Should The Nets Entertain Massive Trade Packages For Mikal Bridges? May 18, 2023

Show notes

The Nets are in an interesting spot leading into this offseason. There could be multiple teams at the top of the draft in Portland and Houston who would be willing to make big offers in order to improve their teams in the now. Mikal Bridges would offer a very enticing option and Sean Marks should definitely be willing to entertain packages if the offer was right.

That being said, this isn’t an easy thing for Brooklyn and they don’t *need* to do anything here with Bridges. But if a team bowled them over and the Nets had a chance to reset things for their future, there is a conversation to be had.

The Locked on Nets guys talk about some different scenarios and what the Nets could be looking at here.

Would the Blazers offer the #3 pick and more for Mikal Bridges? May 17, 2023

Show notes

The Portland Trailblazers got the #3 pick in the NBA draft lottery on Tuesday and that could have serious ramifications for the rest of the NBA. It doesn’t appear they are willing or wanting to draft a young player there but would instead want to see if they can immediately improve the roster around Damian Lillard.

If that were to be the case, there’s a very real scenario in which they could dangle that pick for someone like Mikal Bridges. It makes a lot of sense from the Blazers point of view and if it happened would leave Sean Marks and the Nets with a fascinating decision.

Doug Norrie takes a look at what the lottery results mean and part of what could happen this summer. Plus, he talks about Victor Wembanyama landing in San Antonio with the Spurs.

The Nets should target Jonathan Kuminga and other post-hype players this off-season May 16, 2023

Show notes

With word the Jonathan Kuminga might want out of Golden State this off-season, the Locked on Nets guys take a look at why the Nets should be targeting players like this going forward. Kuminga represents just the type of player Brooklyn desperately needs to add in the coming years in an effort to get younger and more athletic. With their championship horizon now over, they are in a spot of having to take some chances to improve the roster over the long haul.

The Locked on Nets guys look at Kuminga, but other examples of players going to new situations after being drafted high only to not have it work out. They discuss some other examples of players throughout the league Brooklyn and Sean Marks should have their eyes on.

Kevin Durant, James Harden, and Kyrie Irving: Leaving Brooklyn didn’t mean instant winning May 15, 2023

Show notes

Even though the trade deadlines have long since passed, Sunday felt like the official end of the superstar narrative for the Brooklyn Nets. James Harden and the Sixers were bounced from the playoffs is a crazy blowout at the hands of the Celtics. Harden himself was terrible in the game. And late last week, Kevin Durant and the Suns lost in Game 6 to the Nuggets, getting blown out in back-to-back games to close out the series.

Doug Norrie takes a look at how these new situations now define the narratives for each player, along with Kyrie Irving and the Mavericks not even making the playoffs.

If anything, this now feels like clean slate time for the Nets who move into a new era knowing there was probably little chance the Kevin Durant, James Harden, and Kyrie Irving team-up was ever going to work long-term.

The Nets are quietly shopping Ben Simmons. Is there actually a trade market? May 12, 2023

Show notes

Following an appearance by Howard Beck on Thursday in which he let on that the Brooklyn Nets are starting to make inquiries about Ben Simmons’ trade value, the Locked on Nets guys had to jump to talk about what this means. Could there actually be a trade market for Simmons and his current contract? What would the Nets have to attach in order to get off the money over the next couple of years.

It’s an interesting discussion and has the guys diving into some other rough contracts around the league, ones that other teams might want to get off with huge money going out well into the future.

Howard Beck breaks down the post-Kevin Durant era for the Brooklyn Nets May 11, 2023

Show notes

We all know this offseason could prove critical for the Brooklyn Nets short and long term success, but as Howard Beck joins Adam to discuss, it may be a more viable future than first perceived. Sean Marks will be under a microscope, but has proven capable of taking the remnants of a franchise and re-arranging draft picks, players and spare parts into a competitive roster.

Adam gets Howard Beck's option on if the Nets should go star hunting again this offseason, what if anything can be done with Ben Simmons, and if the price tag on Cam Johnson should ever get "too rich" for Joe Tsai. They also touch on the impact Mikal Bridges has had since coming over from Phoenix, and why a tumultuous end for Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving may have little impact on attracting future stars. It is an overwhelmingly positive perspective as the Nets work towards the NBA Draft next month.

What Sean Marks Draft history tells about his offseason agenda for the Brooklyn Nets May 10, 2023

Show notes

Sean Marks, at least through the eyes of the fanbase, is on the hot seat. The super-star era was a bust in Brooklyn and the organization now has key decisions to make which will dictate the success of the team over the next three to five years.

With two picks in the first round of the upcoming draft, GM Sean Marks once again must thread the needle of current success and long term sustainability.

Cam Johnson needs to take a "Mikal Bridges" size step in year two for the Brooklyn Nets May 09, 2023

Show notes

Cam Johnson enters the offseason as one of the top Free Agent targets in the NBA and with a potential $20m/year contract coming his way the Nets are once again at a critical point in their franchise.

The new CBA will make it harder for teams to compile and move money for superstars, making the easiest path forward to develop and grow in-house talent. While Cam came over from Phoenix via trade, he is effectively a part of the new core for Sean Marks. If Cam Johnson can tap into the playoff performances we saw against Philadelphia and become a consistent threat off the dribble, the Nets can look back on his impending contract as a blessing rather than a burden

Ben Simmons playing for Team Australia would be a major win for the Nets May 08, 2023

Show notes

The word came out over the weekend that Ben Simmons was eying a return to playing with Team Australia for the FIBA World Cup this summer. This hasn’t been something he’s done in many years, but it appears there’s a path to it happening this time around. The Locked on Nets guys discuss how this seemingly small move for Simmons could be a really big step in the right direction for a guy who’s struggled in his time recovering from injury and staying on the court.

What would a stint with Team Australia mean for Ben Simmons and the Nets and would it be a positive or negative sign for a player the team desperately needs to return to his former self on the court.

The Nets extended Jacque Vaughn early, and that might have been a mistake May 05, 2023

Show notes

With the recent spate of coaching firings and moves in the NBA, it’s becoming more and more clear that the Nets might have gone about extending Jacque Vaughn a bit too quickly during the regular season. Names like Mike Budenholzer, Nick Nurse, Frank Vogel, and the recently hired Ime Udoka all would/ could be looking for new jobs. With Brooklyn in something a pivot and rebuild for the franchise, would it have been better to have kept their options open when it comes to the coaching position?

The Locked on Nets take a look at the events that happened leading up to the Jacque Vaughn extension along with who is available in the coaching realm. Should the Nets have waited? It’s looking like that could have been the move.
