Why Steelers Giving Broderick Jones 5th Year Option Would Help NFL Draft Plan, Ongoing Rebuild Feb 17, 2026

Show notes

Christopher Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast, and is joined by Alan Saunders of SteelersNow.com.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have a decision to make on Broderick Jones' fifth-year option this offseason. Christopher Carter and Alan Saunders discuss why it's a good idea to give Jones the option -- if his neck will be healed by next season -- and why it's a key part of their rebuild plan. Omar Khan's rebuild started with Jones and continued with major investments in the trenches like Troy Fautanu, Zach Frazier, Derrick Harmon and Keeanu Benton. Jones being kept on the option wouldn't be too expensive compared to NFL left tackle salary rates, and would keep them from reinvesting draft capital in offensive tackle and allow them to invest at other key positions like wide receiver, cornerback, safety, and eventually quarterback. Also, Chris and Alan discuss why the Steelers' young nucleus of players still on rookie contracts is one of the best such groups in the NFL. Not only do they think that, but this was brought up on Locked on NFL Scouting with Kyle Crabbs and Joe Marino. Are Joey Porter Jr., Benton, Harmon, Frazier, Jones, Nick Herbig and Darnell Washington part of a bright future for the organization? Finally, Chris and Alan discuss the final Stars and Skulls Locked on Steelers grades for the offensive line.

Steelers MUST Fix Safety Mistake from Last Season | Caleb Downs, Bud Clark, Other Good Draft Options Feb 13, 2026

Show notes

Christopher Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast.

The Pittsburgh Steelers made a big mistake at safety last season by trading away Minkah Fitzpatrick. Christopher Carter sees this offseason as a chance to fix that with a good safety class led by Ohio State's Caleb Downs. Could options like Toledo's Emmanuel McNeil-Warren, Oregon's Dillon Thieneman, USC's Kamari Ramsey or TCU's Bud Clark be part of fixing what was a broken position for the Steelers last season? Also, Chris takes your calls on the Locked on Steelers call-in line, including a question about Alabama QB Ty Simpson and whether the Steelers should push to draft him or stock up with other skill positions in the draft? Finally, Chris also gives his Stars and Skulls final grades on the Steelers' safeties, DeShon Elliott, Jalen Ramsey and more.

Steelers: Aaron Rodgers or Retread QB | Joey Porter Sr. Calls Out Ben Roethlisberger, James Harrison Feb 12, 2026

Show notes

Christopher Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast, and is joined by Josh Taylor of KDKA-TV.

The Pittsburgh Steelers still don't know which path they'll take at quarterback for 2026: Aaaron Rodgers or a retread QB? Christopher Carter and Josh Taylor discuss the other options like Kyler Murray, Tua Tagovailoa and Malik Willis as potential starters for next season and whether taking one of them or Rodgers would be the right choice. Also, Chris and Josh dish their opinions out on how Joey Porter Sr. called out Ben Roethlisberger and James Harrison on Cam Heyward's Not Just Football podcast. Was Porter right to air out Roethlisberger as a bad teammate and Harrison as ungrateful for what Mike Tomlin did for both of them? Finally, it's time to reveal the Locked on Steelers Stars and Skulls final grades for the Steelers' cornerbacks. How did Joey Porter Jr. and James Pierre look when tallying up their year together?

Steelers' Omar Khan w/a Good or Bad History of Free Agent Signings? | Aaron Rodgers Return Imminent? Feb 11, 2026

Show notes

Christopher Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast, and is joined by Nick Farabaugh of PennLive.com.

The Pittsburgh Steelers' general manager Omar Khan has a good amount of salary cap space for free agent signings. But has he done well with his past free agent moves? That's a question Christopher Carter and Nick Farabaugh explore, going back over trades and moves by Khan like giving up Minkah Fitzpatrick for Jalen Ramsey, signing Darius Slay, Kenneth Gainwell, Isaac Seumalo and Patrick Queen. Has Khan been making the right moves to bring good veterans to the roster or has he been spinning his wheels with too many misses? Also, Chris and Nick disucss whether Aaron Rodgers' return to the team is imminent after recent leaks to the media. But would the Steelers be better off taking a shot at finding their own version of Sam Darnold in free agency? Chris and Nick discuss whether the Steelers should push hard for Malik Willis, Daniel Jones or another veteran quarterback they could remake with Mike McCarthy. Finally, Chris and Nick discuss the final Stars and Skulls grades for the Steelers' outside linebackers. Where did T.J. Watt, Alex Highsmith, Nick Herbig and Jack Sawyer end up this year?

Steelers' Big Draft Move a Defensive Splash Despite Mike McCarthy? | Omar Khan's OL/DL Not Done Feb 10, 2026

Show notes

Christopher Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast, and is joined by Alan Saunders of SteelersNow.com.

The Pittsburgh Steelers may have hired Mike McCarthy, but that doesn't mean they won't make a big splash in the NFL Draft with a trade-up for a high defensive prospect. Christopher Carter and Alan Saunders discuss whether prospects like Caleb Downs, Sonny Styles, Mansoor Delane or Peter Woods should be a primary concern instead of wide receiver in the first round. Would that be worth passing up on receivers like Makai Lemon, Carnell Tate or Jordyn Tyson? Also, Chris and Alan discuss why Omar Khan isn't done investing in his offensive and defensive lines, and how that could play into this NFL Draft class. Finally, the guys review the final Stars and Skulls grades for the Steelers' defensive linemen like Cam Heyward, Derrick Harmon and Keeanu Benton.

Steelers, Omar Khan Must Make Aggressive Trades this Offseason, Continue Rebuild | Final ILB Grades Feb 09, 2026

Show notes

Christopher Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast.

The Pittsburgh Steelers' offseason has just begun, and Omar Khan must be ready to be aggressive with trades as they continue their rebuild. Christopher Carter compares the moves the Steelers could make to that of the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks in that they can get better in the draft, but need to do that by turning the right players who've been solid on their team into draft capital to find superstar players again. Who are the key targets and how can they help the salary cap? Also, Chris gives you his final Stars and Skulls grades for the inside linebackers with Patrick Queen, Payton Wilson and more. Are they a group that could use a serious shakeup? And finally, Chris dives into your submitted mock drafts for Mock Draft Monday. Who are Steelers fans wanting to target early in the draft season and what aggressive moves does Chris think make the most sense?

Steelers' Mike McCarthy Found Turnover Coach in Joe Whitt Jr.? | Hires Not Mired by 'Buddy System' Feb 05, 2026

Show notes

Christopher Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast, and is joined by Josh Taylor of KDKA-TV.

The Pittsburgh Steelers hired both Brian Angelichio and Joe Whitt Jr. to Mike McCarthy's staff Wednesday. Christopher Carter and Josh Taylor react on if those are the right moves. Whitt has a history of contributing to a turnover culture, which could be the answer the Steelers need to help with their defense. But is McCarthy making a mistake hiring so many coaches who are either tied to his past coaching tenures or the city of Pittsburgh? Chris and Josh also review the Locked on Steelers Stars and Skulls grades for the tight ends. How did Pat Freiermuth and Darnell Washington stack up with their performances this season?
