Episode 406: Mental Health, Shadow Work, and Self-Care with Sekeithia Sep 15, 2021
    Show notes

This week’s guest is Sekeithia, and she is the epitome of “making noise.” I came to know her through TikTok and was immediately drawn to her way of being herself on social media and encouraging others to do the same. She often shares openly about her mental health journey, sobriety, self-care, and is a motivator to her community of followers.

Making noise is about a lot of different things, and it is often about looking at life’s challenges as invitations to show up in your life. In this episode we discuss shining bright when others are trying to dim your light, mental health and self-care, and learning to trust yourself. Be sure to follow Sekeithia over on TikTok. And remember, this episode (and all of the others in this series) are on video. Head over to YouTube to watch!

    In this episode you’ll hear:

    • Sekeithia shares about her mental health journey with bipolar disorder, suicide attempts, and drug abuse. “Mental health was not a conversation we had around the dinner table.” (4:20)
    • What her mental health self-care looks like today. (10:21)
    • Sekeithia shares about a time she ignored her intuition and had to learn a hard lesson, and how that changed going forward. “Intuition is about trusting yourself.” (14:30)
    • How the question, “Why do you always feel the need to be the brightest in the room?,” dimmed her light and how she began to shine again. (24:35)
    • How Sekeithia defines self-confidence. (29:10)
    • We dive into shadow work: what it is and how it helps. (32:40)

She is the author of “relatable: How to Connect with Anyone Anywhere (Even if It Scares You).” Rachel has also been featured on a multitude of media outlets including The TODAY Show, Access Hollywood Live, and Fox News. 403.5 Bonus Episode: Happy Birthday to Make Some Noise! Aug 31, 2021
    Show notes

I have a very special bonus episode for you today because today is the publication day (aka birthday) of my third book, Make Some Noise: Speak Your Mind and Own Your Strength. 🎉

As my book is released to the world, I've been thinking a lot about legacy. As an author and with this book in particular, the dedication is to my daughter, Sydney and my mother and to her mother and her mother and her mother.

I dedicated it to them because they are the most important women in my life and part of my legacy. And I’ve been thinking about what I am going to leave behind when I’m no longer earthside.

The biggest, most important thing that we put meaning on is our own life. What's it all for? I think that the reason that we are here and the biggest part of our legacy is the relationships that we have with the people in our life.

I've told you all the story about when my life completely fell apart in 2006. And it was the first time I had so much clarity amidst all the drama. And I thought, how did I get here? And then a realization that this was not where I was meant to be.

That was the moment I decided to change my life. It was not linear. It was not perfect. It was 15 years ago and there's been a lot of ups and downs. There's been a lot of hard conversations with myself and with other people. And I can tell you most definitely that I've truly never been more grateful for anything in my life because it takes intention and total consciousness to make changes.

It is things like speaking your mind, owning your strength, making noise, speaking up for yourself.

It’s giving an opinion and learning how to set boundaries.

Making noise is understanding what your values are and acting on them.

It’s getting help for any addictions that you have.

It’s going to therapy and getting really honest with yourself and your therapist.

Making noise is doing any kind of trauma therapy that you might need digging into your family of origin, looking at the habits and behaviors that you have, and getting really curious about them, instead of beating yourself up about them.

I mostly talk to women and write books for them, so all of that is an act of making noise. Women's empowerment is an act of rebellion because we are pushing up against the cultural norms, standards, programming, and socialization that we've all received. Learning, growing, and the relationships we create along the way are part of the legacy we leave.

I am so excited to share the release of Make Some Noise with this wonderful community. It’s time to make some noise, speak your mind, and own your strength.

Episode 401: Power, Money, and Women’s Empowerment with Susan Hyatt Aug 11, 2021
    Show notes

Welcome to the first episode in a special Make Some Noise series where I speak with eight, handpicked women who are making noise in their lives, taking up space, and shining brightly. I created this series as a way to celebrate the release of my third book, Make Some Noise (coming out August 31st...BUT you can pre-order now!), and a celebration of women. I am ready to share these conversations with you to help empower you to make some noise in your life.

Susan Hyatt helps me kick off the series with a conversation about women’s empowerment through economic means, owning your power, and asking for what you want. Susan Hyatt is a Master Certified Life & Business Coach, best-selling author, TEDx speaker, and the queen of helping women create what they crave in life.

    In this episode you’ll hear:

    • Susan answers the question, “Was there a time in your life where you realized you weren’t asking for what you wanted, and if so, how did you change that?” (9:54)

    • We talk about money and power, including Susan’s definition of power, and how women can help themselves be more comfortable with their own power. (18:57)
    • How women hold themselves back from making more money. (23:59)
    • Susan has dealt with a lot of mean girls since she put herself out there so much, and we know this is due to women’s insecurities and internalized misogyny. Susan shares her thoughts on her experience and talks about what we can do to disrupt our own internalized sexism and misogyny. (33:49)
    • Last, but certainly not least, we talk about pleasure, specifically what stands in the way the most for women to embrace their pleasure more. (42:53)
