The Browns Can Win In Atlanta With Injuries On Defense Sep 26, 2022
    Show notes

Garrett Bush of the Ultimate Cleveland Sports Show and Jeff Lloyd of the Locked On Browns Podcast Tell you Everything You Need To Know About The Browns vs Falcons Game. They believe The Browns Can Win In Atlanta With Injuries On Defense.

The Browns are starting to get comfortable with Jacoby Brissett at quarterback, and the offense is starting to step things up. The Falcons are coming off their first win of the season in Week 3 over the Seahawks, so they’ll be fired up to try to make it two in a row.

DraftKings Sportsbook posted opening odds for this matchup earlier this week. Here’s a look at what the odds opened at and where they re-opened for Browns vs. Falcons in their Week 4 matchup.

Cleveland’s defense should be dominant again and the run game will continue to perform well against Atlanta’s defense. The Falcons are showing a lot of potential, but they’ll struggle to contain Cleveland’s offense and that ultimately will do them in.

Thursday Night Football | Cleveland Browns beat the Steelers Sep 23, 2022
    Show notes

Garrett Bush of the Ultimate Cleveland Sports Show and Jeff Lloyd of the Locked On Browns Podcast joined Adam the Bull and Mikey McNuggets Thursday Night Football | Browns vs. Steelers Recap. Four days after their gut-wrenching loss, the Browns rebounded by defeating their longtime rivals at home on "Thursday Night Football." Aided by Nick Chubb and a strong second half by their defense, the Browns posted an 29-17 victory to move to 2-1 on the season. Pittsburgh, fresh off its own disappointing Week 2 loss, fell to 1-2.

Trailing 14-13 at intermission, the Browns took control of the game by scoring of their first two drives of the second half. The offense was fueled by Chubb, who finished the night with 113 yards on 23 carries. Cleveland also received a big night from Amari Cooper, whose 32-yard catch on a third-and-1 play set up Chubb's 1-yard touchdown that extended the Browns' lead to 23-14 with 9:29 left. The Browns put an exclamation point on the win with Denzel Ward's defensive score on the game's final play. After slow starts on both sides of the ball, the Browns -- spearheaded by a 37-yard run by Chubb -- struck first on Jacoby Bissett's 11-yard touchdown pass to Cooper, who finished the night with 101 yards on seven catches. The Steelers responded with Najee Harris' 5-yard touchdown run to start the second quarter. A balletic, one-handed catch by rookie George Pickens set up Harris' touchdown.

Cleveland countered with David Njoku's touchdown catch from Brissett with 8:58 left until halftime. The Steelers took their first lead moments later when Mitch Trubisky scored on a 1-yard touchdown run. Pittsburgh's offense started the second half with another promising drive that ultimately fizzled shortly after crossing midfield. Pittsburgh, after doing little for most of the second half, was able to mount a late scoring drive that made it a six-point game with 1:46 left. A penalty on their ensuing onside kick, however, allowed the Browns to milk the game clock down to nine seconds. Heavy winds affected both kickers during the first half. Boswell missed a 53-yard attempt on Pittsburgh's second drive. Browns rookie kicker Cade York missed a PAT but made up for it by making his 34-yard field goal attempt late in the third quarter to give Cleveland the lead for good.

Everything You Need To Know About The Browns vs Steelers Game On Thursday Night Sep 22, 2022
    Show notes

Garrett Bush of the Ultimate Cleveland Sports Show and Jeff Lloyd of the Locked On Browns Podcast Tell you Everything You Need To Know About The Browns vs Steelers Game On Thursday Night.

The events that took place within the final two-minute warning led to the worst collapse in recent NFL history... since the last historic collapse the Browns suffered against the Chicago Bears in Week 9 of the 2001 season. "Fire Joe Woods" was trending on Twitter as Browns fans tried to come to grips with what they had witnessed after many left the stadium early up 13 with less than two minutes to play. Where does the defense go from here? How do they regroup on a short week against a division rival? Here are three keys to success for the Browns defense against the Pittsburgh Steelers:

    1. Communication, Communication, Communication

Maybe the most obvious of the keys but undoubtedly the most important. The Browns will going into Thursday's game without one of the most important players on their defense after Jadeveon Clowney left Sunday's game with an ankle injury (he has been ruled out for Thursday). News broke Tuesday that Myles Garrett was dealing with a neck injury that forced him out of Tuesday's practice, although the club has since confirmed he is expected to be available Thursday night.

Losing even one pass rusher could spell disaster if the secondary doesn't get on the same page, even against a struggling Mitch Trubisky leading the Steelers' offense. Thirty-seven-year-old Joe Flacco hadn't won a game in the NFL since 2019 and received boo birds of his own from the hometown Jets crowd in Week 1. They were throwing roses at his feet after what the Browns' defense allowed him to do on Sunday.

There is too much talent in the secondary for them to perform this way. Maybe our expectations were too high when they were anointed the next top five defense in the NFL, but it wasn't because of hope alone. There was good reason to believe in a defense lead by two Pro Bowlers and a host of young talent on the rise around them.

    2. Block out external noise

What's done is done. The good news in all of the negative press and reaction to the blown coverages and miscommunication is that the problems are absolutely able to be fixed. It's a quick turnaround this week, which may prove to be exactly what they need. No time to rest on their laurels; they will have had three days to get things right. The defense even held a players-only meeting at some point in the days following the Jets loss to get on the same page.

This unit came together during offseason programs and minicamps. They came together for training camp, all of that valuable time used to either learn the system or become more comfortable with their role in it. Can they fix issues they seemingly weren't able to come together on in months of preseason preparation? We can only hope this meeting is a meaningful turning point for them as a group.

    3. (Finally a positive) Continue to stifle the opponent's rushing attack

Lost in the controversy is the fact that the Browns defense has held the Panthers and Jets' running games in check through the first two weeks of the season. They held one of the most talented backs in the league, Christian McCaffrey, to just 33 yards on the ground, 54 total for the entire Panthers offense. Similarly, they held the Jets to under 100 yards rushing, with the tandem of Breece Hall and Michael Carter combining for 73 yards.

Browns Fans, Can The Defense Be Fixed In Time For Thursday Night Football? Sep 20, 2022
    Show notes

The Browns were on their way to 2-0. That is, until they weren't. The Browns held a 13-point lead with 1:55 left in Sunday's home opener against the New York Jets. Just over 90 seconds later, Joe Flacco hit Garrett Wilson for a 15-yard touchdown pass and Greg Zuerlein added the go-ahead point-after kick for a 31-30 Jets win. The Jets scored 14 points in the final 1:22 of the game. Ashtyn Davis intercepted a Jacoby Brissett pass with six seconds left to seal the game. Browns fans thought they could exhale when Nick Chubb's 12-yard run with 1:55 remaining gave them a 30-17 lead. Cade York, last week's hero, missed the point-after kick, which proved fatal. That run, though, only gave the Browns a momentary chance to breathe. The Jets answered with a 66-yard touchdown pass to a wide open Corey Davis with 1:22 remaining when Denzel Ward and Grant Delpit seemed to botch the coverage. The Jets then recovered the onside kick at their own 47 and marched down the field for the game-winner on a third-and-10 play.

If Browns fans had questions about Brissett's passing after the season opener, the quarterback made it a point to quiet some of those with the way he started his first home game of the regular season. Brissett completed his first eight passes, and 10 of 11 first-half passes The only incompletion of the half almost was a touchdown. Brissett threw a 6-yard fade to Donovan Peoples-Jones that the tightly-covered receiver grabbed as he was falling out of bounds on the right sideline. The officials initially ruled it a touchdowns. However, after a replay review, it was ruled Peoples-Jones wasn't able to control the ball to the ground while getting his feet inbounds. Brissett made sure it counted on the next play, hitting Amari Cooper for a 6-yard touchdown and a 14-7 lead with 8:17 left in the first half. Brissett, though, sustained what appeared to be a knee injury on a sack with just under five minutes remaining. He did come back on the next series. Brissett completed 22 of 29 passes for 229 yards and a touchdown and the game-sealing interception.

There was a lot of conversation about how involved in the offensive game plan Cooper was in the opener. It took until the second drive of his first home game for him to get his first target, but he got it rolling then. Brissett found Cooper four times on that drive for 48 yards, including the 6-yard touchdown pass. Cooper finished with nine catches for 101 yards in the game. The first three quarters were tough sledding for Chubb. The Browns star running back had just 37 rushing yards on 11 carries through 45 minutes. Chubb changed that on the Browns' first fourth-quarter possession. He ran it four times for 41 yards, plus a 15-yard screen pass, as he helped give the Browns a 24-17 lead with 9:21 remaining. Chubb capped the drive with a 7-yard run in which he ran to the right, made a slight cut to the left and then powered his way over the goal line for the score. Chubb finished with 87 yards on 17 carries and two touchdowns.

The Cleveland Browns coverage issues don't need finger pointing, everyone is guilty with PFF's John Kosko Sep 19, 2022
    Show notes

Host Jeff Lloyd is joined by PFF's John Kosko for his weekly spot to break down the Cleveland Browns coverage issues, the improved passing game from Jacoby Brissett and Amari Cooper and a peak ahead to the Pittsburgh Steelers. There should be no finger pointing within the Browns secondary there's been bad play all around. Jacoby Brissett looked more confident behind center and he and Amari Cooper were in sync. Pittsburgh comes to town Thursday night and there are several area's the Browns can exploit.

    Show notes

Garrett Bush of the Ultimate Cleveland Sports Show and Jeff Lloyd of the Locked On Browns Podcast Breaks down the Cleveland Browns vs. New York Jets Recap. The Browns Blow 13 Point Lead In Final 1:55! The Browns had one of their worst collapses ever in their home opener Sunday at FirstEnergy Stadium, losing 31-30 to the Jets to fall to 1-1. They led 30-17 with 1:55 left in the game before allowing Flacco to throw two TD passes in the final 1:22: a 66-yarder to Corey Davis, and a 15-yarder to Garrett Wilson after they recovered the onside kick. The Jets recovered the onside kick at their 47, and Flacco marched the Jets 53 yards in nine plays and fired a 15-yard TD pass to former Ohio State Buckeye Garrett Wilson. Brissett took over with 22 seconds left and was picked off on his second play by Ashtyn Davis to send the crowd home booing and mad. “Everything that happens on that field is my responsibility,” Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said after the loss. “... I’m not going to hide from it, and I’m not going to point fingers. I am going to tell you that we’re going to get it fixed. “We’ve got to get it fixed.” The Browns play the Steelers on Thursday night football. Kickoff at FirstEnergy Stadium is set for 8:15 p.m.

The Cleveland Browns Keys To Victory Against The New York Jets Sep 16, 2022
    Show notes

Garrett Bush of the Ultimate Cleveland Sports Show and Jeff Lloyd of the Locked on Browns Podcast Give The Browns Keys To victory Against The Jets. The Cleveland Browns enter Week 2 with a chance at going to 2-0 for the first time in years. It’s been a while since we’ve been able to go into Week 2 talking about the Cleveland Browns having an opportunity to go 2-0 on a season. Bill Belichick was the coach back then and that team got to 3-0 before falling back to Earth and finishing 7-9.

This year’s team will now get a chance at reaching this milestone when they play a young and inexperienced New York Jets team. The Jets got beat by the Baltimore Ravens in a Week 1 game that was never really that close. The Browns are opening as a 6-point favorite and Many fans are already penciling in a win but let us not forget that two seasons ago Cleveland was embarrassed by New York in a 23-16 loss. It was a game where the Browns were missing their entire wide receiver room because of Covid, and it ended up being one that they’d probably like to forget. The Jets have many new players now including wide receiver and former Ohio State Buckeye Garrett Wilson and cornerback Sauce Gardner out of Cincinnati. They have rising stars and if the Browns have a bit of a letdown after their recent thriller against the Carolina Panthers, the outcome could be bad. The good news is it’s Cleveland’s home opener and that should make some difference. There are many storylines coming into this game that Browns fans will be discussing up to kickoff. Let’s take a look at a few of those.

Browns 3 big storylines for Week 2

No. 3: Browns defense should thrive against the Jets

No. 2: Running attack will continue its domination

No. 2: Running attack will continue its domination

Crossover Thursday Cleveland Browns New York Jets Preview Sep 15, 2022
    Show notes

Garrett Bush of The Ultimate Cleveland Sports Show and Jeff Lloyd of The Locked on Browns Podcast Preview the NFL Week 2 Matchup between the Cleveland Browns vs. New York Jets. Garrett and Jeff were joined by locked on Jets Podcast Host John Butchko. Jets vs Browns Week 2 Game Info: The New York Jets will be looking to avoid a dreaded 0-2 start when they travel to take on the Cleveland Browns in Week 2 NFL action.

The injury to starting quarterback Zach Wilson has left the Jets with veteran Joe Flacco as their starting quarterback. His first-quarter interception on Sunday gave Baltimore an early chance to take the lead. Once that happened, he struggled to lead New York on scoring drives the rest of the way. Jacoby Brissett is by no means an elite QB either, but at least Cleveland has a stellar defense and run game backing him up. Grant Delpit nabbed an interception in Week 1 and Myles Garrett posted two sacks. If the Browns can get to Flacco and make him uncomfortable in the pocket, this one could be over before halftime.

The Cleveland Browns defense is a couple of short steps away from dominance Sep 14, 2022
    Show notes

Garrett Bush of the Ultimate Cleveland Sports Show and Jeff Lloyd of the Locked on Browns Podcast were joined by Former Ohio State Buckeye and NFL Pro Tyvis Powell. Tyvis breaks down the issues with communication in the Browns secondary and why they gave up 2 big plays to Baker Mayfield and the Carolina Panthers. Tyvis also gives his scouting report on the New York Jets and previews NFL Week 2 matchup between the Cleveland Browns vs New York Jets.

Explaining Coverage Busts That Hurt The Browns Defense: The Cleveland Browns' defense deserved a far better than the outcome it received on Sunday. They played well on roughly 46 of the 50 snaps the Carolina Panthers were on the field. However, all it takes in the NFL is a few slip-ups within a game to shift the tide of the outcome. Without a bonkers Cade York moment in the final seconds, the Browns might have experienced one of the tougher losses seen in a while for a team that dominates a majority of the game. With a final score of 26-24, this win for the Browns and their defense can be broken into a couple of key plays that changed an otherwise dominant day. To be fair, that has been the problem with this version of the Browns' defense under Joe Woods throughout his career in Cleveland. They have a scheme that fits, and gets quality play in their heavy-zone approach, but they have been mired by too many blown coverages and too many miscommunications in the same time frame.
