There is a ton of news to cover this week as we prepare to say goodbye to the Season of Alola. With the Water Festival giving way to a last chance at Seasonal Spawns before the Alola to Alola event sweeps in, we still have plenty to do before we close the month. First we look back over the last week and how both the Water Festival and the Safari Zone in Seville have gone over great with the Community. This may have been the first week in a while where the general social sentiment was on the positive side of the fence.

Two announcements came this week involving Amazon Prime Gaming. First is a collaboration with Prime Student to bring May Community Day activations to select Universities. We think this is a great initiative and an awesome way to execute on some grass roots marketing. Next up is PGO being added to Prime Gaming Loot which will give Prime users some items to redeem every month.

In massive news, Niantic Social will be seeing a ton of new features come to Pokémon GO in the near future, some of which will be part of a stand alone Niantic App. We could see “near” in game communication and coordination come with this new app, which has been tested by select Ingress Agents in a closed beta over the last few months. It will be very interesting to see how the community adopts this tool and how it may disrupt existing Discord servers.

With Ticket Gifting going live in game we move on to the Alola to Alola event which will close out the month. While we still have questions on how the bonus ticket will work, Trainers will have some agency in how they choose to complete their last Special Research of the Season. Will it cause fomo or will Trainers not care? TIme will tell!

As we reach the midpoint of May, the in game events have been keeping Trainers satisfied and busy with a great blend of bonuses and spawns. With the announcement of GO Fest Berlin and Sapporo details, morale amongst the social community may be on the mend. In person events like Safari Zone Seville continue to push the point of returning to in person play.

The Water Festival is our current event and we have a costume Pok!mon that most are actually looking forward to. Costume Lapras would make a nice event trophy in any collection. With more events to come in May, let’s hope the long road to GO Fest will be equally exciting to play through.

218. Mega Fest GO Adventures May 01, 2022

We held off on recording live earlier in the week in order to maintain our embargo on the late week news! We start off with the Mega system revamp that we have all been waiting for! Niantic may have finally hit a home run as this update really engages you with the mechanic and makes it seem worth it to Mega Evolve! Hopefully our Mega Kangaskhan Mega Moment will go well with all the damage boosts!

Pokémon Air Adventures is next on the calendar and we have our first taste of Mega Legendary Raids! Mega Latias and Latios bring new moves and potentially a new level of Raid Difficulty! The revamp of the Mega Energy System will help all Trainers that choose to Raid going forward!

The Pokémon GO TCG Expansion has been revealed! We now have our first look at the card art which brings Pokémon into the real world, while still continuing the great tradition of artwork that we know and love. From Full Art Team Leader Trainers to Snorlax blocking a walkway, this expansion will undoubtedly cross over Trainers from GO to the TCG and vice versa.

The May Content Update is here and while we don’t have too many details, we do know that it will be packed with events. It seems Niantic has settled in on a pace that gives us a few days to breathe between events where we can also score the exciting vanilla Seasonal Spawns.

Finally, we Poke The Bear over the impact that Remote Raiding has had on the game and local communities. While we all love to Remote Raid, contemplating what has been lost at their expense is a bit eye opening. Niantic will have their hands full trying to balance this out, and we don’t think the Community will be ready to accept any of it!

We are springing into spring as we have wrapped up our Team GO Rocket event! With a slew of new costume Pokémon available, the shiny chase for them is on. In terms of events, it seems that the Community is loving things, as the three hour Mudkip window may already be far in the background.

New details have been released for Safari Zone Seville and it looks to be a ton of fun! If only it was on the East Coast of the USA then we would be there! Have no fear, as there are plenty of your favorite creators attending what is sure to be a great time in Spain.

Team Skull avatar items are available but it is really all about the pose. Raid Lobbies now have a ton of flair and attitude with the Team Skull pose. We can’t stop laughing at it and it brings us a smile every time!

Sustainability Week will be our next event and we can do some good in the world just by walking! Niantic has launched an initiative to plant trees for every Trainer that walks 5k! We also have the release of Oranguru and Shiny Cherubi to keep things spicy!

The April Fool’s Ditto event left us wanting more as half of the community didn’t even know that there was a mini event tucked into 3 hours of the day. For whatever reason, this event hit the mark with Trainers even though it didn’t include any new Pokémon or bonuses. It was just an all around good old fashioned hunt.

The All-Hands Rocket Event has Battlers rejoicing and grinders loving the interaction with TGR. While no one really understood the name of the event, it was a great opportunity to fill in our Shadow Dexes and TM away Frustration.

Community Day meetups have been announced at locations around the world and Adam and I hope to be hitting up NYC for Stufful! Make sure you reach out to us if you are in the area!

With the Lush Jungle wrapped up, the landscape for April is looking to be really fun. With a Ditto event to kick things off, this may finally be the opportunity for us all to get a Shiny! Mudkip Community Day Classic is also this weekend as the battlers will be happy to get some XL and everyone else will be able to get some Swampert with Hydro Cannon! We will keep our ears to the community to see how the three hour window pans out.

GO Fest 2022 has been announced with both Global and IRL events! Seattle, Berlin and Sapporo will be hosting in person events which I am sure will be absolutely insane as Trainers from around the world celebrate the return of in person events!

Finally we have Tapu Bulu coming to Raids so we take a look at PokéBattler to put together a Raid Party! With Bulu being double weak to Poison, it is pretty clear what we should be bringing! We have a bunch of Hundos coming to the party as you can take the Boss down with just two Trainers!

We had a ton of fun on this episode as we covered a range of topics both with the game and the community. We start with a recap of the Festival of Colors, which seemed to have universal approval, even though the community is still mourning the loss of stationary incense. The Lush Jungle event is also proving to be a lot of fun, and we look forward to catching plenty of Cottonee in parks this weekend.

Stufful Community Day was announced and it features double bonuses and a new group play bonus! This all seems great, but when you mix it with a reduction from 6 hours to 3 hours, it appears that the community has yet another point of contention with Niantic. This one may even prove to be bigger than Incense, even though it will probably impact players less.

We wrap up the show with a Raid Guide and Battle Party for Tapu Lele as we have a few more days to track down the hundo. Finally, we dig into a massive Poke The Bear centered around how some Trainers are so angry about the game, yet they can’t stop playing it or talking about it. Should they just walk away from the game? The community went all in on this one, and it was a great discussion!
