Home Organization: Cleaning Your Home Through Responsible Consumption with Amanda Sullivan Nov 20, 2019
    Show notes

When was the last time you took a good, long look at your home and thought it was as clean and organized as it could be? In today’s busy, fast-paced world, home organization often tends to fall by the wayside unconsciously. Amanda Sullivan, the author of Organized Enough: The Anti-Perfectionist’s Guide to Getting – and Staying – Organized, discusses how “going with the flow” might just help you get your home – and your life – as organized as possible. A change in the way space looks and feels starts from the way one thinks about that space. Who knows, beneath all the clutter, you might just discover a new way to use that space. — I am super excited to have a special guest on the show, another fellow professional organizer. Her name is Amanda Sullivan. Welcome to the show, Amanda.

Thank you. I’m happy to be here.

Amanda is coming on from Manhattan and we are both trying not to freeze our butts off because we are in New York, in the tundra. I want to go ahead and welcome you to the show. Thank you so much for being here. I want to let everybody know that Amanda, besides being another organizer since 1999, is the Founder of the Perfect Daughter: Chaos Control. She is also the author of Organized Enough: The Anti-Perfectionist’s Guide to Getting-and Staying-Organized which we’re going to chat about. You live in Manhattan with your husband and your three children. How old are your kids, Amanda?

The oldest one is nineteen. He’s not around so much. I have fourteen-year-old twins.

Are they boys or girls or one of each?

    One of each.

Let’s talk about that. I have a five-year-old son and a seventeen-year-old daughter. How are you handling these twins at fourteen?

With all the wisdom I gained from my now nineteen-year-old. It’s a lot about anti-perfectionism and letting go. My work and my personal life have a lot of relation to one another. Breathe, have faith, don’t be too controlling.

I feel like that’s so funny that you said that because I’m starting to learn how to let go of some of my control with my seventeen-year-old but I’m not going to lie, it’s hard.

It’s hard but sometimes they rip off the Band-Aid for you.

I get this question all the time. Which ones are like you that are organized?

I find it fascinating because despite the fact that I’m organized but my husband is not, each kid is totally different and unique. I used to say my older son was pretty organized for a boy. My younger son is neat. He’s not perfectly neat. He’s a fourteen-year-old boy but there’s methodicalness to him. My daughter is super creative and when she was little, she would gather from all over. I’d say to my son, “It’s time to put away the toys.” He’d put all the Legos back in the Lego basket. I’d say it’s time to clean up to my daughter. She would throw herself down and sob. I’d look and I think, it’s much harder for her because on this doll stroller she has a doll, my evening bag, a whisk, her brother’s Lego, she spent the entire game gathering from all over the house. It was much harder to put it away. She’s super creative. They’re all their own people.

It’s good practice for clients, right?

    That’s right and vice versa.

You started your business in 1999. I started my business in 2001. We’ve been doing this for a long time and so much has changed. One of the things I was cracking up, I have to tell you this, on the back of your book,

You Are Uniquely Qualified with Jacinda Jacobs Oct 14, 2019
    Show notes

Choosing the right path to fulfillment involves numerous obstacles including breaking work contracts and leaving your profession. Jacinda Jacobs took control of her life and walked away from her TV and radio life and went on a self-discovery journey with God. A motivational speaker and the author of Uniquely Qualified, she shares how she helps other women find their divine purposes as well as how she started a women’s conference. Know how you can veer towards going after what you want to achieve by learning more about Jacinda’s program in this episode. — I am so excited because we started a brand-new season on the show. I have a very special guest in store for you that I know you’re going to love. Her name is Jacinda Jacobs. Welcome to the show, Jacinda.

Jennifer, thank you for having me. I’m excited for us to chit-chat.

I’m excited for you to be here. I feel like this is completely part of our divine meeting and we’re going to share with the audience why I’m saying that. We both know, you and I would not be here right now if it wasn’t for a divine intervention from our Heavenly Father. Thank you, Jesus, for that first of all. Thank you, Jacinda, for coming on.

Thank you, God. You’re exactly right, I couldn’t have said it better myself.

I want to you tell us a little bit about your backstory and then we’ll go into how we even met. How did you get to where you are now?

I started my media journey several years ago. I started on morning radio and then transitioned into television news. I’m that girl that you always see on TV or hear on the radio. I was doing weather, I was reporting, morning anchoring and all that fun stuff. Then God started to stir something up inside of me. I thought my whole life that that’s what I had worked for is to get into media, get into that spotlight. Then I realized that there was so much more in me and God was calling me to leave the industry. In 2014, my boss was giving me a major promotion at the television station and with a lot of prayers, a lot of tears. Not only did I walk away from the promotion, but I asked my general manager if he would help me break my contract with the TV station, which he replied. I saw him and I was like, “You’re in my book. You are part of my story, Jim.”

Jim said, “There was a calling on my life years ago and I never answered it. I’ll do everything in my power to help you answer yours.” He helped me get out of my contract. To this day, I still work for the TV station, but it’s on a different basis. I do cool fun stories with me and my husband, but when I left full-time, I went into prison ministry. I started this journey of self-discovery of trying to figure out who am I in God? Who did God create me to be? What is my mission in the world? I wrote this book called Uniquely Qualified. I started a Bible study community called Stolen Lunches, which is a nonprofit and it’s global. I started a Uniquely Qualified women’s conference. It travels to different cities. I’m pushing women to stop making excuses and to walk into their divine purpose.

The second you step out on faith, you can’t describe the miracles that start to The second you step out on faith, you can’t describe the miracles that start to pour into your life.Click To Tweet

I want to take a step back for a second because I should have told the readers that you are in Charlotte, North Carolina right now. That’s where you’re a local celebrity girl. The funny thing is that I used to live in Charlotte also. For those who have read my previous season, I was talking all the time about my conference called Created Order and going back to C…

A Mom’s Practical Guide to Getting Organized with Laurie Palau Jun 22, 2019
    Show notes

Clutter takes up space. Whether it is physical, emotional, or mental, clutter takes away the time and place that we would rather have to be more productive. Laurie Palau, the author of the book, Hot Mess: A Practical Guide to Getting Organized, sets us up for a more organized life as she motivates us to become more organized through her advice and tips. As a mother herself raising teenagers who also juggles being the host of the weekly podcast, This Organized Life, and the Founder of Simply B Organized, Laurie is very familiar with the struggles women have of trying to integrate multiple roles in their lives. She shares her own way of achieving work-life integration and keeping her time organized in the midst of it all. On the parenting side, Laurie lets us in on how she makes her kids stay organized – from parental controls to keeping their stuff. —

    Listen to the podcast here:

A Mom’s Practical Guide To Getting Organized with Laurie Palau I am going to be bringing you a very special guest, my organizing friend, Laurie Palau. She is going to come on and we’re going to talk about everything from organization to raising teenagers. Welcome to the show, Laurie.

Thank you so much for having me.

Laurie is the author of the book, Hot Mess: A Practical Guide to Getting Organized. She also is the host of the weekly podcast called This Organized Life. She’s the Founder of Simply B Organized where she speaks, teaches, and works one-on-one with clients to help them reduce clutter and increased productivity. Laurie’s advice has been featured in the New York Times Parenting Section, Family Circle, Home & Table Magazine. She can also be seen sharing tips on 6ABC and WFMZ in addition to other radio and podcast interviews. When she’s not organizing the world, Laurie can be found at home in Bucks County, Pennsylvania with her husband, Josh, same as mine, two girls, two dogs. She loves coffee and Tito’s Vodka. In her spare time, she is actively involved in St. Baldrick’s Foundation, which raises funding for pediatric cancer research. We already knew that we had a lot in common, Laurie. I did not know that you have a husband named Josh like me and loved Tito’s like me.

Those are two things we did not discuss. I don’t know which was the bigger shame. I think it’s probably the Tito’s.

We met through another organizer, Jen Kilbourne I think the first time we talked on the phone and it’s just one of those things when you meet somebody and you’re like, “Where have you been my whole life?” I want to talk about your book. I want to talk about organizing. I love having other organizers on the show because although we are very similar, hopefully there’s another spin on something that the audience can know from you. I think you’ve been doing organizing for several years.

As my day job, I’d be doing it for several years but like so many other people, it’s something that you’ve been doing for a lot longer. I’ve had Simply B Organized. I started the end of 2008 and made it official. In 2009, a totally different landscape of the industry but I love it.

Imagining And Believing in Possibilities Jun 07, 2019
    Show notes

There is something so hopeful whenever we think of possibilities. Matthew 19:26 says, “With God, everything is possible.” It is in this verse that we can be assured that we can always reach for what we want as long as we believe. However, our inner skeptic tends to shy away from this and create moments of disbelief. Jennifer pulls us out of that cave and into the light that God provides for us where hope and possibilities exist. She lays down some great exercises that will allow us to reflect and pray over the things we are wishing for, helping us come to terms with the visions of endless possibilities we could have for ourselves. -------------------------
