WR Mike Williams is Heating Up While Chargers rookie Quentin Johnston Deals with Drop Issues Aug 23, 2023

Show notes

Los Angeles Chargers receiver Mike Williams will be a focal point of the offense in 2023 and his big plays at practice are reasons to be excited. Rookie Quentin Johnston on the other hand, continues to have drops at camp that have put a damper on some of his exciting moments. Dan and David discuss the latest from training camp including Sebastian Joseph-Day showing some pass rush chops this year. If he can provide any pass rush, this front could be deadly for opposing QBs. In other good defensive line news, Austin Johnson has returned to practice after tearing his ACL in 2022. Much has been talked about preseason standouts, but there are several Chargers players like Kenneth Murray who have sat out when they could probably use some valuable reps.

Los Angeles Chargers Tight End Stone Smartt Standing Out and Rookie CJ Okoye Could Stick Around Aug 22, 2023

Show notes

The tight end position is a huge question mark behind Chargers starter Gerald Everett, but Stone Smartt showed some promise in preseason week two. Donald Parham Jr. is basically a roster lock for Los Angeles but has been somewhat underwhelming during the preseason. Dan and David break down the tight end room at this point and also discuss rookie CJ Okoye continuing to make plays. Having never played organized football, Okoye has impressed at every turn and will likely stick around in 2023. The guys also get into some other surprise players that have taken advantage of their opportunities so far.

Defense Dominates Day One Of Los Angeles Chargers Joint Practice with the New Orleans Saints Aug 18, 2023

Show notes

The Los Angeles Chargers faced off with the Saints for their first joint practice of the offseason, and Brandon Staley's defense came to play. Led by Morgan Fox and Kenneth Murray, the defense was all over Derek Carr making a ton of plays in the backfield. Hosts Dan and David break down the joint practice including the up and down day for the Chargers offense. Justin Herbert had a solid day, but Keenan Allen was dominant against the New Orleans' secondary showing he is still WR1. The one place that is a little concerning for Kellen Moore's unit is in the Red Zone where the Saints held the Chargers out of the end zone. The guys also get into what they are looking for in preseason game two like if rookie Elijah Dotson can repeat his magnificent week one performance.

The guys also get into what the best remaining camp battles are and which position groups they are most concerned with. They are set at quarterback, but not all Chargers fans are sold that Justin Herbert is the guy yet even after all the accolades.

Los Angeles Chargers Alohi Gilman Gets Injured Shining Light on Depth Concerns at Safety Aug 16, 2023

Show notes

Alohi Gilman was the incumbent starter heading into Los Angeles Chargers training camp and was playing great before getting injured this week at practice. With Gilman out, the Chargers safety depth is a concern and could regret not signing Brandon Staley's former player John Johnson. Dan and David discuss their confidence level with the Chargers depth and talk about the good news surrounding J.C. Jackson's injury. With Jackson back in the mix, the Chargers depth at cornerback is looking pretty deep. One player that has been on the rise recently is EDGE rusher Chris Rumph who starred in the lone preseason game and kept it going at Chargers practice Tuesday. If Los Angeles can fix a pass rush that was broken most of 2022, the defense could finally make the leap we have been expecting under Staley.

Camp Battle Over: Kenneth Murray, Asante Samuel Jr. Among Los Angeles Chargers to Win Starting Jobs Aug 15, 2023

Show notes

The Los Angeles Chargers have only played one preseason game but Dan and David are ready to declare some winners in several training camp battles. After not playing in the game, it is clear that Kenneth Murray and Asante Samuel Jr. have entrenched themselves as starters on the defense. After the Chargers decided to release running back Larry Rountree, it looks like Elijah Dotson is the clear RB4, but is that enough to ensure a roster spot? One player that seems to have won his job already is kicker Cameron Dicker who has taken advantage of veteran Dustin Hopkins missing time with an injury. Though some camp battles have been decided, the battle between Isaiah Spiller and Joshua Kelley is just getting started.
