phone down. We can’t expect our kids to have a handle on the screen thing unless we hold ourselves accountable too. My family’s screen use and struggles have been reduced by half because of Nir's impact. You guys are going to love him. Enjoy!
