The Cleveland Browns are ready to challenge the Bengals for the AFC north. Jun 16, 2023

Show notes

The Cleveland Browns have bolstered their roster ahead of the 2023 NFL season, while the Cincinnati Bengals have not. The Bengals are widely considered to win a third consecutive AFC north title, that doesn't seem that clear cut.

The Browns defense has a new established boss in Jim Schwartz, his track record can not be ignored. They upgraded at edge rusher, defensive tackle, and safety. The only offensive upgrade for the Bengals is Oralando Brown Jr which will weaken their right tackle spot as Jonah Williams has always struggled against Cleveland.

On offense the Browns will have a now comfortable Deshaun Watson with a ton of weapons including newcomer Elijah Moore. The Cincinnati defense on paper is worse than it was in 2022 as they try to move on from Jessie Bates.

The week one and seventeen match-ups between these two teams should ultimately decide the AFC north.

Cleveland Browns Players Who Need To Step Up In 23! Jun 14, 2023

Show notes

For the Cleveland Browns to achieve the lofty goals in 2023 that many feel they can, they are going to need several players to step up. This episode highlights the five biggest in host Jeff Lloyd's opinion.

Jedrick Wills, it's been an up and down first three years for Jed. The Browns picked up his fifth year option it's time for him to reward them with a complete season at left tackle.

Jerome Ford, there is still a good chance that Andrew Berry signs a veteran running back but until that happens Ford is in line for about 150 touches this upcoming season. Many feel the talent is there but it's blind faith based on his 8 carries last season.

Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, there have been plenty of flashes but he's missed a lot of time but this year as Jim Schwartz's dime backer should be the season we all see the players that Cleveland traded up for during the 2020 draft.

Alex Wright, the team has been very active in adding to the edge rusher room. It appears for Wright his best opportunities to get meaningful reps will be as a pass rusher in nickel and dime personnel.

Deshaun Watson, this team will go as far as he can take them. He had his get acclimated time but this year he is expected to return to top NFL QB form.

Trying to pinpoint the Cleveland Browns 53 man roster Jun 13, 2023

Show notes

As the Cleveland Browns inch closer towards training camp we start to peak ahead to what may be the final 53 man roster. On offense it appears they will carry three quarterbacks. The wide receiver room appears set at six unless one on the younger guys can trump Marquise Goodwin. The running back room is probably the most difficult room to determine as it feels there is most likely a candidate not yet known.

Defensively it seems as if the roster will be filled by defensive lineman and secondary players, ideally ten roster spots to both groups. However it's difficult to fell the shape of the defensive tackle room until training camp and preseason show one or two separating from the pack.

The Browns have introduced a new dog logo which sparks the debate on the logo itself and the teams ability to market a team without a true logo.

Why not Dalvin Cook? Jun 11, 2023

Show notes

Cleveland Browns fans and media have been nonstop in trying to link DeAndre Hopkins to the team. Another veteran has been recently released who should be the bigger need in Minnesota Vikings running back Dalvin Cook. Cook has a history with Brown head coach Kevin Stefanski, has been a proven player in the passing game, and has two teammates from last season already on board for the '23 Browns. A long shot but the Andrew Berry should be in on this veteran even though the free agent running back market is still deep.

Jordan Elliott and Harrison Bryant have had the contracts reworked essentially securing their roster spots for the upcoming season. Bryant in small doses has been able to be a factor in the receiving game, which should continue this year. The Elliott deal continues to show that the Browns are one defensive tackle away.

The Browns defensive tackle room has a whole bunch of scratch offs and yes Jim Schwartz should improve players it's hard to bank on this room the way it is currently constructed.

Nick Chubb, Browns offensive expectations, and Draft Thoughts with PFF's Trevor Sikkema Jun 08, 2023

Show notes

PFF's Trevor Sikkema joins the show to talk his preseason positional rankings. Trevor's rankings have Nick Chubb as the top running back in the NFL. Nick has always graded well in the system at PFF but his five yards per carry every year of his career certainly speaks for itself. We should see a different form of Nick Chubb in 2023 as he becomes part of a team that will throw the ball more often. He has that ability and it should be on display this fall.

Sikkema feels Deshaun Watson will rebound and be a solid quarterback, highlighting the weapons he has at his disposal. However the DeAndre Hopkins signing could be a tough one to turn down for a team that so badly wants to win.

When asked about the Browns draft class Trevor Sikkema loved the Browns haul sighting great value picks in Cameron Mitchell and Luke Wypler both are players with starting futures.

Elijah Moore will lead the Cleveland Browns in receptions Jun 08, 2023

Show notes

The Cleveland Browns made a bold move prior to the NFL Draft in trading for wide receiver Elijah Moore. Moore was unhappy with the Jets due to bad quarterback play and the fact they couldn't make Moore and Garrett Wilson work as a duo. Moore looks happy and focused thus far while the Browns are using him in every way possible, which our host feels will allow Elijah to lead the Brown sin receptions in 2023.

The Offense has looked fabulous thus far in mandatory OTA's, with one writer saying Deshaun Watson had the best practice he'd ever seen. The Defense is getting in it's looks while all the newness works itself out.

The defense will need time to grow, with a new defensive boss in Jim Schwartz and several new faces creating harmony will be the ultimate factor. Schwartz's system thus far appears to be easier with less communication than the last system. The theory appears to be let the athletes be athletes.

Safety Concerns For Cleveland Browns Players Jun 07, 2023

Show notes

The Cleveland Browns are dealing with an unfortunate situation this week, while holding mandatory mini-camps there have been several players robbed of their vehicles and more. Credit to the players for making sure these situations didn't get any worse. Hopefully this issue is resolved quickly.

Deshaun Watson is lighting up practices as he grows more comfortable with this system and finding a way to feed his now pallet of pass catchers. He's working the route tree ans and showing solid zip and accuracy.

Myles Garrett and his two new running mates should be able to bring lots of pass rush the question is how many sacks is this group capable of? Then, some detail on how creative JIm Schwartz could be with his nickel and dime sets.

Is signing Hopkins for name, or game? Jun 05, 2023

Show notes

Lots of fans and media still want to speculate on the possibility of the Cleveland Browns signing DeAndre Hopkins, but there are issues to it. Hopkins set to turn 31 shortly would still command a pretty high salary. The Browns can match that but other things factor in. Hopkins would not get his usual target rate, the Browns wide receiver room is just too deep. The room is currently built for the present, and the future. Bringing in Nuk would dwarf to growth path for the future of the room. Also it would most likely cost one of the young wide outs their roster spot. The signing could work but there is a lot of variables some won't consider.

The Browns released veteran offensive tackle Joe Haeg, who was injured for almost all of 2022. There are younger, cheaper players who can fill his spot.

The Buffalo Bills just signed more defensive line help showing that teams that feel they are true contenders never rest on their laurels when it comes to defensive line play. Simply put the Browns need more help there.

Deshaun Watson will rebound in '23! Jun 02, 2023

Show notes

Looking at stat projections, Deshaun Watson will exceed expectations. Some feel Watson won't find his former form but General Manager Andrew Berry has set him up for big success. The wide receiver room is very deep. The offensive line is stout. Nick Chubb is still Nick Chubb.

On the defensive side, JOK is predicted to have a breakout year as the team shifts to playing more defensive lineman and secondary players and less linebackers. This content also highlights on the most glaring need still left, a veteran defensive tackle.

The Browns here are predicted to finish just shy of ten wins. For them to exceed this number it will come down to AFC north games.

Thoughts from Cleveland Browns OTA's Jun 01, 2023

Show notes

The Cleveland Browns were back outside for OTA's on Wednesday. We saw extensive work from new offensive weapons Elijah Moore and Marquise Goodwin.

Moore brought over from the Jets was used in a variety of ways, out of the backfield, used in motion, all part of the thought process of getting a great athlete out in open space.

Goodwin showed he still has the plus deep speed, as his made two deep catches for would be scores.

Jim Schwartz spoke on his defense and how he wants to be able to attack the pocket and praised his corner backs for being the reason they can do that.

Denzel Ward spoke on how Schwartz's system should fix the communication breakdowns that hurt the Cleveland secondary in 2022.
