The Successful Mind Podcast – Episode 338 – My Three Friends Feb 22, 2021
    Show notes

One of the most important things we could learn in life is how to pick good friends.

Most people, when they’re raised as children, don’t ever get a solid understanding of how to evaluate the relationships we take on in life. Most of us don’t know how to evaluate the character of people in our life, or what role they’re meant to play. This causes us to make errors in bringing certain people into our life.

For us to move forward, we need other people. There’s no such thing as a “self-made man” or “self-made woman.” That’s total BS. Nobody is self-made. We all need relationships. We need relationships with people who are better than us, who know more than us.

We’re also going to have relationships with people who don’t know as much as we do, and we’re going to help them. We’ll have intimate relationships, friendships, and relationships with people we don’t even know as we go through life.

If we don’t know how to discern the basic character of why people come into our life, not only can we set ourselves up for a big fall, but there could also be hurt feelings on the opposite side of this.

In today’s episode, I’m drawing on the wisdom of Reverend TD Jakes , a well-known minister out of Houston, Texas. I’ve been listening to him for a long time. Today’s episode is based on one of his 30-minute Sunday sermons that really stuck with me.

We need to understand that there are 3 types of important people who will come into our life: confidants, constituents, and comrades. Understanding the foundation of each relationship will help us know how to survive as an adult. Very often, we think a relationship is something that it’s actually not. And that’s where we set ourselves up for disappointment and hurt feelings.

By understanding these 3 types of people, knowing your friends, and keeping them in the right context of what relationships are supposed to look like in your life—you’ll save yourself a lot of pain. You’ll also have big wins in the future.

The Successful Mind Podcast – Episode 337 – Movers & Shakers – Garry McIntosh – Operation Underground Railroad Feb 18, 2021
    Show notes

Today’s episode may be disturbing for some listeners. My guest is Garry McIntosh from Operation Underground Railroad (OUR). We discuss a dark topic that most people want to avoid thinking about—the horrors of sex trafficking in the United States and around the world. Human trafficking is the fastest growing criminal enterprise in the history of the world, surpassing the gun trade and closing in on the drug trade.

Operation Underground Railroad exists to rescue and rehabilitate children from sex trafficking. Garry and I discuss why this criminal behavior is so prevalent, and why it’s growing so quickly. As someone who is fairly new to this topic, I was surprised by these horrible statistics:

      • An estimated 30 to 40 million people are in slavery around the world right now; a quarter of these are children
      • 2 million of those children are sold for sex; the others are sold for forced labor, organ harvesting, and child sacrifice
      • The US has the highest demand for child pornography out of any other country in the world
      • 85% of trafficking cases start online with fake relationships or fake job opportunities
      • Traffickers use encrypted messaging apps to prey on vulnerable teens and people who don’t understand they’re being manipulated or coerced.

OUR partners with law enforcement, sets up sting operations, and facilitates the arrest of individuals who are harming children, trafficking them, and exploiting them. Once the children are liberated, they’re put into Aftercare, where they begin their journey of healing from the trauma and darkness of sex trafficking. How OUR is able to rescue and rehabilitate survivors of sex trafficking is nothing short of amazing.

The Successful Mind Podcast – Episode 336 – Everything is Created as a Whole Feb 16, 2021
    Show notes

The Law of Polarity says everything in the universe is created as a “whole.” This means everything has an opposite, and it’s equal and opposite.

If you have a problem in your life, then there must be a solution right here and now. If you have a desire, then the way to fulfill that desire is already here.

Our goal should be to become more aware of this truth each day, and realize our oneness with God or the universe. This allows us to tap into our infinite human potential, which goes from being “potential” to power.

    In this episode you’ll learn:

      • There’s no other time in the universe than right now
      • Everything is already here—and it’s here now
      • Your “reality” is much more than whatever you’re experiencing in this moment
      • Money is abundant—whether you have an abundance of wealth, or an abundance of poverty or debt
      • We’re always manifesting our heart’s desire —even if that desire is unconscious

The more you become aware that everything is created as a whole, the faster your life will change, the more money you’ll make, the more limitless your ideas will become, and the more people you’ll help, including yourself.

The Successful Mind Podcast – Episode 335 – Inside The Mind: Tiger Woods Feb 15, 2021
    Show notes

Tiger Woods is best known for his massively successful golf career, and perhaps equally known for the personal problems following the death of his father. You may remember the controversy that surrounded Tiger’s personal life . As a celebrity athlete, he was constantly put under a microscope, starting at a young age. He was treated like a “god,” and was seen as a savior of the sport of golf . When you’re placed on that high of a pedestal, there’s only one way to go from there—and that’s down.

Recently HBO came out with a fascinating documentary on Tiger Woods that reveals how he dealt with the pressure of being in the spotlight. It sheds light on how Tiger’s dad controlled everything in his early life, and how this impacted his behavior later in life. When you have a parent who’s domineering, overbearing, and even narcissistic, your entire experience in life is based on whether or not you have your parent’s approval and permission to feel anything.

In this new show, BT and I discuss the complicated life of Tiger Woods and what it teaches us about the psychology of getting great at something. It’s not just about golf—it’s about how Tiger showed up in his world, and how his experience was based on the idea of him being “the best.”

Whether you admire him or not, he’s an interesting person to study when it comes to being the best at something you set your mind to. It teaches us that “winning solves everything”… and at the same time, we can’t let things we don’t understand destroy us. We need to be able to ask for help when we need it.

Even if you’re not a sports fan or a Tiger Woods fan, I highly recommend you check out the documentary.

    The Successful Mind Podcast – Episode 334 – Movers & Shakers – Hillary Walsh – Your Sh*t Matters Feb 11, 2021
    Show notes

Hillary Walsh is an award-winning, nationally-renowned immigration attorney. She’s a published author and a law professor at one of the top law schools in the nation, and she’s a wildly successful entrepreneur. Her mission is to help others give meaning to their painful past, so they can start living the life they couldn’t even imagine before.

In this Movers & Shakers episode, Hillary shares her story of childhood abuse and trauma, and how she uses her past to help immigrants who are facing similar abuse, but in different formats. Abuse tends to be generational, and it’s ingrained into a family cycle. Growing up in rural Kansas, Hillary was severely beaten and put in foster care. Her rock-bottom moment came when she engaged with the legal system for the first time… where she learned that often, “The client has no voice.”

Many of her immigration clients are abused by their U.S. citizen spouse, or even by their kids, who use their undocumented, illegal status as leverage over their parents. She’s seen kids threatening to call ICE on their parents, and manipulating them to get what they want. Hillary uses these difficult situations to have hard conversations that result in positive changes. This is how she helps her clients give meaning to their pain.

Hillary believes there’s a purpose for everything we’ve been through. By being vulnerable and sharing our “rock-bottom moments,” we can serve other people.

The Successful Mind Podcast – Inside Episode 333 – The Psychology of Sales Feb 09, 2021
    Show notes

Many entrepreneurs and business owners avoid selling because they don’t want to be associated with “sleazy salespeople” or unethical selling tactics. We all want to avoid being a bad salesperson.

But can you grow a business without selling?

Today, BT and I go inside Episode 333 – The Psychology of Sales — and we delve into why so many people are averse to selling. Most of us didn’t hear positive messages about salespeople while we were growing up… and we’ve all had bad experiences with salespeople at some point. This shapes a person’s ability to sell later in life.

If you’re not making sales, you’re not making money and you have no business. It’s one thing to know how to have sales calls; it’s quite another to actually do them on a regular basis. Most entrepreneurs either avoid making sales … or they bring nervous energy to their sales calls and sabotage their ability to sell.

If you’re an entrepreneur who is struggling with sales, don’t miss today’s episode!

    We explore:

      • How the fear of rejection stops people from selling
      • Why you should get past your need for acceptance, so that hearing a “no” doesn’t psychologically screw with your head
      • How to tame nervous, misdirected energy on a sales call—and instead show up cool, calm, and direct, while understanding this conversation is a tool; it has a purpose
      • Why “dealing with objections” and “building rapport during sales calls” can be a trap
      • Why you should avoid “telling” people anything in a sales call—and what to do instead
      • The mindset to adopt if you want to skyrocket your sales
      • How to be mindful about the energy you’re bringing to each sales call. Train your mind to do the right things during a call—and put your success all on you.

I also share a terrible experience I had with a car salesman that I’ll never forget! (It was when I was young and had just gotten out of the army.) Give the episode a listen and find out what happened!

No matter what happens in your business, there’s always an opportunity to sell. No matter what you’re selling, you’re having an impact on another human being. This is an amazing idea, and you can train your mind to see it that way.

The Successful Mind Podcast – Episode 333 – The Psychology of Sales Feb 08, 2021
    Show notes

When you’re having a sales call with someone, it’s not a normal conversation. It’s a special conversation that requires you to conduct yourself as an authority, so that you can direct the other person’s (i.e., the prospect’s) thinking.

The psychology of selling is about understanding what’s actually going on with the other person, and what’s going on in yourself during the call. Having done sales training for 20 years, I’ve taught thousands of entrepreneurs and business people about the psychology of sales . I see so many people making common mistakes during sales calls that disrupt their ability to help the other person, let alone sell. In this episode, I share the most important concepts you can use to speed up your skill of selling.

If more entrepreneurs knew these ideas upfront when they first started learning how to sell, it would greatly speed up their skill set much quicker.

If you struggle with sales, once you understand this information, it will straighten out your sales quite a bit and allow you to get to mastery much faster.

    In this episode you’ll learn:

      • Why seeing yourself as an “authority” is a must during a sales call—and how to avoid bringing any “weird energy” to the call
      • The #1 most important question to answer during a sales call (and why interjecting your thoughts about it can disrupt your ability to sell!)
      • How to use questions in the correct way when in a sales conversation (because we’re all programmed to answer questions!)
      • The top mistake amateur salespeople make during a call (hint: it has to do with distracting the potential prospect!)
      • What to do before a sales call to make sure you show up grounded and ready to help the other person
      • Why “awkward silences” during a sales call can be powerful, if used correctly
      • How to conduct yourself during a sales conversation so that the other person sets you apart in their mind as someone rare whom they trust

Every single thing you say and do on a sales call causes a psychological and physical reaction to occur in the person you’re presenting to—and I mean everything you do. Whether you’re on Zoom, in person, or on a phone call, learn how to master yourself during these calls, so you can start strengthening your sales conversations today!

The Successful Mind Podcast – Episode 332 – Raymond Holliwell & The Law of Forgiveness Feb 04, 2021
    Show notes

Today, I’m going to go through Law of Forgiveness based on Raymond Holliwell’s book, Working With The Law. The link between gratitude and forgiveness makes a tremendous amount of sense and today, and you’re going to see how this applies to your life.

In this episode, learn how forgiveness can:

      • Allow flow and growth to take place
      • Heal the physical body
      • Liberate sins and mistakes
      • Release thoughts of fear and guilt
      • Lift you from debt to abundance
      • And so much more …

Understanding and living based on the Law of Forgiveness is life-changing and forges a successful mindset that can carry you through even the most difficult times in your life. Forgiveness will bring forth the bigness of character life calls for, and through forgiveness lessons of life are learned. This poem sums it up perfectly…

    Forgive

That slight misdeed of yesterday, why should it mar today?
    The thing he said, the thing you did, have long since passed away;

For yesterday was but a trial; today you will succeed,
And from mistakes of yesterday will come some noble deed.

    Forgive yourself for thoughtlessness, do not condemn the past;
    For it is gone with its mistakes; their mem’ry cannot last;

Forget the failures and misdeeds, from such experience rise,
Why should you let your head be bowed, Lift up your heart and eyes!

The Successful Mind Podcast – Inside Episode 331 – I Can’t Change the World But I Can Change Myself Feb 02, 2021
    Show notes

Today, David & BT go inside Episode 331 – I Can’t Change The World But I Can Change Myself. David dives deeper into the power of choice, how it affected his growth early on, and how attaining significant, lasting change is easier than you might think. He also talks about our current issues, why and avoiding judgement with the “I told you so” rhetoric is so important, and how being around toxic people will stunt your personal growth.

Through understanding and applying the Law of Polarity, a person is able to make huge changes in their current situation. For David, all those years ago, it boiled down to the simplest of things – changing his attitude. In doing so more opportunities presented themselves than ever before, allowing him to eventually start his own business and help others do the same. Had he not done that, and chose to do the internal work to break away from the machine, he admits he wouldn’t be here today. You have to change your thinking in order to get there, period.

    Show notes

Many people have an idea in their mind about the world changing to fit whatever narrative they have for themselves and how they believe the world should operate. I’ve listened to people present questions or statements and say that if this person would only do this or if that person would only do that the world would get better. Always looking outside oneself for change is not accurate thinking. Change is an inside job, and to make any sort of difference in the world it first has to start from within,

What I’ve begun to understand, now more than ever, is the sense of frustration facing our world today. If we could wave a magic wand and bring this back to a more calm place I’m sure most of us would not hesitate. That said, there is no Fairy Godmother waiting to save the day. This isn’t a fairy tale, this is real life.

That being said, even though most people aren’t able to exact huge changes in how the world thinks, we are able to make a difference in the way WE think. We can change ourselves and the way we experience the world, which I believe is something that’s very much overlooked in so many cases. But how?

After working with thousands upon thousands of people for the last several decades, mostly those who are dissatisfied with their current results, I have come to maintain that with the simple shift of seeing things differently all that you desire can be yours. In the beginning, there is a common starting point where most believe that change must come from those around you, outside of yourself. What most people don’t realize, and I can understand this quite well because there was a time in my life when I was in the same boat, is that each of us has the ability to change our own world by utilizing the greatest power of all. The ability to choose.
