We Were Made for These Times: A Special New Year Wish from Sandra Bargman Jan 01, 2025
    Show notes

A short, sweet, and special Happy New Year episode with your host, Sandra Bargman.
Sandra shares a reading of ‘We Were Made for These Times’ by Dr. Clarissa Pinkola
    Estes.
    “My Esteemed Ones –
Do not lose heart. We were made for these times. I have heard from so many recently who are deeply and properly bewildered. They are concerned about the state of affairs in our world now. Ours is a time of almost daily astonishment and often righteous rage over the latest degradations of what matters most to civilized, visionary people. You are right in your assessments.
The luster and hubris some have aspired to while endorsing acts so heinous against children, elders, everyday people, the poor, the unguarded, the helpless, is breathtaking.
Yet, I urge you, ask you, gentle you, to please not spend your spirit dry by bewailing these difficult times. Especially do not lose hope. Most particularly because, the fact is that we were made for these times.”
Wishing our listeners, guests, and everyone who contributes to and uplifts

Art, Grief, and the Power to Heal with Meg Flather Dec 16, 2024
    Show notes

How do we confront our grief when it feels particularly overwhelming during the
holidays? How do we stay present to our grief when we’ve lost a loved one? How do we
meet with our grief over the recent election here in the US or the collective grief we feel
over the atrocities happening around the world?
What is the role of art, creativity and the artist in our healing process?
Today we are #LIVEintheHIVE with multi-award-winning cabaret singer and
songwriter, Meg Flather. This episode was recorded in December of 2022, just
before Christmas, and it is a tender, poignant and passionate conversation I had
with my friend and colleague, Meg Flather about her one-woman show, Hold on
Tight… a Love Story, and how her creative life has been instrumental in her
    healing process.
Hold on Tight partners her original songs and stories from her book of the
same name about caring for a parent with dementia. The piece premiered
at The United Solo Theatre Festival in 2022 at NYC’s Theatre Row where it
won the festival’s award for Best Storytelling Show.
In this episode we touch on…
 Grief as a wintering and isolating emotion.
 Our collective fear of grief (and it’s well known mask, anger) and the
need to move in and through it.
 Meg and I met through our political connection through The Blue
Wave shows in the NYC cabaret scene, and navigating our political
landscape through our music and art.
 The power of ART to heal through connection + community.
 The powerful reason that called Meg into the Cabaret community in
    the 80’s.
 Meg shares the whole process of how she cared for her mother,
decided to write a book, crafted songs and created a one-woman
show – the power of storytelling as an act of service.
 The Role of the Artist – the creative artist as melancholic – a
willingness to stay present to the pain of grief, and to the
beauty of it to fuel a creation.
 Creating and DOING the show changed Meg.
 All this and SO much more…
Meg Flather is a two-time Bistro Award winner and a four-time Manhattan
Association of Cabaret and Clubs (MAC) Award winner who recently won
the 2021 BroadwayWorld.com Cabaret Award for Best Song.
Meg has released eight CDs of her original music (all of which are available
on Apple music). Meg has also authored two books that are now available
on Amazon: Home Shopping Diva. . . Lessons, Lyrics and Lipstick - and
Hold On Tight . . . a love story. Her new one-woman musical, Hold On
Tight, partners her original songs and stories from her book of the same
name about caring for a parent with dementia. The piece premiered at The
United Solo Theatre Festival this year at NYC’s Theatre Row where it won
the festival’s award for Best Storytelling Show.
In addition, she has written and recorded songs for independent films, Off-
Broadway, and on behalf of HIV/AIDS, 9/11, Alzheimer’s, Autism, suicide
awareness, political activism, and the Covid-19 pandemic.

There Is Not A Normal Human: Embodied Spirituality and Nuerodiversity with Kay Louise Aldred Dec 02, 2024
    Show notes

What is Embodied Spirituality? What is Somatic Shamanism? What is Neurodiversity?

Today we are #LIVEintheHIVE with author, teacher, and embodiment and spirituality orientated theologian Kay Louise Aldred for a compelling + educational conversation about spiritual needs, safe spaces, understanding the nervous system, embodied ways of knowing, and neurodiversity.

If you, like me, are somewhat new to the term neurodiversity, and its relationship to spirituality , this is the conversation for YOU!

Kay is a multi-passionate educator, prolific author, and leader committed to questioning and challenging the absence of the body and earth in education, mental health and religion/spirituality.

In this powerful conversation we touch on:

    * Her book, Somatic Shamanism: Your Fleshy Knowing as The Tree of Life, and she unpacks her understanding of shamanism and its potential appropriation.

    * Kays ’ spiritual journey from childhood, through anglican theology and having an academic (logos) understanding of spirituality, the discovery of liberation theology, into her embodied (eros) spirituality.

    * Her work with the nervous system which moved her into her understanding of her neurotype.

    * Spirituality > Nervous System > Neurodiversity

    * Understanding neurodiversity in profiles of strengths rather than on a spectrum.

    * What makes a safe space? What is an intentional space?

    * Kay and I planted the seeds for a future conversation around her grandmother and the Theatre of The Church!

    * All this and SO much more...

Kay Louise Aldred is a visionary change maker: a teacher, liberation, embodiment and spirituality orientated theologian, writer and published author. She catalyses individual, institutional and collective evolution and wellbeing - through education, embodiment and creative meaning making strategies - via interconnected insights and approaches which combine metacognition, intuition and instinct. As a trauma-informed mentor and facilitator, Kay offers online and in-person consultancy, training and resources.

Kay is autistic and passionate about increasing awareness of the strengths of neurodivergence. She is an Associate at Neurodiverse Connection, a neurodivergent-led, Community Interest Company, set up to improve support and outcomes for the neurodivergent population.
