Art, Activism, + The Gay Voice with Everett Quinton Oct 01, 2024
    Show notes

Today’s episode was recorded in December of 2021 and it is a passionate conversation I had with friend and colleague, Everett Quinton, a versatile mainstay of the downtown theater scene in New York as an actor, director and, for a decade, leader of the Ridiculous Theatrical Company.

I met Everett in 2004, working together in the Madison Square Garden National Tour of Rogers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella. In our conversation we reminisced about our time together in that show, he told stories about meeting Charles Ludlum, about becoming a member of The Ridiculous Theatre Company and embracing his distinctive social justice edge.

In this episode, we touch on...

    • his early childhood, realizing he had aspirations, + how he met Charles Ludlum and joined The Ridiculous Theatrical Co.
    • the history of the RTC and his discovery of drag + the genre of queer experimental theatre.
    • taking over the reins of the RTC in 1987 as artistic director.
    • his social justice streak + using his art to combat racism.
    • All this and so much more...

Everett Quinton, the award-winning actor, director, designer, playwright, and downtown legend sadly passed away in January of 2023. I share this episode again in celebration of his extraordinary life, his immense accomplishments, and for my gratitude for his friendship.

    #TheEdgeofEveryday #TheEdgeofEverydayPodcast #TheRidiculousTheatricalCompany

EVERETT QUINTON, is an actor, director and playwright and was a longtime member of Charles Ludlam's RIDICULOUS THEATRICAL COMPANY where he was an actor, director and costume designer, and from 1987- 1997, served as the Artistic Director. While there he appeared in over 75 productions including CAMILLE; BLUEBEARD; EXQUISITE TORTURE; TURDS IN HELL; CONQUEST OF THE UNIVERSE; UTOPIA, INC.; THE BELLS; MOVIELAND; GALAS; A TALE OF TWO CITIES (OBIE AWARD); and THE MYSTERY OF IRMA VEP (OBIE AND DRAMA DESK AWARDS); to name just a few.

Most recently, he starred, off Broadway, in the hit, DROP DEAD PERFECT produced by the Penguin Rep and directed by Joe Brancato and in ANTONY & CLEOPATRA at the McCarter Theatre Center. Everett recently directed the beautiful revival of Charles Ludlam's THE MYSTERY OF IRMA VEP at RedBull Theater.

Other credits include: TWELFTH NIGHT at The Arizona Theater Company, SHAKESPEARE IN HOLLYWOOD (HELEN HAYES AWARD) at Arena Stage in D.C., WOMEN BEWARE WOMEN (CALLOWAY AWARD) and THE WITCH OF EDMONTON at Redbull Theater, Tennessee William's NOW THE CAT'S WITH JEWELED CLAWS at The William's Festival in Provincetown and as part of LaMama's 50th Anniversary Season, Georg Osterman's DR. JEKYLL AND MR. HYDE and BROTHER TRUCKERS (Bessie Award); and Richard and Michael Simon's MURDER AT MINSING MANOR (Drama League Award); again, to name a few.

Everett has starred in in his own one-person show BITCH SLAPPED BY GOD at London's Drill Hall; Film and TV credits include THE LOUISE LOG, NURSE JACKIE, LOUIE, NATURAL BORN KILLERS, BIG BUSINESS, DEADLY ILLUSION, FOREVER LULU, MIAMI VICE, AND LAW & ORDER.

In 2011 Everett received the Off-Broadway Alliance Award: Legend of Off-Broadway

Jung, Shadow, Dreams, on the edge with Joseph lee of ‘This jungian life’ Sep 16, 2024
    Show notes

Today’s episode was recorded in January of 2022 and it is a wonderful conversation I had with my college friend, Joseph Lee, Jungian analyst and creator of the wildly popular podcast, This Jungian Life.

Joe and I met in our freshman year at Carnegie Mellon University in the BFA performing arts program, wide-eyed 18 year-olds fresh out of high school, tossed into an intense cauldron of creativity, confrontation, and uncompromising work.

It was a joy to revisit our conversation...we reminisced, laughed, told stories, and talked about shadow work and projection and how it can applied to our current polarized political landscape and to the human collective in general. Joseph gave a mini master class in Jungian psychological wisdom. I’m thrilled to share it with you today. Enjoy!

    In this conversation...

    • Joseph shares his youthful discovery of esoterica + acting, how it led to healing + somatic work, and further into Jungian psychology. J
    • joseph shares how and why he, along with 2 of his colleagues co-created their podcast, This Jungian Life.
    • Shadow work from a Jungian perspective, projection, judgement, and the “othering” of people.
    • We touched This Jungian Life Dream school - and Joseph analyzed one of my own dreams.

    * All this, and so much more...join us.

    #TheEdgeofEveryday #TheEdgeofEverydayPodcast #ThisJungianLife

JOSEPH LEE is a Jungian analyst, educator, national lecturer and podcast co-host.

Shortly after graduation, his interest shifted to integrative movement therapies, and he relocated to Charlottesville, VA, to train as an Alexander Technique Teacher. For the following 20 years, he focused on rehabilitative work with injured classical musicians. As his work with students progressed, his curiosity about the interface of somatic and psychological issues deepened. In service to that, he attained a master’s degree in clinical social work and a diplomate [/ ˈdipləˌmāt/] in Analytical Psychology.

Today Joseph Lee is a Jungian Analyst in private practice in Southern VA, focusing on masculine psychology and men’s issues. He is co-host and co-creator of the popular podcast This Jungian Life - and the online learning platform DreamSchool, where people learn how to interpret their own dreams.

In addition, he is president emeritus of The Philadelphia Association of Jungian Analysts that provides analytic training. He has lectured nationally on the Hermetic Qabalah and Western Mystery School traditions.
