On episode 52, fellow astrologer Maren Altman and I speak about creativity, and really creativity at a deeper level - beyond a specific project or the categories that creativity fits into like art-making, but creativity in terms of what it is cosmologically. We spoke of the process of actualizing one’s life and following one’s excitement as a kind of creativity. We also speak of how we, as fractals of the cosmos, participate in the expansion of the cosmos through our creative 'offspring' of all kinds.
Maren Altman is an astrologer living in New York City as she finishes her undergraduate degree at New York University. Her practice centers around combining ancient traditional Hellenistic techniques with modern psychological counseling dynamics in order to provide practical guidance to her clients.
She is interested in the long-term research of astrology as learning about the structure of reality, and she has plans to combine her astrology with her path of Philosophy graduate school in order to become a cosmological thought leader.
Maren is also a published fiction author, with her first novel, A Prisoner of Memory, now available on Amazon, and her second, Badflower, on the way. She is the founder of Rasi Collective, a website connecting spiritual practitioners with their ideal clients in order to make the online metaphysical world easier to maneuver.
Maren posts philosophical discourse and astrological content on her YouTube channel and on her podcast, Modern Magic, which centers around astrology, metaphysics, and grounding the woo of the spiritual path. On episode 50, I’m excited to bring you a conversation I had several weeks ago about the astrological centaurs with an evolutionary astrologer who specializes with the centaurs, David Leskowitz. We discussed Chiron, Pholus, Chariklo and Okyrhoe. Chiron is the most well-known of these, but even so it’s worth exploring Chiron deeper than the keyword “wounded healer” - what does that really mean?
I loved learning more about the centaurs and also feeling the energy of the centaurs directly in the conversation. David and I share a perspective that the archetypes are not just abstract ideas but beings. Pluto for example, is one of the archetypes I do the most work with. In my way of looking at it, Pluto is both a concept and a being. Venus is a concept, and a being. So it was a real pleasure to talk with someone whose like an intermediary between us and these beings, these centaurs - someone who has really spent time with them. I think you’ll find that David has a door-opening perspective on these centaurs.

Mark’s first book; Healing the Soul: Pluto, Uranus and the Lunar Nodes, explains in detail his astrological method. His second book; The Soul Speaks: the Therapeutic Potential of Astrology, fuses Mark’s experience as a transpersonal psychotherapist with astrology to outline the transformative potential of an astrological reading. From 15 years in private practice as a psychotherapist and astrologer---what has now been over 10,000 hours of client work---Mark has developed a model of transformational astrological counselling in which he works with individuals after the initial natal chart reading to support achievement of their true potential.
We spoke about the Pluto archetype and explored Virgo and Pluto in Virgo specifically, but this episode is full of universals, regardless of what we have in Virgo in our charts - we all have the experience of self-analysis, self-criticism, perfectionism, and learning how to relate to our pursuit of self-refinement and the capacity to be introspective and to analyze ourselves without falling into a great abyss of self-doubt in the process. The Pluto in Virgo generation were born roughly between 1957 - 1972 (but of course if you don’t know, look up the natal chart on astro.com) We also spoke about trauma-scanning (looking for fault in one’s environment), manifestation, the so-called ‘placebo’ effect and the power of belief, and finding grace and meaning in one’s own intimate corner of the universe… and more!

On episode 45, Diana Rose and I discussed the language we use in astrology (especially concerning Hellenistic/traditional concepts like “exalted”, “detriment”, “fall”, or the strength or weakness of a planet) and unpacking the layered meanings involved here in terms of connotation, how these words are misinterpreted, and what these words are more earnestly pointing to. We discussed how the astrological concept of essential dignity can be a tool for meaning-making, confronting personal challenges, and discovering how to connect with our inherent resources that our chart points to. We also talked about the connection between notable people and how they tend to be intensely embodying their natal chart, the twelfth house, and archetypes Diana’s been connecting with lately!
