Wisconsin Badgers football QB target Cole LaCrue joins the show to talk about his game and his recruitment and why he loved Madison ! Sep 13, 2022
    Show notes

Wisconsin Badgers 2023 QB football target Cole LaCrue joins the show. The dual-threat quarterback from Colorado talks about his visit to Madison, why the gameday experience was so amazing and blew away his expectations and his thoughts on watching Graham Mertz play. While Wisconsin didn't get the win, LaCrue still loved his time in Madison and was able to spend time with offensive coordinator Bobby Engram.

We dive into LaCrue's game and walk through some of his recent actions. We discuss his strengths as a dual-threat quarterback and how he has grown as a player during his playing time. We play a little ranking game, and talk about what his player rankings would be on NCAA EA sports, if and when he's in the game. We also spend some time discussing his ability to keep his eyes downfield while moving in the pocket.

Finally we talk about his recruitment, the timeline for his decision and upcoming visits.

Wisconsin Badgers football head coach Paul Chryst has some interesting press conference comments, we discuss how hot his seat should be. Sep 12, 2022
    Show notes

Wisconsin Badgers football head coach Paul Chryst has some head-scratching comments during his post-game press conference following the ugly loss to Washington State. We talk about his comments on the 4th down play as well as his comments about Graham Mertz on today's Locked On Badgers. Chryst was upset about his 4th down decision to go for it near mid-field, I would argue it was the right call and Chryst is learning the wrong lessons from what happened on that play. I'm worried he's going to get even more conservative.

Chryst also had some odd comments regarding Graham Mertz pushing the ball downfield, and how perhaps he shouldn't have quite as much. I thought the downfield passing game was maybe the best part of the inconsistent Badgers attack and its odd that Chryst would take that opportunity in the press conference to question his QBs decision making.

We also discuss the Badgers remaining games and what it would take for this to be considered a successful season. Is winning the Big Ten West enough ? Or do we need to see substantial offensive improvement? Is there any scenario where Paul Chryst is on the hot seat this season ?

Wisconsin Badgers football loses in frustrating fashion to Washington State Cougars, Mertz is good. Sep 11, 2022
    Show notes

The Wisconsin Badgers football team dropped a their game against Washington State in frustrating fashion as turnovers, missed kicks, penalties and a odd game plan resulted in a lackluster performance.

We start with the mistakes of which their were plenty. Penalties killed Wisconsin as multiple plays were pulled back by Badgers mistakes - several big runs were taken off the board this way. The game plan was far too vanilla, as the Badgers went away from Graham Mertz despite the QB playing pretty well.

On the bright side Graham Mertz was pretty good, we talk about why Paul Chryst was so reluctant to put the ball game into his hands. Finally we discuss the special teams issues and who is really calling the plays for Wisconsin.

We start with what to expect from the game and some score predications, will Washington State be able to throw on Wisconsin or will this be a big game for Nick Herbig and the Badgers pass rush. We talk about why this is a big game for the Badgers offensive line which will need to impose their will.

Finally we discuss QB recruiting and Justin talks about Ryan Brown and Cole Lacrue including which player he likes more and how many QBs do we think the Badgers will take this cycle.

Wisconsin Badgers football takes on the Washington State Cougars in Madison, what does Cam Ward do ? Sep 08, 2022
    Show notes

The Wisconsin Badgers football team plays host to the Washington State Cougars as week 2 of the college football season is upon us. We talk about the Cougars transfer QB and potential future NFL draft pick Cam Ward and what kind of challenges he will pose to Jim Leonard and this revamped secondary. We break down Ward's game and look at some areas where quarterbacks like him have caused the Badgers issues - but we also talk about some habits from his FCS days that may haunt him in Madison. The pieces around Ward are ok with the Cougars offensive line having some struggles but former Badgers running back Nakia Watson ran well for the Cougars in week one and will have some motivation to perform well in his return trip to Madison.

We talk about the Cougars defense and why this game will be a nice test for the Badgers offensive line, specifically the two tackles. We also break down the updated depth chart, and talk about how the injurie to Hunter Wholer will put communication at a premium in the defensive secondary. Finally we discuss the betting lines on the game and why I wouldn't touch the over/under but I do think Wisconsin is a good bet to cover the spread.

Wisconsin Badgers football QB recruiting target Ryan Browne joins the show to talk about his trip to Madison, his game and his recruitment! Sep 07, 2022
    Show notes

2023 quarterback recruit Ryan Browne joins the show for a detailed discussion into his game, his recruitment and where things might stand with the Wisconsin Badgers football team. We discuss the offense that new OC Bobby Engram is working to put into place and how Ryan thinks he might be able to fit into that offense. We talk about his trip, and some of what he was able to see and why he thought the atmosphere was so electric - especially considering the opponent and the blow out.

Next we take a deep dive into Ryan's game, including breaking down some clips from his recent game action. Ryan is able to point out coverages and show how he was able to exploit them. We also talk about an underrated aspect to Ryan's game -- his mobility -- he is definitely a player that can get to the outside of the pocket and make some plays in space. We talk about his recruitment and if he carries a chip on his shoulder from the lack of offers. Ryan grades himself on arm strength, accuracy, speed and awareness (EA sports NCAA style).

Finally we talk about his unique journey from Florida state title, to prep school in New York; how did he end up at Milford academy ?

Wisconsin Badgers football recruiting round up from Week 1 against Illinois state, plus Paul Chryst talks Washington State. Sep 06, 2022
    Show notes

The Wisconsin Badgers football team hosted a number of recruits for the season opener with four quarterbacks and several blue-chip 2024 prospects. We quickly talk about the quarterbacks that were in Madison from out of state prospects Parker Leise and Ryan Browne to in-state kids Jerry Kaminsky and Jackson Flottmeyer. I talk about why all of these prospects have something to offer and how underrate they are in certain aspects. I talk about why Jackson Flottmeyer reminds me a little bit of Joel Stave in a good way and how the Badgers will need to make some tough choices with regards to which quarterbacks they are chasing and prioritizing. We discuss the possibility of a two quarterback class and why that might make some sense with the prospects on the board.

Next we talk about a group of very talented 2024 prospects that made their way to Madison headlined by in-state blue chip running back Corey Smith. I talk about Corey's game and the other players in his recruitment, we discuss just how talented he is and why he's such an elite running back. There was also an intriguing group of tight ends in Madison led by Carter Nelson a 4* TE out of Nebraska - he's an elite athlete with tremendous upside.

Finally on Locked On Badgers we break down Paul Chryst's press conference and what he had to say about injuries, the number two quarterback spot and Washington State. I agree with Chryst's comments and high praise for the ILB duo from Week 1.

Wisconsin Badgers football what we liked and didn't like from Week 1 victory over Illinois State! Sep 05, 2022
    Show notes

The Badgers won big 38-0, behind a strong game from Braelon Allen, Graham Mertz and Nick Herbig. We start the show with three things we liked and three things we didn't like. Badger fans have to be thrilled with Graham Mertz as the often maligned QB went 14-16 with no turnovers. We talk about the safety depth and why even with a tough loss to Hunter Wholer the new found depth at that position is a big deal. We also talk about some things we don't like including a curious and frustrating decision by Paul Chryst.

Next on Locked on Badgers we grade all of the positions. I break down why I think QBs and LBs deserve high marks - Nick Herbig in particular led a big-time performance by the LBs.

I talk about some the positions that didn't live up to their pre-season hype including a less than optimal job by some of the new cornerback transfers - particularly Cedrick Dort, we also discuss how well --- or not --- the new look offensive line played.

Wisconsin Badgers football versus Illinois State therapy session, Graham Mertz looked great! Sep 04, 2022
    Show notes

Graham Mertz looks really good as the Wisconsin Badgers pummel Illinois State 38-0 in week one. The biggest question mark all season has been Graham Mertz and the passing game, and although he wasn't really needed - he still looked really good with a 14-16 performance with ZERO turnovers. Most importantly Mertz was in control and didn't force anything.

We also talk about the dominating performance on the ground from Braelon Allen and why Badgers fans have been so spoiled over the years with guys like Allen, Taylor, White, Ball, and Gordon.

We talk about the defense and just how good Herbig is - barring injury this is almost certainly his last season in Madison, he's just too good for college football at this point.

From a perspective of things that worry us - the secondary didn't look great. We talk about the absence of Alexander Smith and if his return could make the difference for a secondary that struggled in coverage against Illinois State.
