The Cleveland Browns will be off to begin training camp on July 22nd so we start our preview series of each positional group. We focus today on the tight end position on this episode,

David Njoku is under valued in league circles but his growth as a player can't be ignored. His blocking has become plus and his production based over a full season basis show he may be top five.

Jordan Akins and Harrison Bryant both can bring value as receivers but need to show enough blocking ability to get those reps. More importantly so for Bryant who enters his first free agency cycle. If the Browns need they can use James Hudson again as a short yardage tight end and even perhaps rookie Dawand Jones.

The future of the room is cloudy and Andrew Berry will have his eyes on possible tight end practice squad players, who could stick long term.

David Njoku will have his best season in 2023 as the Browns will open their passing game.

To see the Browns roster improvement is glaring when looking at the players who were here last year Jun 30, 2023

We are joined by Dawgs By Nature producer Jared Mueller to discuss the overall improvement to the roster. Za"Darius Smith and Ogbonnia Okoronkwo tripled the production of Jadeveon Clowney and Chase Winovich. Alex Wright can go back on the learning path he should've been on. Juan Thornhill coming in as a true free safety? Younger players will have to earn playing time not be forced into action if not ready.

If Deshaun Watson is great the Browns are super bowl contenders, he does not have to be elite. Defending the Browns in certain personnel packages is going to be incredibly difficult.

Jim Schwartz and the defensive line should ease any thought of a slow start to the year. They have players who win one on one's. They don't have to be cute, simple can work early.

The Browns have had expectations before and failed, is this time different? Jun 29, 2023

Brett Kollmann joins the show to discuss how the Browns have gotten the NFL world excited for them before and failed to meet the hype, why should this time be different?

The offense will be slightly shifted to Watson's style but should not detract things the Browns excelled at prior to his arrival. There is a lot riding on this season for the Cleveland staff and front office and how Watson performs will decide the fate of those individuals.

Hiring Jim Schwartz to run the defense was a smart move but adding bodies that will allow this team to play more nickel and dime was vital. The Browns secondary and pass rushing unit's are very deep. Allowing these players to excel at what they do best should see a major improvement overall in the group.

The AFC is going to be a dogfight and the Browns should be in the race but the early part of the schedule should determine how 2023 plays out.

If reports are true, the Browns are interested in the wrong veteran free agent Jun 28, 2023

There are still reports trying to link the Cleveland Browns to veteran wide receiver Deandre Hopkins. While Hopkins is a conversation that is certainly worthy of having there is a veteran free agent available who would fit the Browns much better. Dalvin Cook has already for Kevin Stefanski and within his system and excelled. He has teammates who have now come to Cleveland to join the roster. Cleveland has a need for him and can give him a workload that should allow him to flourish.

We talk on where the Browns skill players rank in the AFC North. They have the best running back in the division and also posses the second best wide receiver and tight end within the north. Pair this with a full season of a now comfortable Deshaun Watson and this unit should be ready to flourish.

The Browns averaged 21.2 points a game last season a full eight points behind super bowl champion Kansas City. They also averaged four and a half points less per game than the Bengals. Closing this scoring gap is essential if this team wants to win the division and go on a lengthy playoff run.

Evaluating Kevin Stefanski ahead of year four Jun 27, 2023

Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski was recently ranked by one news outlet as the 20th overall head coach in the NFL. We discuss if that ranking is just, as it certainly seems to have some recency bias to it's list.

Stefanski started out white hot in Cleveland, winning coach of the year in 2020 after leading his team to their first playoff win in forever. '21 and '22 had some unfortunate breaks that lead to the Browns falling short of the playoffs which had some members of the fan base questioning the coach.

Cleveland has put together a solid roster ahead of this coming season which most feel should lead to this team contending. Coach is going into year four of a five year deal, a successful season should lead to a contract extension in Berea while not making the playoffs could cause the Browns to look to go another way for 2024.

The excuses are over with, Fans expect the Browns to win Jun 26, 2023

The Cleveland Browns has a promising start in '21 fade into the abyss after the Mayfield injury and overall disarray, the '22 season started with issues like playing the second string quarterback for eleven games. Also a defense that was thought highly of turn into a unit that could not get out of it's own way. Andrew Berry provided coaching and roster upgrades everywhere so it's not time for the Browns to show they can be a consistent winner.

Deshaun Watson has had playmakers added as the offense will shift to a style where most feel we will see the return to stardom for Watson. Jerome Ford is the wild card on offense as we just haven't seen enough to know whether he can step into a 150 touch role in year two.

The defensive overhaul looks great on paper but the unit can not be one that starts slow with a slew on difficult teams on the opening of the schedule. Jim Schwartz looking to keep things simple and letting his stars just go out and play has already won over the secondary.

This team with a strong start should contend for the AFC North title and a playoff trip in 2023 and if they don't the future of the head coach will rightfully be questioned as NFL teams don't usually keep a head man who's missed the playoffs for three straight years.

Why The Cleveland Browns can contend in the AFC Jun 22, 2023

The Cleveland Browns have three major factors going for them which should have them contending in 2023.

Deshaun Watson will have no more newness to him in his second year, and is surrounded by quality in all phases of his offense. The receiving group is upgraded with a potential break-out player. David Njoku has grown into a complete NFL tight end. Nick Chubb and the offensive line have always been a group that can dominate a weak defense.

Winning teams build their defense on the premise of playing with the lead. So you build your unit with more defensive lineman and secondary players to combat the oncoming passing game. Cleveland is five deep at edge, upgraded at defensive tackle, and posses a secondary that could have eight to nine guys see legit reps.

Jim Schwartz coming into to coordinate Myles Garrett and a now deep defensive roster feels like it should be getting more affection then it's going.

The Browns need to prove to the NFL world that this time it s real! Jun 21, 2023

The Cleveland Browns have the potential to be very good in 2023, but it's hard for many NFL analysts to believe in them due to their recent past. The 2019 campaign filled with promise, turned into a season that got a general manager and a first year head coach fired. After finally achieving a playoff win in 2020 the '21 season ended with a team in complete disarray. This team seems to good to not compete but until we see it the doubters have their point.

The early of the Browns schedule will most likely tell the fate of the season. Tested early and often this team better be ready out of the gate. Three division games and the 49ers in week six is easily the toughest part of 2023.

There is a lot of talk about potential break out players from Browns writers but the offense and defense need to have more cohesion and play in harmony for these things to happen.

The Browns biggest addition was already on the roster! Jun 19, 2023

Cleveland Browns General Manager Andrew Berry put in tireless work improving the roster this off-season, while also upgrading the coaching staff. However the most important addition to to the franchise in 2023 will be the return to form of quarterback Deshaun Watson. Expectations should be that he returns to the top tier talent he always was.

New defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz should have a fun time putting together dime sets. How he uses his pass rushers will open up the ability to play five or six defensive backs, and his talent is deep at both corner back and safety.

The edge group for the Browns has a well balanced mix, a true superstar in Myles Garrett. A crafty established veteran who's played on successful teams everywhere he's been. A rising player in Okoronklwo who brings talent and a winning pedigree. Then potential in Alex Wright and Isiah Maguire, both players in limited roles should pay some dividends as they wait their time.

Are the Browns ready to contend in the AFC? Jun 16, 2023

Locked On NFL Scouting host Kyle Crabbs joins the show to discuss the changes made in Cleveland and just what the potential of this team can be in 2023. Andrew Berry invested in his investment in Deshaun Watson by adding even more receiving talent to the roster. Watson may never play at the level he did in 2020 but he doesn't have to.

If the Jim Schwartz can get the defense to stop the run they should feast in nickel and dime groupings with an arsenal of pass rushers and very good depth in the secondary. Za'Darius Smith should be a huge help to this group on the field and in the locker room.

The Browns schedule is very difficult early on but if they can navigate through it he should be poised to make a run in the playoffs come January.

Crabbs who also hosts Locked On Dolphins talks how that team is kind of in the same boat as Cleveland as both teams have questions on their quarterbacks that will ultimately decide each teams success this upcoming season.
