BONUS: Brett Yormark's "FIREABLE" Offense to BYU, Texas Tech's Title Odds, Transfer Portal Sorsby Dec 18, 2025

Show notes

Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark's statement that the College Football Playoff (CFP) committee "got the rankings right" immediately after BYU was snubbed at No. 12 caused significant confusion and anger among the Cougars' faithful. However, Yormark's calculated response was a deliberate move to prioritize the long-term stability and political standing of the Big 12 over aggressively lobbying for one team.

Backing the CFP Process

Yormark acknowledged he was "not necessarily pleased" that BYU—which suffered its second loss to Texas Tech in the Big 12 Championship game—was excluded. Despite this, he publicly chose to support the process, asserting that the selection will never be "perfect," and his job is to work with the Management Committee to improve the system, not attack the immediate results. By accepting the outcome, he positioned the Big 12 as a cooperative and mature partner in the CFP's new structure.

Targeting Notre Dame Instead

A major factor was Yormark's pointed criticism of Notre Dame Athletic Director Pete Bevacqua's "egregious" reaction to the Fighting Irish's exclusion. Yormark used his platform to rebuke Bevacqua for "going after" the ACC, arguing that the CFP committee chair had been transparent that head-to-head results would be a factor as teams grew closer. He implied that both Notre Dame and BYU should have understood and accepted the committee's final logic that two losses (especially BYU's two lopsided losses to CFP-bound Texas Tech) were enough to leave them out.

In essence, Yormark traded a fierce defense of BYU for a strategic win: presenting the Big 12 as the measured, stable conference in contrast to the ACC and independent Notre Dame's public outrage.

The video below offers an analysis of Yormark's surprising defense of the CFP committee's decision despite the BYU exclusion. GROSS: Brett Yormark SLAPS BYU, Says Committee GOT IT RIGHT in College Football Playoff Selection

BOMBSHELL: Fox Just ATTACKED ESPN, Disney For Leaving BYU OUT of College Football Playoff, SEC Bias Dec 17, 2025

Show notes

Following the controversial College Football Playoff selection that saw his alma mater, Notre Dame, get snubbed from the 12-team field, FOX Sports analyst and former Irish quarterback Brady Quinn launched a scathing attack on ESPN, accusing the network of controlling the entire playoff process.

The "Disney Creation" Claim

Speaking on the "Stugotz and Company" show, Quinn asserted that the entire selection process is dominated by ESPN and its parent company, Disney. He argued, "This entire process is controlled by ESPN and Disney," suggesting that the CFP operates not as an independent body, but as a "made-for-TV event" designed to benefit the network's key financial partners, namely the SEC and ACC.

Allegations of SEC Bias

Quinn pointed to the final rankings as evidence of this influence. He questioned the logic that allowed a team like Alabama to remain highly ranked despite suffering a decisive loss in its conference championship, while Notre Dame dropped two spots despite not playing. His core argument is that ESPN and its media voices elevate the perceived strength of the SEC, meaning SEC losses and wins are often weighted more favorably by the committee, regardless of objective metrics.

Hypocrisy and Notre Dame's Snub

The FOX analyst also called out ESPN for its hypocrisy regarding Notre Dame's playoff aspirations and subsequent decision to skip a bowl game. Quinn noted that ESPN commentators spent weeks downplaying Notre Dame's schedule and independence, only to criticize the school for "pouting" and declining a bowl invitation after being used as a "pawn" in the selection debate. He further accused the ESPN-owned ACC Network of repeatedly airing Miami's head-to-head win over Notre Dame during selection week to lobby for the Hurricanes.

In short, Quinn used his platform to air a widespread "conspiracy theory," framing the CFP as a rigged system where ESPN's commercial interests ultimately dictate the outcomes.

BOMBSHELL: ACC, Big 12 MERGING Conferences to Beat SEC, Big 10 with Schools Like BYU, Duke is IDEAL? Dec 16, 2025

Show notes

The possibility of a merger between the ACC and the Big 12 is arguably the most significant non-Big Ten/SEC realignment discussion today, born out of existential financial threats. The motivation is simple: create a viable "Power Three" superconference strong enough to compete with the SEC and Big Ten's combined media wealth and political power.

The Mutual Incentives

A combined entity would immediately secure the future of nearly 30 schools. It would merge the ACC’s established blue-blood brands (like Duke, North Carolina, Florida State, Clemson) with the Big 12's newfound geographic depth and entrepreneurial spirit under Commissioner Brett Yormark. This consolidation would create a highly competitive conference in both football and basketball, translating into a much more valuable, coast-to-coast media rights package than either league can currently negotiate alone. For ACC schools, merging could be the legal mechanism to escape the burdensome Grant of Rights and secure a higher annual payout, solving the financial disparity that has plagued the league.

The Contractual Roadblocks

However, the merger faces massive, perhaps insurmountable, hurdles. The ACC is locked into an exclusive media rights deal with ESPN until 2036. The Big 12 has a separate deal with FOX and ESPN that runs until 2031. For a true merger to happen, all media partners—ESPN, FOX, and potentially others—would have to agree to dissolve their current contracts and negotiate a completely new, combined deal. This is a complex, expensive, and time-consuming process that may not be financially appealing to the networks if they feel they already hold "cut-rate deals" with the respective conferences. The logistical challenges of governing a 30+ team conference are also enormous.

Ultimately, while the competitive logic dictates a merger is necessary for survival, the legal and financial reality of ripping up contracts makes collaboration, such as scheduling partnerships, a more likely immediate step.

SOURCES: Kyle Whittingham LEAVING Utah for Michigan Head Coaching Job is WHAT WHITT WANTS! Dec 15, 2025

Show notes

The unexpected timing of Kyle Whittingham's decision to step down as head coach at Utah, coupled with his alleged desire to "not retire," has ignited speculation that the legendary coach has significant interest in the now-vacant Michigan job.

The Integrity and Stability Fit

Michigan’s recent firing of Sherrone Moore created a vacuum that many believe requires an experienced, scandal-free leader. Whittingham, known for his program's integrity and consistent success, fits the mold perfectly. He is seen as a stabilizing force who could immediately restore the program's image amidst ongoing internal investigations. Despite being 66, his defensive-minded, tough-physicality approach aligns well with Michigan's tradition and would allow him to hit the ground running with a veteran roster.

The "Not Retiring" Nuance

Crucially, sources close to Whittingham indicated he is not considering his decision a retirement but rather a step down from Utah to pursue other opportunities. While he is slated to take a special assistant role at Utah, this arrangement could easily be dissolved if a premier job like Michigan's became available. The move from Utah now gives him maximum leverage, as he doesn't have to wait until after the bowl game, and Michigan is looking for a coach quickly before the transfer portal fully opens.

The Blue-Blood Allure

After over two decades building Utah from a Group of Five program to a Power Four perennial contender, Whittingham has achieved everything he can in Salt Lake City. The Michigan job offers him the final, massive challenge of his career: coaching a true blue-blood program in the powerhouse Big Ten and competing for a national championship with a level of recruiting and financial resources that were never available at Utah. This ultimate challenge may be too tempting to pass up.

WOW: Notre Dame Now FORCED to Join Big 12, Big 10 OR SEC in Realignment College Football Playoff Dec 15, 2025

Show notes

The controversial exclusion of Notre Dame from the 12-team College Football Playoff, despite a 10-2 record, has created a new, hostile reality for the Fighting Irish's famous independent scheduling model. There are strong indications that other athletic directors are now threatening to "freeze out" Notre Dame from future schedules, drastically complicating their path to the CFP.

The Preferential Access Backlash

The primary cause for this tension is the revelation of a confidential Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed by the CFP. This document reportedly guarantees Notre Dame a playoff spot if they finish in the Top 12 starting next season. This preferential treatment—an unearned guarantee of access that other independent or Big 12 schools don't possess—has fueled widespread resentment among peer athletic directors. They argue this gives Notre Dame an unfair advantage and makes scheduling them less valuable.

The Risk/Reward Deterrent

For rival Power Four schools, scheduling Notre Dame has always been a calculated risk/reward equation. A win is a major resume boost; a loss is often excusable due to the prestige of the opponent. However, with the new CFP landscape, the risk has escalated:

A loss to ND now carries the weight of boosting a direct, independent competitor whose future CFP spot is seemingly guaranteed regardless of conference affiliation.

A win over ND may no longer provide the same competitive lift if the Irish are perceived as already having a "golden ticket" to the playoff.

The financial incentive (ND's huge brand drives TV ratings and ticket sales) still exists, but the competitive value of the game for a conference champion's resume is diminished. Consequently, Notre Dame will now face the difficult challenge of finding enough quality opponents willing to risk scheduling them in a zero-sum playoff environment.

JOKE: Jacob Rodriguez ROBBED Of Heisman Trophy, CORRUPT Committee, ESPN Targeted Texas Tech, Big 12 Dec 14, 2025

Show notes

The exclusion of Texas Tech linebacker Jacob Rodriguez from the Heisman Trophy ceremony in New York City, despite his historic season, has ignited a firestorm of controversy, highlighting the Heisman's persistent bias against defensive players.

Rodriguez, the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year, was the recipient of both the Butkus Award (nation's top linebacker) and the Bronko Nagurski Trophy (nation's best defensive player). His stat line—which included 117 total tackles, 7 forced fumbles, 4 interceptions, and a defensive touchdown—was arguably superior to that of Manti Te'o's 2012 season, when the Notre Dame linebacker finished as a Heisman runner-up. In fact, Rodriguez ended up finishing 5th overall in the final Heisman voting.

The outrage stems from the fact that Rodriguez, the face of a Big 12 Champion and CFP-bound team, was passed over for three quarterbacks and one running back, cementing the perception that the Heisman has become an "Offensive Player Award." His wife, Emma Rodriguez, publicly called out the Heisman Trust, and former Heisman winner Robert Griffin III branded the snub a "CRIME AGAINST HUMANITY."

Rodriguez's exclusion is a clear signal that the award’s voters prioritize quarterbacks and offensive production over defensive dominance, regardless of how impactful a player is to his team's success. This systemic bias denied one of the most decorated defensive players of the modern era the recognition he earned on the national stage in New York.

BREAKING: Kyle Whittingham OUT as Head Coach at Utah, BYU/Utes Fans React, Morgan Scalley Up Next? Dec 12, 2025

Show notes

Utah Utes head coach Kyle Whittingham has officially announced his decision to step down from the program after the current season, concluding a monumental 21-year tenure leading the Utes. This decision was long-anticipated, as the College Football Hall of Fame certainty had a contractual deadline in December to provide written notice to the university.

Whittingham will coach his final game in the Las Vegas Bowl against Nebraska on December 31st, closing a career that saw him accumulate 177 wins—the most in Utah football history—two Pac-12 championships, and eight 10-win seasons. His decision to return for the 2025 season was largely motivated by a disappointing 5-7 finish in 2024; he openly stated he "couldn't stomach going out" on a sour note. His instincts proved correct, as he guided the Utes to a resilient 10-2 record in his final regular season, cementing his reputation as a legendary program builder.

The transition plan is already firmly in place. Defensive Coordinator Morgan Scalley, a longtime Ute alum and highly respected defensive mind, was formally designated as the head coach-in-waiting in July 2024. Scalley is expected to be formally announced as the successor shortly after the bowl game, ensuring a seamless continuation of the defensive culture Whittingham instilled over his three decades on the Utes staff. Whittingham will step into a two-year university role following his final game.

HOT TAKES: Why BYU Was LEFT OUT, Matt Campbell GONE to Penn State, Sam Leavitt to LSU | Big 12 Squad Dec 11, 2025

Show notes

The Big 12 Conference has been nothing short of a whirlwind over the past week, marked by a major championship, postseason selection drama, and a groundbreaking business announcement that reinforces its "New Look" identity.

1. Championship and CFP Breakthrough

The week started with the Big 12 Championship Game where Texas Tech defeated BYU in a commanding fashion (34-7). This victory propelled the Red Raiders to a 12-1 record, securing the Big 12's automatic bid to the expanded College Football Playoff. The subsequent CFP rankings confirmed Texas Tech as the No. 4 seed, earning them a crucial first-round bye straight to the Orange Bowl Quarterfinal—a massive statement for the restructured league.

2. Bowl and Political Fallout

While the Big 12 celebrated Tech's CFP inclusion and the bowl selections for seven other teams, drama erupted over the bubble. Commissioner Brett Yormark publicly backed the CFP committee's decision, despite BYU's exclusion, and notably criticized Notre Dame's Athletic Director for his "egregious" outrage over the Irish being left out. This positioned the Big 12 as a stable, unified partner in the new CFP ecosystem, contrasting sharply with the ACC's turmoil. Adding to the controversy, the conference levied $500,000 fines on Iowa State and Kansas State for opting to skip bowl games, underscoring the conference's commitment to fulfilling its postseason obligations.

3. NFL Partnership Announcement

Perhaps the most significant long-term news was the conference's announcement of a strategic partnership with the NFL. This collaboration aims to align the two organizations on everything from officiating development and emerging technology to global growth initiatives. This unprecedented move further showcases the Big 12's innovative, business-forward approach under Yormark, establishing a distinct brand identity separate from the traditionalist SEC/Big Ten dynamic.

GROSS: Brett Yormark SLAPS BYU, Says Committee GOT IT RIGHT in College Football Playoff Selection Dec 11, 2025

Show notes

Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark stated the College Football Playoff (CFP) selection committee "got the rankings right," despite the exclusion of his own conference member, BYU. This nuanced position appears to prioritize the stability of the new 12-team CFP system over aggressive advocacy for a single, non-champion team.

Backing the Process, Not the Result

Yormark acknowledged he wasn't "necessarily pleased" that BYU—which suffered a second loss in the Big 12 Championship Game to Texas Tech—finished just outside the 12-team field. However, his public statements focused on accepting the outcome of the formalized process. He asserted that the selection process will never be "perfect," and his job is to work with the management committee to improve the process, not attack the result. This stance signals a commissioner focused on being a cooperative partner in the sport's new governance structure.

Criticizing Notre Dame's Reaction

A major factor in Yormark's statement was his pointed criticism of Notre Dame Athletic Director Pete Bevacqua's "egregious" reaction to the Fighting Irish's exclusion. Yormark rebuked Bevacqua for "going after" the ACC and its commissioner, Jim Phillips. Yormark argued that the CFP committee chair had been clear that head-to-head results would be a factor as teams grew closer in the rankings, implying that both Notre Dame and BYU should have understood and accepted the committee's final logic. By supporting the committee's decision and condemning Notre Dame's public outrage, Yormark positioned himself as a measured and responsible leader in contrast to his peer.

BONUS: Texas Tech Will BLOW OUT Oregon, BYU Was SCAMMED, Big 12 Basketball is ELITE, Brett Yormark? Dec 11, 2025

Show notes

Texas Tech has successfully forged its path to the expanded 12-team College Football Playoff, demonstrating a clear roadmap for Big 12 contenders. Their strategy revolved around two core objectives, which they achieved:

1. Winning the Big 12 Conference Title (The Automatic Bid)

Under the new CFP format, the most guaranteed path is to secure one of the five automatic bids reserved for the highest-ranked conference champions. For Texas Tech, this meant dominating the competitive, new-look Big 12. They clinched the Big 12 title with a decisive victory over BYU, which propelled their case significantly. This win immediately locked them into the 12-team field.

2. Earning a First-Round Bye (Top-Four Seeding)

The highest-ranked four conference champions receive a crucial first-round bye, advancing directly to the quarterfinals (the New Year's Six bowls). Texas Tech, by finishing the season with an impressive 12-1 record and a conference championship, secured the No. 4 seed in the final CFP rankings.

This was critical as it earned them a coveted first-round bye, meaning they bypass the opening round of home games. Their reward is a spot in the Capital One Orange Bowl Quarterfinal on New Year's Day, where they await the winner of the No. 5 vs. No. 12 first-round matchup (Oregon vs. James Madison).

In essence, Texas Tech's path was one of self-determination: Win the league, and the playoff will follow. Their success was built on a historic defensive performance that helped them rewrite the program record books, proving that consistent, balanced dominance is the key to CFP access in the new era.
