Derwin James Calls Out Los Angeles Chargers Defense Which Must Improve to Meet Lofty Expectations Sep 06, 2023

Show notes

The Chargers defense had been poor under Brandon Staley, and all-pro safety Derwin James thinks it up to the Los Angeles players to change the narrative. For substantial improvement, the run defense has to be better and the team is betting on Eric Kendricks to make a big difference. The biggest wild card defensively is J.C. Jackson and hosts Dan and David discuss what version of the former all-pro they expect to see in 2023. The secondary overall must turn in a better effort this season to curb the explosive plays that doomed them before. On offense, the Chargers rushing attack has been abysmal in recent years, but Kellen Moore brings reason to hop things will change.

Chargers QB Justin Herbert Will Win MVP in 2023 With Kellen Moore and an Outstanding Offensive Cast Sep 05, 2023

Show notes

Justin Herbert has been excellent over his first three seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers and the pieces have fallen into place for him to win his first NFL MVP Award. With new offensive coordinator Kellen Moore at the helm and the best offensive supporting cast of his career, Herbert should be special in 2023. Dan and David discuss what kind of production Herbert will need to give himself a chance, but the MVP is a team award as well. If the Chargers can't get past Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs in the West, there is almost no chance for Herbert to claim the prize. The guys also get into why they think tight end Gerald Everett and cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. could have breakout years.

The Los Angeles Chargers Will Win 12 Games In 2023 Fueled by High-Powered Offense Sep 04, 2023

Show notes

The Los Angeles Chargers have failed to live up to the hype long enough and they will get over the hump in 2023 with 12 wins and another trip to the NFL playoffs. Justin Herbert and high-powered offense will be the main reason but getting better injury luck will be crucial for the team to hit these lofty goals. Dan and David discuss they they feel the Chargers offense is being overlooked, and what kind of production they expect from Herbert, Keenan Allen, Austin Ekeler and the rest of the big names. Will Quentin Johnston breakthrough in year one? Defensively the Chargers should get better if Joey Bosa can stay on the field and out up the numbers the guys know he's capable of. Derwin James should also be in store for a stat-stuffing year, but Asante Samuel Jr. is the hosts pick to lead the team in interceptions.

Veteran TE Nick Vannett Brings Chargers Needed Blocking Ability | Eric Kendricks Set For Big Impact Sep 01, 2023

Show notes

The tight end position is questionable for the Los Angeles Chargers behind Gerald Everett, especially in the blocking department but adding Nick Vannett is a step in the right direction. Dan and David discuss the Chargers new practice squad addition and why they think Eric Kendricks is a huge boost for the defense. The guys also get into how optimistic they are with the 2023 season knocking on the door, and what it will take to save head coach Brandon Staley's job. One player who will be paramount in the success on the offensive side is Keenan Allen, who could be in store for one of his best seasons yet. Everett has flown under the radar a bit but he could also be the X Factor on this Chargers offense.

The Los Angeles Chargers Claim LB Tanner Muse on Waivers, Add Key Veterans to the Practice Squad Aug 31, 2023

Show notes

Upgrading the roster is paramount and the Los Angeles Chargers used the waiver wire to pick linebacker Tanner Muse and waived FB Zander Horvath. Muse is the sixth linebacker on the roster, but brings special teams value and could be insurance for rookie Daiyan Henley who is currently injured. Dan and David breakdown the Charger initial practice squad, including several veterans being added for extra depth. There was another familiar vet named to the practice squad as defensive lineman Christian Covington was brought back to the team. Along with the veterans, the Chargers found a way to bring back preseason standouts Jerrod Clark and Zack Bailey.

Roster Reaction: Chargers Surprisingly Keep Elijah Dotson and AJ Finley and Make One Big Mistake Aug 30, 2023

Show notes

The Los Angeles Chargers have had several legendary undrafted free agents in the past, and this year Elijah Dotson had his Austin Ekeler moment making the 53-man roster. Dan and David get into the most surprising roster moves of the cutdown day, including keeping only five wide receivers. The Chargers did keep place Jalen Guyton and Otito Ogbonnia on the PUP reserve list meaning they could make the roster as when healthy. AJ Finley was the biggest surprise of the guys making the team coming from totally off the radar, but with waivers incoming it could be short-lived. The guys also talk about why they think keeping offensive lineman Brenden Jaimes over Zack Bailey was the biggest mistake made while trimming the roster.

Chargers 53-Man Roster Prediction: Los Angeles Keeps 2 QBs, Release a Couple of Fan Favorites Aug 28, 2023

Show notes

Big decisions lie ahead for the Los Angeles Chargers and it will be crucial that they push the right buttons to supplement their talented roster. Historically, Tom Telesco has kept three quarterbacks on the active roster, but Dan and David think they will buck some trends this year while trimming the team. Running back Elijah Dotson was a preseason darling, but did he show he can bring enough value to merit a roster spot? Another big decision that will have to be made is if Tre McKitty is still a roster lock after a disappointing offseason.

Los Angeles Chargers Preseason Finale: Joshua Kelley Locks Up RB2, Daiyan Henley and JT Woods Flash Aug 26, 2023

Show notes

The Los Angeles Chargers ended the preseason beating the 49ers led by and impressive 75-yard touchdown for running Joshua Kelley. Isaiah Spiller sputtered to the finish line in the finale, and Kelley may have locked up the RB2 role behind Austin Ekeler. Second-year safety JT Woods has had the spotlight on him and showed more improvement turning in a good performance after missing a tackle early on. Chargers rookie Daiyan Henley was all over the field in coverage bringing down his first interception, and coming close on another occasion.

Last Chance: Several Los Angeles Chargers Players on the Bubble Heading Into Preseason Finale Aug 24, 2023

Show notes

The upcoming preseason game is crucial for Chargers players at the end of the roster, and this last performance could decide their fate. Dan and David break down which players have the most on the line heading into the 49ers game and who they think could make the team. The defensive line group is deep this year and it likely will come down to Christopher Hinton, David Moa or rookie standout Jerrod Clark that claims the last spot. Running back Elijah Dotson came into the preseason on fire but has cooled off recently but will have one last chance to make a statement heading into cuts. Roster construction will play a major role in some battles, but for kickers it seems clear that Cameron Dicker should win the job over Dustin Hopkins even if Brandon Staley claims it is still up in the air.
