After Nic Claxton can the Nets come up big enough at center? Aug 08, 2023

Show notes

With the Nets roster mostly filled out at this point, a question still remains about how the team will fill out its rotations of bigs at the center position. They got an amazing performance from Claxton last season and his spot is entrenched, but what about the position behind him? Has Sean Marks upgraded enough to alleviate some issues from last season? It’s not clear.

The Locked on Nets guys discuss the play of Day’ron Sharpe from last season as well as the additions of Trendon Watford and Darius Bazely. Plus they drafted Noah Clowney and do have other wings with size. Will this be enough for the Nets this year or will they continue to get dominated on the glass?

Lonnie Walker and Cam Thomas Need To Replace Joe Harris and Seth Curry’s Shooting Aug 03, 2023

Show notes

The Nets made some major changes this off-season, a couple of which included trading Joe Harris and not resigning Seth Curry. For all of their weaknesses, that does leave a hole in the lineup for pure shooting, ones the Nets will try to fill with the likes of Lonnie Walker and Cam Thomas.

The Locked on Nets guys look at how Brooklyn will try to get spacing this season and whether the likes of Walker and Thomas are enough to replace the elite shooting they already had in place. It’s an interesting trade-off, one that likely works in the Nets’ favor in the long run. But there’s no question that it could be something that crops up this year, whether Brooklyn does have enough from behind the arc.

Mikal Bridges, Cameron Johnson and Ben Simmons give the Nets a great chance for creative 5-man lineups Aug 01, 2023

Show notes

With the Brooklyn Nets roster mostly filled out at this point, it’s time to start thinking about how lineups could shake out. Mikal Bridges, Cameron Johnson, and even Ben Simmons could give the team significant flexibility when it comes to 5-man rotations and combinations.

The Locked on Nets guys discuss a number of different lineup scenarios for the team and how guys like Spencer Dinwiddie, Nic Claxton, Dennis Smith Jr. Dorian Finney-Smith, Lonnie Walker and more factor in.

For a team in relative transition, Jacque Vaughn and company will have a lot of possibilities to sort out.

Spencer Dinwiddie: Key Starter or trade asset for the Nets? Jul 31, 2023

Show notes

Spencer Dinwiddie much like Mikal Bridges and Cameron Johnson, found himself in new waters following the trade deadline this past season.

While his surroundings in Brooklyn were all too familiar, the role that Spencer Dinwiddie was asked to fill had a much different look to it than years prior.

The guys discuss how Dinwiddie in fact re-invented himself rather successfully, being among the top assist leaders in the NBA over the last 27 games. The problem lies in what will be asked of the 30-year-old this year.

If Ben Simmons returns to form in a Point-Forward role, Spencer Dinwiddie will be asked to help supply consistent perimeter shooting and off-ball value to the offense. Doug and Adam highlight where the statistics and eye test meet to form a concerning outlook.

If the Nets are to find value at the deadline in moving Dinwiddie, it will also require the likes of Cam Thomas or Dennis Smith Jr to show they are ready for a much longer workload, affording Brooklyn to continue the theme of getting younger through their rebuild process.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!

A Healthy Ben Simmons Makes the Brooklyn Nets a Top 15 NBA Team Jul 28, 2023

Show notes

It is that time of year when quiet off-seasons are filled with optimism for the season ahead. No one needs that optimism more than Ben Simmons.

Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving are gone, as are the championship expectations in Brooklyn. Mikal Bridges is the face of the franchise, and offering support and confidence and belief that Ben Simmons will be a high-impact player once again.

Ben Simmons has the unique combination of skills that would help balance the Nets rotation and roles for players like Spencer Dinwiddie and Cam Thomas. Make no mistake Ben Simmons has a contract that demands high expectations, and for the first time in Brooklyn he looks poised to meet them, and unlock the potential of this roster.

Did Sean Marks fumble the opportunity to trade Royce O'Neal or Dorian Finney-Smith this offseason? Jul 27, 2023

Show notes

Sean Marks made a number of smart decisions this offseason. From moving the contracts of Joe Harris and Patty Mills, to signing upside Free Agents like Dennis Smith Jr. and Darius Bazley. Two veterans however remain on the roster in Royce O'Neal and Dorian Finney-Smith.

Doug Adam discuss if the Nets should have moved one or both of the 30-year old veterans at last years trade deadline, at this years NBA Draft, or at any point this offseason.

The guys look at a few different trade scenarios specifically for Royce O'Neal who is on an expiring $9.5m contract, and certainly fits a number of team needs for contending rosters. Dorian Finney-Smith offers the Nets an extended timeline with his team friendly contract, and potentially a bench role to start the year that could elevate his market value.

Nic Claxton And Ben Simmons Can Lead A Top-Tier Nets Defense Jul 25, 2023

Show notes

After a day talking about the Nets offense, it’s time to look at the potential for their defense going into this season. Starting with Nic Claxton who received Defensive Player of the Year votes and adding Ben Simmons who’s been in that tier before, this team could really get after it on that end of the court.

Add in Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, and even Dennis Smith Jr. off the bench and we could be looking at the makings of a top-10 (or higher) defense when it’s all said and done. The Locked on Nets guys break down what the team could do and how they will look to have an identity on that side of the ball.

Can Mikal Bridges And Cameron Johnson Carry The Nets Offense For A Full Season? Jul 24, 2023

Show notes

The Nets come into the season with Mikal Bridges and Cam Johnson leading the offense, having to take on significant playmaker duties with this team. With Spencer Dinwiddie, Nic Claxton, and the return of a possibly-healthy Ben Simmons, where does this team stand in terms of offensive projection?

It’s the question the Locked on Nets guys have as they dissect the team’s offense and what to expect from this group. It could be an uphill struggle, especially in the half-court, and fans might want to prepare for some nights when the team has issues getting the ball in the hoop. That plus the losses of three of their best three-point shooters in Joe Harris, Seth Curry, and Yuta Watanabe and the Nets could be looking at an interesting season.
